Well, I've had it a month so I thought I'd better wash it for the first time and give you all my thoughts. I won't bother with a link in reader's wives because it's not a VAG and I guess not that many will be interested in seeing nothing happen, other than me driving it!
It replaced this, a very well sorted 135i coupe.

In short:
Despite only having a bit (306hp/300tq v 320hp/332tq) more than the old one, it's significantly faster. Some down to it being 80kgs lighter, some down to the fact they're RRing around the 340hp/360tq straight out of the factory* When it gives you full access to every last horse in 3rd, you damn well know it.
*Source SportAuto mag using the VLN control dyno at the Ring.
Despite my old one having a lot of M3/Bilstein bits, this handles much better. It has mind boggling grip and turn in, absolutely zero understeer and adding more throttle mid corner does exactly what it should.
It's snowed. I haven't rolled into a ditch on fire. The Eco mode is perfect for applying that much power in the snow and I've been tootling around the ungritted country lanes with no problems at all.
It rides better. It's better on fuel, averaging 370-380 miles per 50lts. It's equipped better. It's, well, just better!
One thing it isn't better at is looks. I've grown to like it, I can't say I'll ever love it, but it is at least brave - not your typical cookie-cutter boring blob.
How it looks on its normal wheels.

very interested to hear your ongoing thoughts as this has jumped ahead of the RS3 for me as potential next car. at the moment it is in a dogfight with the Golf R
-
Dont find it attractive at all but dont doubt for a minute it's a fantastic drive. :driver:
-
Still loving the retro steelies Mike.. :signLOL: Just trying to think where I have seen them before.....
Ah, got it..

Ha!!
You'd be amazed how many people GTFO of my way, they must assume I'm unmarked Bill. :signLOL:

What could possibly go wrong?...........
-
Growing on me. Difficult to ignore when you put it that way........
-
Id have one in an instant. For some bizarre reason i like the look of it, but then i drive a Fabia vRS so my opinion on the look of a car is not worth much.
Whats the consumable and service costs for her and the older 135i?
-
The previous model was a much much better looking car on the outside! They are impressively powerful though and the inside of a BM is always very nice and comfortable too!
-
Despite my old one having a lot of M3/Bilstein bits, this handles much better. It has mind boggling grip and turn in, absolutely zero understeer and adding more throttle mid corner does exactly what it should.
Any tweaks planned for chassis or engine?
iirc this doesnt even have a LSD either does it? once the new 1M comes out im sure there will be loads more crossover parts again.
-
I got a 5 year service pack as part of the deal, so all I have to pay are the usual £250p/a tax, fuel and consumables. Insurance is £320 p/a for me.
Old car was 20k service and a cam chain, so no big one.
Set of Supersports around £570 a set.
Brakes £200 discs, £100 pads.
Stay away from proper M cars, and BMWs aren't the big bills they used to be.
No mods planned, it's perfect for me as it is. It has to function as a family car, 'Comfort' setting for the girls, 'Sport+' when I'm alone. You can change all suspension settings, exhaust naughtiness, throttle mapping etc. in the iDrive.
BMW sell their own uprated suspension, £1000ish buys you shocks/springs/ARBs/wishbones. They also do exhausts and there may be a map too, all warranty approved. Link to catalogue. (http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/accessories/performance/phase_5/accessories/vehicles/1series_5door.html)
eLSD is good enough to get it to drift impressively, these things have really come on, or get a pukka slipper from Quaife.
DMS are getting 380hp/400tq with ease, 'cooler and intake are much improved over previous.
Bastuck make naughty exhausts, sportcats, decats etc
I imagine once the Yanks get the M235i it'll really get going.
-
Excellent write-up! I was always curious to hear how it compared with the 135 coupe!

Seriously impressed with my 1er, I want one of these bad.

Love everything about it... with exception to the obvious issue!

I prefer the mk5 gti atheistically (possibly biased).... however i don't think theres any question to as which car is a better drive.

The scary thing is it's not even the 'flagship' of the series :driver:
I like it. :happy2:

Lovely looking...errr....no I can't say that......good car Mike
And at least you got it in a VWish looking colour. :happy2:
So is this why you want a go on the 1/4 mile?

