Title: MK5 GTI mirrors dip when in reverse question
Post by: Whiskyboys on January 26, 2013, 02:48:53 pm
Can any one help?
I have heard that some GTI's do this. I'm not sure if mine has it as they dont dip in reverse. Do I have to set it up or buy a part for it.

I believe you have to have highline display? I'm pretty sure my highline display had the option, but it's disappeared

iirc it's a setting in VCDS which I'm yet to do, have a quick Search should bring it up, here's one I found:

Depends what year your car is as well. They didn't introduce that feature straight away. Can't remember what year they started doing it and I think it was part of an optional pack as well. I don't have it cos mine is an '05.

Mine is 55

I looked at the thread posted above and it said about the mirror adjuster has to have the L R and some others. I've checked the mfd and I have gone through the settings but haven't a clue why they are not moving
Just not sure how to test it

Here is a picture of one from the thread posted

Mk.Vs with ...

- rear parking sensors have it
- electric folding ext. mirrors have it

That's the main reason why I ordered the folding mirrors.

Octavia RS buyers had to order electric seat adjustment to get it.  :stupid:

I fear that like mine, even with the folding mirror pack yours might to be just too early a model to have had that feature.  It might have not been till about '06 models that they added it as a new thing.

I think your right I sat in the car like a muppet going round and round. people walking past and crossing the street. :scared:

I'll just have to be extremely careful when reversing now. I've given up

It's not exactly an essential feature. Just a convenience. FWIW I keep the mirror control in the R position. When I come up to parking, I just push it downwards to lower the mirrors to an appropriate level. It happens no quicker than automatic.
Any reason you couldn't do the same (except maybe have it selected on L)?

mines an 08 with power folding & heated mirrors. It only tilts down in reverse if left in the L position. Then goes back to normal when taken out of reverse to drive away.

Yes, Eddie_NL had a kit capable of this that he was selling a while back.

I've seen a few of these for sale (Polar Fis) on here and offer the feature in question along with other worthy items.

I had this on my M3 convertible and found it so bloody annoying as you can only see kerb and bigger all else, only worked if the switch was in L position maybe same on golf.
