Do it yourself mate

Vw will want to remove the whole rear spoiler and charge you £400, it's all in here  :happy2:

Or is it a break in the cable where it goes from the body to the tailgate

I did this last week. Piece of cake mate. Part is £43 from VW and will take 20 minutes.

The entire strip will need replacing. I've done it and its very easy.

Do u get to it from behind or prize it off from the front

Compete light unit. You prize it off from the front by breaking the red plastic, the led strip is then coaxed out using a trim tool or equivalent. You then unclip the cable and viola. :-)

Yes. If you look in my build thread you will see what the light looks before fitting. It's a 20 minute job. I also sealed the edges with clear silicone and re-directed my washer jet to the 2 o'clock position.

I used the above guide for doing mine a wee while ago. Like Lone Par says, really easy and straight forward. Get reading and give it a go!

Did this on the weekend and seems to be fine so far. P***ed out water when the old unit came out and was massively corroded. Have moved the washer nozzle like others to try and avoid it happening again. Much better to spend £45 for the part rather than £375 to get the spoiler ripped off and replaced.

Hi. My spoiler light has all gone very dim. One half of the row of leds is even dimmer than the other. I'm assuming that this means I've just got a faulty unit and it needs replacing. Does anyone know if the part no is still 1K6 945 097F? I have an '05 GTI if that makes any difference. Cheers.