I've just read that the 135i is a twin turbo... Is this correct?! I thought it only had one turbo and the M1 had a twin turbo..?
-
I've just read that the 135i is a twin turbo... Is this correct?! I thought it only had one turbo and the M1 had a twin turbo..?
The old N54 135i was a twin turbo. This was changed to single turbo when the N55 was released. The M135i uses the N55 engine. The 1M has the N54 engine for slightly higher power. N54 also has a forged crank.
-
So the m135i is single turbo? Strange...
-
Does this make the latest one more laggy? Assuming the previous had little and large inline TT's.
-
Its got some pretty fancy inner workings to prevent this. Also the single turbo is a dual scroll unit. It would be marginally laggier, but i have not seen a single review that has ever said this has a discernable impact on the driveability of the car. Even since they changed to the N55 engine in the 135i Coupe.
-
What about this then??
"considerably more cylinders and turbos than you..."
-
I've got a Z4 SDrive35i at the minute I am prepping for sale so got the chance to give it a blast this morning! Wow!! If yours goes anything like this thing does Mike I can see why your such a happy boy! Oh and the exhaust makes a great noise too! :notworthy:
-
It might have a quick blast up Shakespeare, John.
My old N54 one was a twin (2 sequential turbos the same size) the same as the 1M's lump. If you're heading for big numbers, this is the version you want. Fully forged internals, fancy valve train and good for 500hp with a few bolt ons, and more with different turbos.
This N55 has a twin scroll, which isn't a little and a big turbo bolted together, it's got 2 inlets being fed by 3 pots each. It's to help it spool faster and reduce back pressure into the head. That's as much as I know about it, but it's pretty much as lag-less as you can hope for, so almost drives like a big N/A but with sh*t loads of torque. I'm not aware of anyone reliably pushing this lump past low 400s.
This may change though, there didn't seem much appetite to push the N55 too far, as anyone who wanted silliness bought an N54 car. Now we're into a new model, they may focus on seeing what this can do?

Oh, I have more powers than that version
You can have a play when it comes in for a post winter clean.

Depends which version it was Mike.. The 35is comes with the same power as the 1M. The 35i comes with a measly 300..
-
Ah, I didn't know this, I like the Z4 even more now.
-
It's not the iS I'm afraid. :sad1:
-
Go to BMW
Ask for BMW Performance software v1
Drive out with iS powers.
-
what does "dual scroll" turbo mean?
Evo may be doing a test with this against the Astra VXR which would be fun
-
I'd love one of these, very well sorted car. I'll need a shot in one at some point, looks are growing in me too :)
-

Source BMW
BMW Twin Scroll technology consists of a sole turbocharger driven through two exhaust pipes. As it does with two smaller turbochargers this double charging causes a quicker build-up of pressure and thus more direct engine response. However the Twin Scroll turbo takes up less space and saves weight. The result: better dynamics, improved performance, less consumption.
I'm looking forward to the EVO video.
-
Looks well Mike, there is no doubting its VFM. Need to own a RWD with some decent grunt one day. Still not sold on the looks, but a mates dad has got one with the BMW Performance body kit and 19's. Completely transforms it.
-
I forget who, but a magazine done a comparison between this and the RS3. Auto car maybe?
-
Sorry correction, it's Chris Harris. Link - http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2xwecTp91-o
-
WANT !!
That's what I'm looking for next, a car I don't need to modify !
Well it would be rude not to add a Zorst !
-
I'm sure it drives and goes well buy what a hideous car much rather have a golf r over that or an rs3
-
The looks have grown on me a little but..... not to the point of me having one, everything else on the car screams "get one", then engine sounds and from the reviews is awesome and to be honest seems steps ahead of some other manufacturers.
to get that kinds of performance and dare I say 'economy' from a engine like that is fantastic.
-
i think its looks are quite masculine, cant say it looks like a hairdressers car. also quite colour sensitive - looks good in white, gunmetal grey etc.
how does it compare to a stg 2+ Eddie. Or an R32
-
I've no idea of ED30 power comparisons, as I only had a St2+ K03 car. It would piss on that.
Sunglasses Ron would be a better person to ask, he's gone from ED30 to N55 135i, albeit in coupe form.
Obviously an R32 will kill all.

