Morning folks,
One for the home AV experts here. Anyone recommend a decent HDMI cable to hook my my PS3 to my TV?
The current one i have is a cheap £1 jobie from Amazon. The last few months, the picture and sound would cut out intermittently for a few seconds and then back on. Ive read a few people who bought the same cable are having the same issues.
Just doing a bit of research and this cable from thatcable.com seems to get good reviews:

Anyone else recommend a cable they use? (looking around the £5 mark)
Thanks
Rich

Literally any cable will do mate... just get one off amazon. Certainly dont spend more than a tenner. :happy2:

The one I got off Amazon was £1.03, including delivery. Never had any issues with it.

there was a thread on this recently.
IIRC Saint Steve (who works in AV) mentioned that HDMI cables are built to a standard, and for non-professional use any cable will do. usually non-branded PS3 ones from HMV and the like are cheap (or at least they were when i bought mine years ago) and they've served me well including 3 house moves/changing set ups etc with no issues whatsoever. in fact i'm using it to type to you now (my PC is hooked up to my TV via the aforementioned HDMI cable).

Game do one, but i'm only aware of one game shop open now... That is in Belfast.
So the ones currys sell for £40 - £80 are no good or not good enough for the eye to notice?
they deffently do look of better build quailty thou...

Just a waste of money.

Like most AV the shorter the cable the better sound/picture, my HDMI is 1.5m long and has served me well since PS3 launch day when I collected mine from the local woolworths (remember them?)

I've got my Sky+ HD box hooked up with a 10m cable that was £23 from Amazon, the quality is fantastic :happy2:

How do they get away with it..
What is with the transmit speeds from 10.2 Gbps to 15.2Gbps?
or there abouts!

The cable quality might be.. but it wont make a jot of difference to the picture quality

I received a fancy HDMI cable for free when I bought my 3D TV a few years ago, it had an RRP of £79.
It packed in just over a year later and I used a £5 gold plated cable that I bought from ASDA in 2008 and I could not notice any difference in the picture quality between the 2. The £5 cable is still in use now.

But it would be the same on a 2 quid cable.

Surely a digital signal is being transmitted or not....I can't see how a cable can affect this as its sending 0's and 1's unless I have misunderstood the technology?

Exactly, no more to be said ;D

v1.4 cables (if we can call them that) have the following ability over v1.3 cables:
> Ethernet channel
> Audio return channel (ARC)
> 4K × 2K resolution support (4 times 1080p)
> Dual stream 1080p 3D
Other than the above there is no difference between v1.3 and v1.4 cables and your picture and audio quality will be identical.
Spend enough to get a cable that's not going to have crappy contacts (I've had those cheap ones for £1 too, a couple are still working but most failed on me due to poor build quality_)
I ended up spending about £8 on some nice braided v1.4 cables that are still going strong.

I think the most i have spent on a HDMI cable is £3 and that was for one 5m in length connecting my media server to AV receiver.
-
Ive got about 6 of these around the house. :happy2:
Picture isnt too bad now and then.
I should have bought the 1.5m version instead, as I seem to have big rolls everywhere, behind units :stupid:
What am I like? :rolleye:

Pricey cable considering the 4k TV to go with a proper v1.4 cable is only circa £25k

what tv do you have??
maybe look at updating the TV's own software, and download the update to USB stick..
I wouldn't of thought its a cable issue, nor your PS3.
