Title: Which Replacement Panel Filter?
Post by: onthegetsnowt on January 05, 2013, 06:58:57 pm
Hi guys, I'm looking to replace my air filter with a higher quality lifetime one -- was wondering what you recommend??

I see heads like ITG from earlier posts, but was considering other options, perhaps a Pipercross.

Could you let me know if any of you have used anything different

Cheers

Louis

In all honesty, you're better off with OEM and changing every 10k. With the lifetime ones you have to regularly clean and oil them.

Mine made +7bhp over a standard GTI on JKM's dyno with a K&N panel filter. Not an exact science as different cars, but how often have you seen a standard car make more than 197bhp at JKM's? I know I haven't.  . .

Nick @ R-Tech noticed the increased flow from the filter whilst mapping it.

You get a little more intake noise, improved throttle response also  :happy2:

Generally they require a clean every 20-30k miles.

Great little mod for £30

I have a Pipercross panel filter at the moment and at £30-£40 its as disposable as an OEM one and will be changed once a year (or at service time), whichever comes first. No idea if it adds anything re bhp but I believe (as mentioned) its does help a little with air flow.

Cheers Guys!

How come you need to oil the lifetime filters?

Cheers Guys!

How come you need to oil the lifetime filters?

They come pre-oiled (just give it a wipe before to remove excess).

It's to catch the cR*p in the air