I've had stg2+ ed30 and my 135i has been stage 1/2/3/4
Stage 1 is quicker in every way than any stg2+ k04 car. I've overlayed dyno graphs and its easy to see why.
-
Have to disagree there Dave..
This is a Vbox overlay from my 135i DMS Stage 1 and my Revo Stage 2+ Ed30 (both DSG/DCT) at MLR's 30-130mph day. Same temp, same conditons (Golf - Blue / BM - Red).
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg837.imageshack.us%2Fimg837%2F9770%2F135ivsgolf.gif&hash=f2a8655796719615b89e9520cef4076f6170ad3c) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/837/135ivsgolf.gif/)
Over that range I honestly expected the Ed30 to be slightly quicker to be honest. With their power outputs being fairly close but the BM humping an extra 150kgs about, it would obviously make sense. So when I first saw this to say I was shocked was an understatement.. :surprised: About close as you will get I think..
This is also mirrored at Santa Pod. Both have ran 12.7's, although I feel the BM has anther 1/10 or 2 in it with a bit more practise. This is more down to better traction though..

makes sense, cause rwd and a map and a downpipe takes you circa 400bhp on one of these?
-
So what does a manual m135i do a 1/4 mile in or even the 135i
Low 13s ?
-
Not seen or heard of any M135i's running the 1/4 mile in this country yet, so hard to say. The Auto M135i will easily be low 13's and a manual will depend on the driver..
-
Did the stats Monkey did on M135i v RS3 have distance?
My old stock 135i manual did 13.2 on runflats, at Brunters.
-
Did the stats Monkey did on M135i v RS3 have distance?

So about a second quicker than a stage 1 ed30.
-
Depends on where the cars are run.. For me Brunters is far to hit and miss with regards it's timing equipment (unless Stage 1 S-Tronic S3's normally run 3 second 0-60mph times?!?!) It's a great weekend and good to compare with other cars when running side by side, but I always take the times with a huge pinch of salt (some slow, some bang on, some optimistic).
A stage 1 Ed30 would certainly not be any slower than a stock 135i on a roll IMO. I ran a 13.2 in my Ed30 when Stage 1 (but with full Milltek), but that was a DSG car. Well driven manuals should run high 13's all day long.
Having driven both manual and auto M135i's, they are noticeably quicker than the previous 135i. That's obviously helped by less kerb weight and extra ponies. The auto box is perfectly set up for 1/4 mile runs too. Quick changes, short geared and also allows you to brake boost off the line for easier launches.
I am pretty certain that once some people start mapping these and chuck them down the strip at Pod, mid to low 12's will be achievable. Which for a lightly modded, 2wd hatch, is pretty dam impressive :surprised:

I doubt it, if anything that surface sandbags FWD. You'd need a fair fight, i.e. the Pod.
-
mind did 14.14 will a boot full (at santapod)
-
I think I seen stats in a mag for the m135i at 13.2 stock and I ve had that in my edition 30 before at stage 2+ but I had issues with 0-60 times i think 5.8 seconds was the best I managed
Quick cars ! The m135i sounds leaps and bounds a head of the 135i aswell which I'm quite surprised about.

Even a stock 135i will see off a S2+ Ed30 to 60mph (off the line). It's when rolling the Ed30 gets going..
-
Yea think the manual does 60 in 5.1, never going to get close to a RWD of the line but it just shows that the eddy makes up 0.7/0.6 seconds on the rest of the run when it gains some time back.

Sort of, yeah.. Don't forget though that 0-60mph is time/speed, where as 1/4 is time/distance (and speed). So it's not quite as straight cut as that, but the Ed30 is certainly better once out the blocks..
-
Also depends on which version of 135i.
N54 will make 380bhp and 390ftlb at stage 1 (stage 2 is 420/420)
N55 will make 350(ish) and 369ftlb at stage 1
-
Really like these, been thinking about one for a next car. Love the colour too.
-
Saw one of these in grey last week in covent garden. The pictures dont do these cars any favours, they look much better in real life. :happy2:
-
Another update then.
After nearly 3 months and 2300 miles, I had to fill the washer bottle.
As you were.

Here are some stats for the M135;
http://fastestlaps.com/cars/bmw_m135i_f20.html
Im not sure they can be relied on :happy2:
-
Some legit. Some such as the race with the 1M exposed as faked for TV/YouTube.
It's pretty much accepted it sits about 340hp stock. Tuners are getting anything from 370-390, but via sophisticated piggybacks such as Hartge's, rather than ECU flashing.
BMWs own brand, which doesn't quite smell as nice as VAG - which it got topped up with. :signLOL:
-
Yeah i need to get some VAG stuff.... been using halfrauds sh*te and it actually froze up as I was driving back home tonight! :fighting:

