Title: 30-130 day at RAF Marham 24th March
Post by: mechell on December 28, 2012, 10:24:25 am
Thanks as always to RAF Marham, I’m very pleased to confirm the MLR's 30-130 event will be held on Sunday 24th March 2013 all-marque’ day.

“30-130” is the best opportunity for you to understand the REAL performance of your Evo! This isn't a standing start, but a rolling start from below 30mph after which you have approx 1.5miles of straight ultra smooth tarmac to pass 130mph - or carry on for a top speed run.

There's no running order so you can run when you want (subject to the queue - which we get through as quickly as possible!) The average number of timed runs is approx 5 or 6, but we've seen some drivers do 15+ runs.  You’re welcome to do a run without a VBox (or use your own if you have one) to bypass the queue and go straight out, but only data from the MLR's calibrated VBoxes being used on the day will be used in the results.

The current 30-130 record is still held by RossW in his Evo6 in a time of 5.84s.

Please read ALL the following information carefully, paying particular attention to the Registration & Security Clearance requirements below;

NEW ONLINE REGISTRATION & SECURITY CLEARANCE

ALL DRIVERS & SPECTATORS MUST HAVE SECURITY CLEARANCE BEFORE BEING ALLOWED ON SITE.

To ensure we don’t have a reoccurrence of the 2012 entry problems, there will be a new online form for 2013 that all drivers must complete for themselves and their passengers (maximum of 4 passengers per driver).

Entries will be available via the MLR (Tel: 08451 25 26 23) and http://www.lancerregister.com/store_category.php?id=13   MLR Shop from Monday 7th January 2013

Online registration forms will also be available from 7th January, and all forms need to be completed by 28th February 2013

Everyone - without exception - needs to complete a Registration Form details regardless of whether you have been security cleared for previous events, have clearance to work on this station, or are serving RAF personnel etc.   If you miss the deadline and do not register you will not be able to attend as you will not receive security clearance.

30-130 EVENT:

EVENT TIMETABLE:

HOW TO BOOK:

Places can be booked from 7th January 2013 via the MLR Shop, or by calling Mechell direct on 08451 25 26 23
Note:  Bookings close on 28th February 2013

ADDITIONAL INFO:

Drivers:
All drivers must have full UK driving licence

Photo ID:
ALL drivers and passengers must bring photographic ID on the day to be allowed into the venue (no photographic ID = no entry)

Fire Extinguishers:
ALL cars must have a fire extinguisher fitted - preferably in an easy to reach place, eg: in front of the passenger seat. This will be checked on the day and any cars without extinguishers will not be allowed to run

Corner Weights:
We will have our corner weights at the event as usual, so if you want to corner weigh your car you can do so anytime during the day. This will be managed the service and direct you onto the ramps and the scales. Readings will be recorded and can be taken with and without the driver

Helmets:
Helmets must be worn by all occupants - drivers and front seat passengers

Noise Limit:
Noise from motorsport has now become an issue for RAF Marham. Although it’s understood that running a single car at 30-130 is not the same as running numerous cars together at a trackday, noise monitoring will take place on the day if required but they will be as lenient as possible. We are not allowed unsilenced exhaust systems. The static noise limit is 105dBA (measured at ½ metre, 45 deg, ¾ revs)

Rear Spoilers:
For reasons of safety, cars must retain their rear spoilers and blade, unless fitted with a carbon bootlid or similar which does not allow for a rear spoiler

Vortex Generators and Trim:
Debris of ANY type on the runway is the single biggest concern at RAF Marham. Aftermarket VGs and other trim have a tendency to come off when travelling at over 130mph, so all VGs will need to be taped front and back to ensure they stay on the car. If it’s not done when you come to collect your VBox we will do it for you!

