After having a mini heart attack thinking I lost my only key I have decided I really should get a second one! Only ever had one!
Wheres best? VW have quoted £199... Is it risky to trust a replacement key specialist as surely they could make a third, come back and help themselves to my car!
Can anyone recommend a different way of getting a second one?
Cheers :)

What is your year of car?
When I've done them I've bought a used fob, reprogrammed it in VCDS to open operate central locking, bought blades cut from pics from a guy on ebay, then got a virgin chip and programmed it to the IMMO using the SKC in VCDS (obtained using Commander).
All in this costs about £45 for a full remote key, but if your car is 2007+ then you're pretty much consigned to the dealer.

Mines 2006! But tbh I dont understand half of that :signLOL:
Where abouts are you from? If close by I could supply beer tokens if you could help me out :happy2:
-
I'm near Durham.
Yeh it's all a bit :indifferent:
Is it early 2006?
Can give you the contact for the guy on ebay who cuts excellent blades from two good pictures for about £11 delivered.
-
Ah if you could put links up that would be good! Cheers
-
Is it not a bit dodgey giving youre address and pictures of your key to someone on ebay?! Maybe get it sent to a friends house. I need a new key also!
-
They can't steal the car with a key blade alone

2277malcolm on ebay does blades. Had quite a few off him, only one didn't work and he sent a working replacement right away for free.
-
Perfect cheers
SAMDEM i thought the same, blade alone should be ok but its gona be delivered to a mates just to be safe!
Working for insurance has made me paranoid :signLOL:

Whereabouts is the OP?
I locked my only set keys inside my old Focus, got the lock bumped fortunately (rather than having to break in) and got another key supplied, coded as per factory and cut from a company just outside Nottingham. Cost me £80 all in, not sure if it's local.

Im from Bromley, Kent! Cheers for the help though

I'm also after a spare key and not far from Bromley so please let me know if you do get on please.
Last time I ask timpson they wanted £170 cheaper than vw but still too expensive for me
-
Sorry to bring up an old thread, but my car only came with one key.... Dodgy second hand car dealer thats messed me about alot... I am after getting a second key but is the only way via the stealers on a 57 plate? £200 odd pounds seems so steep!
-
I'm based in retford and can produce and cut and program keys for most vw, a mk5 would come in at 100-120. Aftermarket but fully garenteed keys.
-
you can get them cheaper than £120
-
Details ed?
-
Yes you can get them for £25 but I'm certainly not cutting and coding using around £10k of my tool investment ( avdi + cut to copy machine) for free... Would you?
-
Wahooo I can now send PM's
Thanks for the offer but the 3 and a half hour drive and petrol I might as well pay the dealers price! I would be a little worried about an aftermarket part as well would prefer a proper vag one :S
-
I've never had any complaint regarding aftermarket key quality, but yes 3 hour drive may be tiresome. Iv just had a 5 hour round trip to crewe to program several keys and Sunday I'm in Wales catching 5 jobs en route.
Dealers usually take a few weeks, not a problem unless u lose all keys really.