have you read the evo article this month where the Megane just pips it as the better drivers car but the BMW is the more accomplished all rounder really? They seem to suggest they prefer the manual over the auto?
-
The Megane is awesome, so it's not surprising something built with a Cup chassis and a proper diff is favoured as a driver's car.
The 'box is great, I thing the PR drive to shift the auto meant all the press cars only had that. The manual is a joy to use.
-
Your going to need to delete the " considerably more turbos than you " bit now.
Ive still not seen a single 1 series with the sport kit yet, I'm quite surprized as it was quite popular on the old 1er
Has BMW released any of there performance range parts for the new 1 series yet ?
-
We have now released our new stg1 for the M135i, gains of 53bhp and 70ftlb and can be switched between stock and tuned and installed as a DIY with no ECU removal  (a bit like a Revo switch but actually rewrites the car to complete stock file)
-
Ahh Gobble, you're right. I'll amend the turbo count. M kit hasn't been out long, I've only seen 1 other M135i too.
Nice work PDT, piggy back style?
-
Sounds familiar  Nice work Dave
I'm over your way next week, so may pop in for a natter. I've added a new little mod to mine and wouldn't mind a re-run on your rollers seeing as you have done it both stock and mapped..
Can you fit me in at a decent price?
-

Definitely has some design cues to the MCoupe; albeit toned down.

Bread vans FTW!
-
Sounds familiar  Nice work Dave
I'm over your way next week, so may pop in for a natter. I've added a new little mod to mine and wouldn't mind a re-run on your rollers seeing as you have done it both stock and mapped..
Can you fit me in at a decent price?
Yes, just call in advance to book as things are hectic here. We are now in a much bigger premises in Sunderland.
Tony, no piggybacks, a genuine ECU flash.
-
Another pointless update. Warm weather and Pilot SuperSports = outstanding winnage. The car has far more mechanical grip than I'm prepared to exploit on the road, so I'm off to Millbrook next month for some advanced driver training in a Caterham and mine. Woohoo!!
How are you getting on with the tuning, PDT? Any takers??
I only know of a couple of Hartge cars still. However this was interesting, a solid 340hp from a bog stock car, on what are commonly regarded as the meanest rollers in the UK

whats your average MPG at the moment ?
-
Low to mid 30s.
-
Low to mid 30s.
For the power that is epic!
-
This has to be THE choice of performance car out there at the moment , if you have the funds and can tear yourself away from a Volkswagen! I reckon these will be very sought after when they are on the used market as well , they are outstanding figures.
-
I would happily have one.
They aren't that expensive. I think they look good. They are possibly the ultimate car for every day motoring?
Following this thread with interest... I'd love one, stick a map and zorst on it... ohhhhhhh..
-
I'm waiting with interest what the M235i will look like
-
Low to mid 30s.
For the power that is epic!
Stick it in Eco mode on the motorway, and it'll happily do 40s... However spank it in Sport+ and it'll soon remind you its a blown I6
-
the pilot super sports have transformed the drive of my eddie too :star:
-
Ahh, you got them in the end then? Ace aren't they!
-
Better than F1v2?
-
I can't compare exactly, as they were on a different car. Certainly in terms of feel (stiffer sidewall) and bite. Ultimate grip may be about the same.
-
yeah the F1v2 are a bit soft... but grip well.
-
Ahh, you got them in the end then? Ace aren't they!
yeah awesome, but in fairness did do a few other mods at same time but am convinced the PSS have had the biggest difference
-
Next set of tyres me thinks. :happy2:
-
Next set of tyres me thinks. :happy2:
Along with the 14 sets of track tyres.... :P
-
Good power there, but torque curve looks abit uneven??
For a stock car you'd expect it to be more even and less uneven looking?
have you added anything to it or have you left it as god intended?
-
Not my car, Steve, just snaffled the graph. Come to think of it, others I've seen have been smooth. Wheel spin?
-
Not my car, Steve, just snaffled the graph. Come to think of it, others I've seen have been smooth. Wheel spin?
Knowing jkm they wouldnt give a printout of a wheel spinning car.. straps would of been tweaked I'm sure as 340 on those rollers and 365 is equal to a superchips car lo.
They rolling road much more powerful stuff down there.
-
More torque than standard too......
-
Having looked at a couple of other M135i graphs.... it seems that that is a characteristic of the engine steve. :happy2:
-
Not my car, Steve, just snaffled the graph. Come to think of it, others I've seen have been smooth. Wheel spin?
Hearing how JKM strap there cars down, I very much doubt it'll be wheel spin... I hear that the car below was recently at a JKM RR day..

Might explain why they read low, if they're strapping them down that hard!!
In other news. Drove to Chester, got lots of MPGs.

I really wanted a Cayman or an Evora but looks like I will need to start commuting 15,000 miles a year :sad1:, so M135i on the cards, nothing else out there that touches it for all round ability. Booked in at local dealer next weekend
-
Oooo and are you still happy that you went for the manual box?
Never considered auto, but with the commuting I am considering..........