Towing Eyes:
It is your responsibility to have a towing eye or strap fitted and/or accessible on the day in case you need to be recovered. The RAF recovery crew are experienced and will treat your car like their own, but they have to be able to return your car to the paddock, so please make their life as easy as possible whilst also removing the risk of damage to your car

Passengers:
Only front seat passengers are allowed and must be 16 years old or over. There is a small charge of £10 for passengers on the day

Refreshments:
Food & drink (burgers, bacon rolls, coffee etc) will be managed by the RAF who will be based in the ’30-130 paddock’

Litter:
It is ABSOLUTELY IMPERATIVE that no litter or cigarette ends are dropped anywhere other than a bin. Failure to observe this very simple rule seriously jeopardises us being invited back, so please use the bins provided (or your pockets!).  Anyone seen dropping litter will be escorted offsite

Spectators:
All spectators must come with drivers already booked in – a maximum of 4 per vehicle – and have been registered by the driver they are attending with on the day.  All spectators must also bring photographic ID with them on the day or they won’t be allowed in

Volunteers:
We need a handful of people to help with putting the V-Boxes in the cars and changing over memory cards throughout the day, so please PM me or Mechell if you’re interested in helping and include your email address

Video Cameras:
All video cameras must be securely mounted internally via suction mount or bolted to a rollcage. No hand held cameras are allowed. All footage must be for personal use only – eg: not uploaded to YouTube, forums etc

Photography:
Due to the extremely sensitive nature of the venue, cameras are only permitted for personal use, eg: photos cannot be posted on forum or websites. No professional or commercial photography is allowed

Marshals & Emergency Cover:
The event will be fully marshalled and include Medical and Fire Cover

Rides:
30-130 wouldn’t happen without the help of the RAF volunteers who marshal and support the event– all of whom are petrolheads and would sell their sister (or brother) for the chance to own the cars attending the day. If you’re happy to give them a ride we will give you a sticker for your windscreen so the guys know they can jump in with you sometime during the day. Thanks in advance from me - it's good to be able to give something back

Reserves:
If places sell out before the deadline a reserve list will be started (we will need your name, email and phone details) and any places that become available offered to reserves in order

Cancellations:
Please tell Mechell or Darin if you cannot attend for any reason. Please DO NOT post on the Forum offering your place to someone else as we need to manage the entry list for security purposes and they won’t have registered. Please be aware of the MLR's Cancellation Policy (http://"http://www.lancerregister.com/showthread.php?t=138189")

Sunday 24th March– All Marque 30-130 Day
If for any reason you can’t attend the MLR 30-130 day on Saturday, we will be running another for all other marques on Sunday which you’d be welcome to book. Same details and costs apply

Last but not least:
A huge thankyou to George, his staff and the RAF Marham Station Commander who continue to make this event possible.

So, lets get down to business. What are everyone's targets, hopes, aspirations for the day in terms of 30-130 times and top speed.

Mine is a 30-130 in 17 seconds or thereabouts and a top speed of over 150mph.

Although I'd be happier if I got better times than that, I'd be happy with that time and speed.

I havnt a clue but I will be honest before you asked the question I did have 30-130 16secs and 160mph in mind. I have never timed any figures before or done anything like this. Need to practice my gears!

Cheers, Stevie.  :happy2:

For vmax its between the R8 v10TT, the 997 turbo, 996 turbo and the brabus if its dry. If its wet the two stage 3 TTRS will be up there also, as will be 200mph capable.

for 30-130 times, too close to call. But id say between the force induction r8's, porkas, stage 3 ttrs and the evo's.

Im not including the trailer queen jap cars in this guess.

The R8 V10TT should get a good top speed, but may be limited by it's RPM limit. I know Steve Jr is doing a lot to his 997 Turbo and it should be over 900whp and with a raised limiter should easily be over 200mph. Last year it was 193mph in the soaking wet with 650bhp.

Dunno about the 30-130 but out of the VAG stable the R8 V10TT and Steve Jr's car should have a good tussle. It will be all about grip as well as power.

if its wet grip will be an issue, the 996 turbo was spinning up in 2nd and 3rd!

I need to remove some weight and add some power

What most people don't realise is that the airstrip is uphill all the way to the end with a slight reduction in the incline half way along. This alone can add a good second over running a 30-130 on the flat.

Engines built John but still on Loba's for now, we can rev to 8k but only got air flow to 7k with these tiny vnt's so no 900whp yet, that'll be Mid year before Inters
I'm really interested to see how Tims RS engines perform he certainly knows his stuff, I wish I had some of the equipment he has (and knowledge to use it) we just have to go trial and error but seem to do ok anyway
I'd guess well be around late 8's early 9's 30-130 & 200ish by 1.2 miles problem is as everyone knows the grip is what it's down to
If we can get cracking back on with the Golf RS again that should be dam quick 30-130 with the specs we've got planned

16.6 secs to beat for the Stage 2+ title boys...

