Who fitted yours and would you recommend them?
Looking to fit oem or similar looking rear parking sensors to my silver 06 GTI.
Are optical sensors much more than normal ones as looking to fit RNS 510 soon?
I can visit a fitter in the West Midlands, Warwickshire or London area.

I had my Cobra Parkmaster kit supplied, painted and fitted by Autoroofs in Leicester. Not too far from W Mids/Warks areas and cost me (IIRC) £170 +VAT

Looks like a decent kit that.... is it wired to your HU?

Satnav systems in surbiton will fit you parking sensors, but they seemed expensive ££££££££££££ to me. They quoted me £999 for front and rear optical parking sensors.
Glad I did'nt go ahead as I have now changed my car.

No that's audio only, I'm too busy looking over my shoulder to be bothered what's going on on my head unit :grin:
You would need a full OPS install to be able to do that, you can buy the kits for about £160 but then you've got to paint them which involves tapping into your CAN gateway, etc.

Sorry to jump on this thread. I've got dealer fitted optical sensors. They are very quiet when reversing. Does anyone know if the volume can be increased or where they will have fitted the speaker(s)?

Interested in optical sensors but the kit alone seems to cost £300 on eBay, or has anyone seen better prices? Rear is key, front would be nice.
I'm assuming I could get OPS installed now and add the RNS 510 later, or is the audio warning from the OPS also via the RNS? I'd have hoped the audio would work with the radio off etc?

No not with this, but I think you only get that if you have front and rear parking sensors and I believe it only switches on/off the fronts.

I bought some off ebay that came already painted and fitted them myself. Quite easy really, the hardest part was finding the reversing light cable. I know they ae not the optical ones but they do a good job.

NADS_UK, does the sound for the OPS come out of the radio or else where? Do they make a sound with the radio off?

Mine work with the radio off. There must be a speaker located somewhere in the boot. I'm trying to find out where exactly as they are quiet and would like to see if I could make it louder.

I paid about £160 for supply and fit IIRC but that was way back in 2006.

Ive got a 55 plate TDI so im guessing I need a kit that comes with a speaker and is put in the boot?
Anyone able to elaborate on this as I have no clue how they work lol :)

Page 124 (if it works like the factory fit, which appear not to have a switch to turn on/off by the gear stick/ESP switch etc)
"The volume of the acoustic warning can be set by Volkswagen Service"
Johnson's VW dealership of Solihull quoted rear only £249.99 inc vat for non audible VW sensor fit using "VW parts" they estimated......... double £ for optical sensors due to wiring into the RNS radio etc. :scared:

The speaker for the dealer fit sensors that are on my car is fitted to the black plastic part at the side of the parcel shelf , on the passenger side. I'm not sure if there is a default location though , or if each installation is different.

You shouldnt need to take anything apart , if its there its clearly visible , I will take a pic tomorrow and try and put it in this thread , its like a small extra speaker that sticks up out of the shelf.

My sensors ate fitted to a mk6 and thought it might be the same as a mk5. If you could still take a pic I would appreciate it.

After reading past posts and plugging away on the web....
VW dealer told me they would just tap into the reverse light for activation for audible only sensors (£250) they would not wire into the Vagcom etc. I can't see why anyone would be fussed about this. The only benefit I can see is if you wanted to fit optical (not just audible beep beep) sensor kit which is where install into Vagcom, requisite recoding etc allows the RNS/RCD give you on screen display of what's happening from the sensors. I've not seen the sensors they (Johnson's VW of Solihull) would use or the maker (they just stated "VW parts"). London VW dealer Alan Day never called me back.:fighting:
Leaning towards these rather small Cobra installs that appear to be close to those installed on very recent VW/Audi etc. Sensor is 17mm wide and stuck on from the inside.

I can do you OEM OPS for the rear colour coded and installed as per factory including coding for £275 if you're still looking.

They are on the shopping list as Mrs MrDo wants them :pomppomp: Currently looking at upgrade canbus first and head unit RNS 310 or 510 to make OPS worthwhile.
Shopping list is a bigger than my wallet can handle in one go :wink: but any info always appreciated :happy2:

Sure I can, but all depends on your head unit. For Optical Parking, you need the relevant head unit, otherwise you would only be able to have the standard OEM sensors.

I'm very interested in this, shame you're so far away.
My Cobra sensors are 17mm and flush fit. I have an up to date CAN gateway and an RCD510, would I get full OPS capability?

You would need to change out the sensors and get the correct module and speaker, along with the relevant harness. Then you basically need to strip the right hand side of the car of plastics to route the wiring to the front where it plugs into the canbus wiring. It does work on the RCD510 no problem.