There was an interesting comparison of both 'boxes in this month's EVO.

No way just sat down with a cuppa and this months Evo nice one!
It's Henry Catchpole's Fast Fleet bit, page 133 :happy2:
-
Damn still not sure that helps Lol. May have to travel a bit and try the manual as local dealer only has 2 autos... Close ratios and 2000rpm at 70 sound good. But manual is MANUAL! LOL
-
Yeah, mine would be a manual, just because I like to change gears. His report is pretty contradictory I thought.
-
Mine's my fun car, I slosh around in an A6 if I need to do anything mundane, and because of that I chose a manual. It's the latest gen dry sump 'box they fitted to the 1M, it's very very nice to use.
But then the auto is outstanding, tough call!
-
24 hours of ownership..... 24mpg average. On a run it will see 40mpg and 10 mins of 'fun' can easily achieve 13mpg.
Noise at 6-7k rpm is addictive
-
And did you go manual or auto :signLOL:

Auto

Pretty much on par with what they're all putting out stock :happy2:
I've done 3500 miles now, it's feeling like it's loosening up a bit.

How much is the 135i going up for then Dave? I'll check my PM box when youve decided

With the nice bits:
Stage 2 map, downpipes, bilsteins, pagid pads, quaife diff £18500
Stock will be £17000
-
only just got round to watching the chris harris video of this vs the rs3.
if i do get another hot hatch after the Eddie this is front of the que at mo although Mk7 R and A45 AMG will have to be considered...

Love these :happy2:

Just had a test drive in the M135i with 8 spd autobox
Glad I made the effort and didnt order the auto blind, based on all of the glowing reviews, as I really didn't 'get it'! It was fast but it still felt like an auto and sounded like an auto. Paddles were ok but with 8 gears I soon either lost track of where I was or got bored of 'flapping' them  Drove nicely though. Driving position was spot on. Steering was good for assisted and the ride on std suspension was exceptional, making me question whether I need the adaptive set up. Only disapointment was that it wasn't as loud as i was hoping and after market exhaust will void the warranty :sad1:
Going to see the Mercedes man tomorrow to see what the std spec is going to be on the A45 AMG but think it will be out of budget. Especially taking into account the 10% discount on the M135i
-
The adaptive's spring and damper settings on 'Sport' are the same as my non-adaptive, the only difference is paying £500 to have the 'Comfort' setting make the dampers softer. I don't need soft!
BMW M Performance exhaust (http://www.bmw.co.uk/en/topics/owners/accessories.html#eyJhc19xIjoiaW5tZXRhOmF2YWlsYWJsZUZvck1vZGVsU2VyaWVzJTNEQk1XJTI1MjAxJTI1MjBTZXJpZXMlMjUyMDUlMjUyRGRvb3IlMjUyMFNwb3J0cyUyNTIwSGF0Y2ggaW5tZXRhOmF2YWlsYWJsZUZvck1vZGVscyUzRFoxQkkgaW5tZXRhOnByb2R1Y3RDYXRlZ29yeSUzRE1hbnVmYWN0dXJlckFjY2Vzc29yeUNhdGVnb3J5MSJ9), not pictured but £850ish. Tres louder, no warranty issues. There's other stuff in there, like alcantara steering wheels and carbon clutter. It's very much like JCW tat on Minis, loads of BMW branded aftermarket style extras.
-
I was led to believe that in Comfort is was more comfortable than normal and in Sport harder?
Plus lowers car by a MASSIVE 10mm :signLOL: and is an active valve system which I think could be pretty handy here on the B roads of the Peak District
What do you think about the noise after living with it for a bit, need a boost? Now I'm not going auto I may see if I can spec the exhaust from new and get the 10% discount off that as well.......
-
I was reading this Mike:
http://www.bmw.com/com/en/insights/technology/technology_guide/articles/adaptive_drive.html
Hang on now I am reading adaptive is actually 5mm higher than std ie 10mm lower than std 1 series. This is very confusing LOL
-
The EDC one explains the M135i version better. Its a variable rate damper, the springs and ARBs are exactly the same (check RealOEM). I didn't think it was 'harder', I think you just notice it more because of the contrast from comfort. Others do say it's harder, be interesting to hear what BMW say.
Noise is somewhat governed by having a 17 month old, otherwise that pipe would be on!!
http://www.bmw.com/com/en/insights/technology/technology_guide/articles/electronic_damper_control.html?content_type=&source=/com/en/insights/technology/technology_guide/articles/adaptive_drive.html&article=electronic_damper_control