That is what I remembered you doing Ben :happy2:

Now do I stay at stage 2+ for this or not?

I think you should..  Someone should take that time quite easily considering it was done on a stock car with basic S2+ mods and with the gash OEM cooler too..

No WMI though - that would be cheating..

Do the Loba John. We all want to see the result from loba LO4xx vs APR stage 3 on a Golf R.

But wouldn't it be better to try and match a stage 3 Golf R using a stage 2+ R with WMI?

Not a chance imo.  Even if you gained 50hp from the meth your still way down on power with the KO4.  Loba all the way, all the threads and trash talking about these two turbos could be ended in a single day.  That is until the excuse thread is started lol

I'm with Sy on this one John - There is no way you will be competing with APR's Golf with the stock K04. That is a 118mph car on the strip (IIRC) which is someway of what you were running even before your added bits..

Either get the Loba done - which i assume won't be easy given how much time there is left. Or go Stage 2+ and compare with the other boys (including myself). APR's Golf is at another level now since going BT IMO.

Regards the trash talk (Loba vs APR) - I doubt that will ever get sorted to be honest (bit like the the APR vs Revo) as who knows what fuel/set up, secret mods one might add to save face..

This is why I cannot hold much stall by it.

I'll be running a stock map on 95 ron if APR are looking in!  :innocent:

This looks like a good spot for an update on my Golf R.  :happy2:

Took the gear box off yesterday and found a trashed flywheel to go along with my slipping clutches.  The dual mass portion of the flywheel has pretty much disintegrated.  Got the box off, the mechatronics unit out and will ship it off for some prototype DSG software to match the prototype uprated DSG clutches that are going in.

Once that is back together sometime next week, I'll put it on the dyno to see what these new fueling mods netted.

The scenario prior to these new fueling mods and before the transmission got so bad it wouldn't really do much at WOT, was an 11.6 at my last trip to Santa Pod and a 100-200kmh time of 9.1.

After the new fueling mods and with a very unhappy DSG I was able to achieve a 100-200kmh time of 8.6.

So, I think I've got around another 50bhp and with the DSG finally modded I'll have 300 more rpm's of powerband.

So yeah, bring it, lads!

Couple of questions:

1.What kind of times should i be "Aiming" for, Stage2+ APR FWD (Will have rear interior stripped out)
2. Where and how have people got fire extinguishers mounted

The record was set by Sunglasses Ron a few years ago at 16.6 seconds in a DSG fwd Edition 30. :happy2:

I mounted mine on the front of the passenger seat. Alternatively you could mount it to the passenger side of the gearbox console. Alternatively a lot of Velcro to the mounting and stick it to the floor.

You can pretty much just lob the fire extinguisher in the glovebox. Alternatively, just put it in the pocket behind the front seat/s - worked fine for me..

Definitely no secrets mate.. Just a regular 3dr DSG Ed30 with basic Stage 2+ mods (and possibly a bottle of octane booster for good measure that most probably did nowt). If anything, you stand a very good chance of beating that time pal as my car still had the OEM cooler and over that distance it definitely wouldn't of helped.. Never made anything special when strapped to a RR either when compared with others..

If you want me to do a run for you I would happily oblige (bit of reminiscing and all that)  :signLOL:

The cooler doesn't really effect the car too much over a 1/4 mile run and most part of the 30-130mph run at this time of the year. But when you are well over 100mph and carrying on for a top speed run you can definitely tell it would fair a lot better with a uprated FMIC.

Has yours been on the rollers at all with the software you are running?

I have just added a friend (and all his details) as a passenger in my car to my previous details on MLR. How do I know if this will be confirmed?

Does anyone know these guys below (MLR usernames - so might not be the same as on this forum).  We still need them to complete their registration forms by end of tomorrow or they won't get into Marham!

Hi Darin,

My username on MLR is Vtec Abuser and my friends name is Simon Newborn. I have 2 cars registered under that user name (me - 135i and my dad's - C63 AMG) and my friend is registered under my car (Ben).

Thanks for sorting this and I hope today goes as well as it can.

Hi,

Earlier today I received the regrettable news that the RAF have had to postpone the forthcoming 30-130 weekend due to operational requirements.  Here is a brief statement from Sgt George Denman at RAF Marham:

"Darin,  I'm sorry to advise that the MLR 30-130 event planned for the 23rd/24th March will need to be moved to the 10th/11th August.  I can’t go in to specific details as to the reasons for the postponement but please rest assured that we at RAF Marham do not take the decision to postpone lightly.  I’ve had many meetings/arguments and I’m content that all the powers that be have tried their best to prevent this.  August is looking good with a good two weeks safety gap either side should something slip.

I realise that plans have been made and this will be an issue for some but we’d rather move the event to August than not have the MLR event at all. Many thanks for sticking with us and I hope that all your members can make it to the new August dates."

For those of you who have attended 30-130 before will know, this is always a possibility due to RAF Marham being an active airbase and I'm sure you'll all understand this is completely out of our control and governed by much larger issues. We are exceptionally fortunate to be able to use the runway as there is nowhere else commercially available which offers the same facility, and although I accept it's unfortunate news, I'd like to thank George and RAF Marham's management for doing everything they can before taking the decision to postpone, but also finding another weekend in their busy operational schedule to enable us to run the event later in the year.

What do you need to do now?

If you CANT attend the new dates:   please let us know asap (but before 30 June at the latest) so we can make the place available to others and refund you.

If you CAN attend the new dates:  just pencil the 10th and 11th August into your diary and we'll look forward to seeing you at RAF Marham in the Summer.

We will post this announcement on all forums and let people know if there are any places available shortly, and when they'll be available to book through the MLR Shop.

Again sorry for the news, but let's look forward to August!

Darin

Due to the date change to August 11th – we are getting a couple of cancellations through. GOOD NEWS for anyone who missed out on the original date!! :D   Places are now up in the MLR shop –   http://www.lancerregister.com/store_category.php?id=13  bookings will close on 19th July – and that is also the LAST DATE for getting all the security information to us (see instructions in post #1)

If anyone needs to cancel their original booking – you need to let us know by 29th June latest (please email darin@lancerregister.com or mechell@lancerregister.com) to get your refund.  After that date, the usual cancellation policy will kick in.

Post by: mechell on June 26, 2013, 11:19:53 am
Quick reminder guys - there are a few places available due to some not being able to make the new date!!

DATE CHANGED TO AUGUST 10th

To all drivers - you must register all details for yourself and your passengers here:  http://www.lancerregister.com/mlr_30130register.php (http://www.lancerregister.com/mlr_30130register.php)

Thanks as always to RAF Marham, I’m very pleased to confirm the MLR's 30-130 event will be held on Saturday 23rd March 2013 (or Sunday 24th March for the ‘all-marque’ day).

Please read ALL the following information carefully, paying particular attention to the Registration & Security Clearance requirements below;

Entries will be available via the MLR  MLR Shop (http://"http://www.lancerregister.com/store_category.php?id=13") from Monday 7th January 2013

Places can be booked from 7th January 2013 via the MLR Shop.

Please can I remind everyone that 30-130 is only 5 weeks away, but the 30-130 Registration Deadline for all drivers and passengers is Monday 22nd July .

This to allow time for the RAF to run their security clearance checks to allow everyone access onto the airbase.

There are still some places available on both days, so if you want to drive at 30-130 this year, please book and follow these simple steps to register;
Purchase a place through the MLR Shop
This will create your registration form which you can access here: 30-130 Registration Form
Select the day you're attending and complete ALL the fields for yourself and your passengers
Click 'Submit Registration'

Can I also remind everyone that all spectators must attend with someone booked in to drive at the event. They will also need to complete the registration details for their passengers too.

Below are all the Drivers and Passengers names in alphabetical order from the final download taken on Monday 22nd July - the day after the registration deadline and as sent to RAF Marham for security clearance.