-
I am sure your 17month year old must be a petrol head as well and would appreciate the extra burble :happy2:
Amazed I cant find a proper review on the adaptive suspension anywhere :rolleye: That EDC article is useful though and leads me to believe the car should corner flatter whilst remaining more comfortable....... Dont really want to spend £550 on a supposition though LOL Although anti dive sounds good as well and good safety feature
Read you cant specify M performance exhaust from off as is dealer fit so will hold fire on that one....
Quite excited  :jumpmove:
-
M135i has the most simple front pipe to swap ever, I'm on the case designing a replacement section next week that should really liven the exhaust note. The exhaust has 3 elements, rear box, mid section with 1 small resonator and the front cat/downpipe
-
Took it to Millbrook, drifts on its lock stops like a proper diff'd car. Very happy.
-
Excellent write-up!

Mine has had a wake-up with some decent fuel:

Yoiks, that's a jump!!

Wow didn't expect it to make such a difference, will definitely be sticking to the good stuff.

380+lbft on a stock car?!?! :surprised: I do hope all this '450-500nm safe limit' on the ZF box isn't true Dave? I assume it will be well over that once software has been played with? :scared:
-
Limits, schmimits.
The car has been to Wales. It worried sheep.

I've seen graphs of them making 360+ on other dynos so I'm not too shocked. More testing will be carried out when I get time, there seems to be a lot of difference between gears on the dyno when it ones to power figures.
-
Was this on the M135i meet Mike or your own personal hoon?
It was the week before. Under the radar style!
-
Took mine out for a blast yesterday across from newcastle to Alston (fantastic roads) and found out a lot more about the car.
Chassis is brilliant, even in light rain the grip is huge, struggled to find the cars limit of grip. Sport mode is great, steering feels very natural, not old fashioned BMW feel but very intuitive and fast. 8 speeds are too many as you find yourself getting a little lost but a louder exhaust note will help with that. You can make rapid acceleration from pretty much any part of the RPM's so if you do get caught out by the stupid amount of gears it doesn't matter.
Brakes are a sore point, I dislike them. They seem to do what they want, not what you ask for on the pedal. I haven't driven another one yet to compare. Hard to explain what they do but when you apply pedal force they have an initial effect, then seem to back off by themselves and then bite again. My old 135i with pagid rs29 were so much better.
-
They initially lack feel/bite, the power is there though. You need to try and kill the pads like a race pad bedding in process, they'll come to you a bit more then. I think braided lines and different pads would help, never really been a fan of Brembo's own stuff.
-
I still want one, with DCT............. :sad1:
-
Although they don't offer DCT with the M135i, the ZF auto box is near enough as quick to be honest and you would be very hard pushed to notice the difference.
-
I guess its lighter too.
As much as i want one, i think my "weekend toy" will end up being a track prepped Mk1/2 Golf or a 7 based kit car.
-

I'd be surprised if braided lines made any difference on a new car. Perhaps it's a weird servo? Still a great car I'd love one but as tempting as it is I'm trying to clear debt haha.
-
Probably right, but mushy rubber is mushy rubber.
-
I presumed that the M135i brakes were the same as the 135i?
-
Almost, rears are the same twin pot Brembo, fronts are a big 4 rather than a 6. Power is the same, feel is a little different.
-
Rears use a different sized pad, disc on the m135i is bigger and thicker.
Pads removed today, they are stamped BMW and manufactured by Jurid. I spent a few hours comparing them to other pads but nothing is just right (140mmx100.1mmx19mm) a close fit is the 2011> X5m front pad.
Asked all the usual manufacturers such as brembo, pagid etc.... Nobody does one to fit as yet. The amount of dust these standard pads give off is horrible, you can see this when you remove them, lots of dust buildup in the caliper.
Pad itself is actually pretty small.
-
Any updates guys (Mike/Dave)?
Dave - Have you got round to adding software to yours yet?
-
Might be doing Cadwell on Sunday. Other than that, business as usual :happy2:

Yes 335i manual of course
Pick up on Friday. Nice car but felt a little ordinary surrounded by all the Astons LOL
Needs a bit more noise, feels to quiet and smooth in its power delivery. Nice though. Will definitely do as my 'compromise' car now I have a big comute...
Any must have mods Theo?
Matt
-
I take collection on Thursday. :jumping:
It has a few bits and pieces added, all from the BMW Performance catalogue including the exhaust which certainly makes the most of the N55 engine. I really like how smooth the power delivery is and with the added noise it finishes the car off.
First thing on my list will be some new wheels as the 18's look a bit lost on the car.
-
Oooo jealous of exhaust. I think it needs it to take away a little of the smoothness
-
A cheap fix is bypassing the mid-box for more noises.
In other news, whilst they're not getting any prettier, they are getting modded...