Please note:
If your name isn't on this list please do not try to gain entry into RAF Marham as you will not be allowed in
If you've cancelled after the deadline your name may still be on the list. This doesn't mean you have to attend!

Hi Darin,

Do we have a list of runners and riders for the Sunday please? The last one has become rather obsolete now..

Here's the list of registered cars and peeps Dan. :happy2:

I'll be there with Steve and Craig from Statller.

4.36 / 239 mph! That's what 1500bhp in a GTR gets you!

Looking forward to see if the 2013 TOTB champ Andy F can beat that tomorrow in his scooby.

His winning runs at TOTB

DanGBs Leon v statllers Ed30 should be interesting.  Both running 450-480Hp ish, Both running flowed cylinder heads, both running stage 3 setups albeit different turbo setups.  Whats the weight difference between the two?  I presume the Haldex has added a fair few kg to the leon.

Shame the APR Golf R wont be there.

The 4wd tranny adds just over 100kg, so i'd say the Leon is 100kg heavier.

Steve will struggle to put all that power down efficiently through 2 wheels though, so like you say, it should be interesting.

I'll be happy to do a 16.XX time as the fastest stage 2+ 4WD so far did a 17.8.

Over 160mph would be nice too, so they are my unofficial targets. :driver:

How long have those two been without their cars now?

I don't mean to be funny but APR must have had their cars longer than they have!

I've never known a company keep owners cars for development for sooooo long. It was the same with yours too Sy.

Dunno but a gtx spools considerably better and has more on top too. If it was my car I would have upgraded the turbo donkeys ago because its the spool time which always let that car down. Keith's Golf R for example doesn't have that problem as you know and is a rocket for it.

Awesome day :happy2:

Bit windy though.....30mph head to crosswind.

Very happy bunch from Sunny Sheffield.

Steve Jr's car was phenomenally fast ( at last some grip too! ) making for a fantastic 12.xx second 30-130.

The AFP Superoo was simply unbelievably quick 30-130 although it would have probably stripped itself of bodywork if it had tried to go for a top speed run. LOL.

Lots of good cars in attendance and Ben's car was a good benchmark for how the wind affected us mid runners in the 30-130 as he was down around a second from last years runs.

I was hoping that more than DanGB would have turned up from APR, but you can't have everything.

One day I might actually attend an event where there is a tailwind!

Thanks to all the guys and gals at RAF Marham for another supremely well organised day and the chaps and chapesses from MLR for their hard work in running it too. :pomppomp:

Great day today (as usual) and good to see everyone again. Wind was a PITA, but everyone was on the same playing field so all relative on the day.

Cheers for the passenger run again John. Car is certainly going well now mate and I was happy to admit defeat in the end (even if you was on the loopy juice )  :happy2:

Probably the last 30-130mph event for the BM I should think, but she didn't do too bad for the minimal mods. Roll on next year with a new motor  :driver:.
Some cracking cars there today and some interesting thrills and spills. Car of the day for me (apart from AFP's ridiculous monster that was simply mind bending  :surprised:) was Steve Jnr's Ed30. 12 secs in those conditions was proper impressive and 170+ top end to boot..  :congrats:

Pretty good day.
highlight was haivng the car weighed.
Was 1400kg no driver, and 5/8 tank of fuel - so probably 25kg or so of fuel. Quite pleased with that seeing its in fuel road trim and its 4WD now.

Car wasnt running great. dont think its much/any more than 400hp at the moment. Also felt that it was misfiring bit of the runs in the lower gears.

cant bleive the speed of that ED30, and im sure the DSG helps too! My gear changes are wank.

Even I didn't expect the Statller Golf ED30 to be quite that quick.

Have you spoken to APR yet about it. Id be knocking their doors down!
As it has dyno'd 480 bhp in the past it shouldn't just leak away power , especially not to the extent that your car is slower than mine at top speed.

The 480 was with the race fuel map using meth.
I dont use meth anymore, so expect it to be under 450 normally. 400-450 depending on state of tune.

I need to get it checked out at some point yes, but still looks like its leaking oil. So thats more important.

Yes, when you went there were quite a few spots of oil on the floor. When Steve looked he said it was coming from around the turbo oil feed pipes, so quite an important place to ensure you don't have leakage.

My meth only nets around 10bhp at the top end and race fuel around 20-25bhp, so realistically you should still be around 460bhp.

His gt28 could just have the compressor changed to billet by Owens? A trick turbo upgrade is about 800iirc.

I think that's where you lose alot of time dan, because last time I drove your car that's what I noticed, lag when starting the runs, and then again after each gear change the transient response could be better its like the car took a little while to spool again. I mean once it gets going its quick, but the spool and response is deffo hurting you big time.

That's the beauty of APRs new 2.0tfsi kit, spools like a ko4, mid range like yours and a little more on top? Deffo one for the future now you are 4wd and can make use of all the power. Would knock whole seconds off your 30-130 time when comparing your car to other apr stage 3 2.0tfsi owners

Spools like a K04?

Not what APRs power graphs show! A good 700-1000rpm difference. Mind you, you are right about the GT2871, that is very laggy.

Having driven the APR Golf at K04 and GTx28 setups, im fairly certain there is negligible difference in the spool.

I remember you graphing up a K04 v Dans GT28 back along and there being a big difference, but the new GTx setups are definitely not like that.

Dans car should be stronger than it is there's no doubt about that! obviously hes got some issues for sure with it
Imho it needs a thorough going through to iron out all the niggles, he doesn't seem confident in it which is a shame after all the time and effort he's spent on it recently, silly things easily fixable I'd guess
A few days tweaking even the current spec would get it running a lot stronger and sweeter and yield much better results, coincidently I offered him some RF to try but he didn't take me up on it

Its time to build something wild that's still streetable, drive it down & give them traylor queens a good run for the money
7 seconds would be a good target time for next year  :signLOL:

Btw I overheard a conversation about the gearbox in that AFP Scoob costing 120k alone  :stupid:

Lol more like £12k Steve Andys not that bonkers. It's a Modena Sequential 6 speeder built by TEG Sport that's able to take all the pounding he dishes out. Looking at the records he's broken in the last 12 months I think he sees that as one of his best investments.

Really nice chap too. I was chatting to him whilst he was packing away and he seemed to me like a top bloke.

Me thought that but someone was whispering about it in the paddock
The stripped out blue loba 500p TTRS is having a 20k sequential box fitted so I'd guess Andys at 12k to be a bargain
I know the 997 RSR cup boxes cost 25 - 30k (10k to freshen every 10 hours too)
I'll never build something like that as it would return me nothing but a 1400kg 1000whp 7 second car interests me
Sounded absolutely fuxxed when he clocked off in it good fun !!

And yes Ben he was a really nice bloke very humble always smiling

Your golf was nearly as quick as the loba TTRS which weighed 1240kg as well, amazing!!!

Cheers Jason, can't wait to see yours run next year!

I'd like to think we can go faster with more grip! still no real grip until 4th gear with the 888 SG's even on the Marham surface!
The beauty about the car is its still such a lovely daily I see 30mpg + even in traffic and when you open the tap fully its a very entertaining drive!

We need to crack on with the RS for next years events, I'd hope for a 10.xx from it but I just don't know until we get much more familiar with that 2.5

I can't remember Dan, do you have a WOT box fitted to your car?

I dont, no.

I have the Sachs SMF clutchpack and had trouble shifting at high rpm and fast, The WOT box helps a lot on this, see if another member near by has one and try it out, it really helps the shifting, do believe me  :happy2:

Thanks to all of you who took part over the weekend - Saturday or Sunday - and making it such an entertaining (and exhausting!  ) event for us from the MLR and all the guys from the RAF. Apart from a couple of hiccups over the whole weekend, I'm pleased to say there was no damage done and both days ran very smoothly. It's amazing to see the cars develop and the times drop to almost into the 3 sec bracket now - how much quicker is it possible to go?!!?

Most importantly, HUGE thanks to George and his team of volunteers for ALL the work they do to make 30-130 (or should that be 30-230 now?!  ) possible before, during and after the events - all of which is on a voluntary basis, and of course the Station Commander and management for inviting us back each year - we truly appreciate it and look forward to returning in 2014.

If anyone would like to pass on their thanks to George and/or the Station Commander, please drop me a quick email and I'm make sure it's passed on.

Thanks again