Just contacted someone on PH that seems to indicate he can get a considerable discount on these. :innocent:
After the Porsche driving day on Friday, i convinced myself i would hold out until i could spend a much higher amount of a Cayman S with a lot of options ticked, but i just dont think that will happen for far too long. So in the meantime, i REALLY want an M135i.
-
There'll be someone who can get a big lump off for sure, hell all I did was email a few dealers and get 10% off full price and a free 5 year service pack!
I'm sure time, effort and effort and contacts could yield more.
-
mine has new wheels this week:
and eibach had an order in today, so did milltek........
-
A cheap fix is bypassing the mid-box for more noises.
In other news, whilst they're not getting any prettier, they are getting modded...
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fe123%2Frobertsm2006%2F018d978338425662049e0d8a7e857bb1_zps5968ad2e.jpg&hash=e5ae7611ef6423aa14a085ed974a10da1db5e2e3)
looks smart.
Those VMR VB3 wheels dont actually fit without some arch modding, they are et45 on rear (no higher offset available yet), speaking to our guy at VMR he said that these wheels came off the car shortly after for a different set. Shame as I think they look perfect.
-
Nice looking wheels! :happy2: When I was phoning around a month ago 10% and 5 year service pack was best I could get that was from Harrogate. Bloke took 4 days to get back to me though when I said I wanted to order it that day and give a 2k deposit so I got fecked off and didn't bother. Shame I'd be picking it up next week on my birthday! Although I'm getting on with the 335i OK, bit big and crash on my local b roads if I'm being honest though. But am moving soon so will be better(why I bought it)
-
Well, I had an appointment with BMW this morning for test drive and if the discount was right I was going to sign an order. But I cancelled last night.
I don't think the car will have the sense of occasion I'm looking for, the car would only be used for sunny weekend blasts.
I'm pretty sad about it, but back to the drawing board.

Hold out for the Porsche, you won't regret it.
-
It's not a car you drag out of the garage on a sunny day, it's an uber fast daily hatch.
Drive one to satisfy your curiosity, but it's probably something Pork/Lotus/other you're looking for.
-
I think im just going to bide my time, instead of looking for a 2006/2007 Cayman S soon, im going to save more over the next couple of years and get a new generation Cayman S. Its such a weapon, i dont think anything else compares to what i want.
If i did few miles, id have probably got rid of the A3 for an M135i already. I still really like it.
-
I thought you had problems with the driving set up on the 1 series hence why you sold the 123d

I'm a bit like this although think I have now adapted ok. If you want full on sense of occasion then hold fire for the Cayman. I kind of wish I had as that what what I wanted although my circumstances changed which meant a 15000 mile + commute.
BMW is as AWESOME a daily as you could ever hope for, but it is very refined and not what you are looking for.
If my girlfriend gets the new job she is going for this Wednesday and my commute drops to 5k again the Beemer (as nice as it is) will be traded for a Cayman
Good luck with the search
-
I'd have a Cayman in heartbeat, other than it not being really suitable for a child, I'd have one now.
Not really a viable second car though, it's a lot of money depreciating in a garage waiting to be used. I'd much rather suck up the running costs and enjoy it 365. Maybe have a shed as a winter car, if you're really that way inclined.
-
An M135i will also lose around £22k value in 3 years. :sad1:
I did pop into my local stealers yesterday (i had been having an email convo) and he only offered 5% max on the M135i anyway, so we walked out. It doesnt help that the dealer is right next to a Porsche & Ferrari/Maserati garage in a fairly wealthy area. I bet they are used to screen price buyers all the time.
-
22k?
The GFV on mine at 3 years is 55% of its list price, and given I got 10% off, that's pretty good. Granted the residual figures on the 5 door are slightly higher, but I don't stand to lose anywhere near that even if I just hand the keys back.
Speak to Simon Snowball at Elms Bedford, tell him I sent you.
-
Oops, i was looking at 4 years not 3 with a plan to buy it afterwards, with only around 15-20k miles covered.
-
Online config or proper dealer post-discount figures?
Do you really want it for 4 years? I love mine, but I don't see it as a keep forever car, there's always new stuff coming out to tempt me!
-
Same here, but i value my marriage.
The wife knows i have a serious condition though, and she is patient. Very patient. Thankfully, she is just as car mad as me.
-
Before Isabel arrived, my missus couldn't give a toss - but I guess that's life!
I've been promised I can have whatever I want once she's in school. Just in time for the M going back
Things like this will be around then, 991s will be palatable, choices, choices...

All the prices and specs have gone up on the M135i now, and interest rates on PCP are back up to nearly 9% at the moment.
Spec for spec, the car i wanted is now £1200+ more expensive. Will see if the Q3 interest rates come back down again though.
Edit: Finance rates back down to 5.9%.
-
Hmm, they went up about £800 just after I bought mine. What spec do you want? I'll see what you don't need.
I got Pro Nav & heated seats, the free audio upgrade was on offer and I'm happy with its quality. Buying now, I'd spend the extra for HK.
As Harris said, it's a car best appreciated at its bare bones spec. I could have lived without the Nav, but the extra it added in GFV and with discount meant it only really cost me £700.
EDIT - just seen.
You don't need either pack and the internet is rubbish, slow and clunky through iDrive inputs. Use your phone if you need the 'net. BMW app also lets you send stuff to the car, such as destinations for the Nav.
I reckon the interest would be negotiable too, push for the 4.9%.
HTH
-
This is the reason I jumped at the chance to buy mine, it's an ex demo car with loads of spec and got it 6 months old with 5k miles for £8.5k off list

Competitive finance is only subsidised when you buy new unfortunately. Else I'd also look for an ex demo.

Now if just be selecting:
Visibility
Comfort
Harmon Kardon
Sport auto
And obviously you get Pro Media now, and they include BMW apps with it now, instead of optionally.
-
I honestly don't think the Vis or Comfort pack add any real value to your life. They're the kind of things you take as a bonus when buying used.
-
Mmm... that M4 looks bloody nice. However 991...
-
Why not buy nearly new at 28k and take advantage of the 5% loans out there?
-
A 5% loan for the full amount would be a higher risk for me than 5.9% on PCP. Not to mention it costing more on a monthly basis.

Luke you defo have issues the way you buy and sell things!, if I was your missus I would not let you near any of the family income. :rolleye:
Why not get an old classic sports car if it is just for fun, when you change your mind inevitably in a few months you will get most if not all your money back. That way coping with your :stupid: problems won't be as painful on the wallet.

Some people don't think twice about blowing £200 a week on social drink and recreational drugs. I do neither, so don't you worry about what I spend my money on!

personally i'd pay a bit extra and go for the M235i based on the styling when it comes out, 2M should be fun

I think the additional premium for the Coupe isnt worth it. It does look pretty though, and im sure that facelift will work its way on to the hatch in 2014.

Ok chap, i know what you are saying. :happy2: I agree. The problem is, in ALL the cars ive owned, i have never found something that truly made me happy. The search continues....... Ive also considered an Exige as a fun car, but on UK roads i considered it too much of a compromise, as it wouldnt spend its life on the track.
-
It's impossible to recommend a car to someone else, much like everyone has different tastes in women/men/other.
My list at the moment if I was buying a weekend car would be as follows:
Cheap - E30 325i Sport, 968 Sport, MK3 MX5, 182 Trophy
Middle - S1 Elise 135/160, Caterham, 987 Boxster/Cayman
Top - Boxster Spyder, Cayman R, 964 Carrera, E46 CSL, Elise SC
With the excepton of possibly the MX5, they're all pretty much static or depreciating slowly. For me to have a 2nd car again, it'd have to fullfill the terms of my last ones... they have to be slightly stupid, and something I'd walk past my daily to get to on a nice day. Don't have to be the best/fastest thing out there, but just something that makes me smile.
As for the M135i. I do genuinely believe it is the best car in its price bracket, and that's simply down to BMW being so agressive with the pricing. I refuse to own a Haldex car, and I won't buy another with no manual option, as I want to make the most of owning them before they all dissapear.
-
I think a £15k Caterham would be pretty hard to beat for weekend thrills for the money! Plus you will only take it out when its sunny, so those 2 weekends a year will be REALLY special! :signLOL:
Want that M235i........
-
If I was looking for a weekend car it would be a Noble M12 GTO 3R. Never driven anything that comes close.
-
Stage 1 M135i:

I was expecting bigger gains from that engine.
I agree with the others in regards to new car vs used car. The depreciation hit you will take on a new Porsche etc will be massive.
You could easily run a dedicated track day toy plus a sexy sunny day weekend warrior from the money you would pay out to pcp a Porsche/BMW. And at the end they won't really lose money.
-
I was expecting bigger gains from that engine.
What, a stage 1 tune on a complete stock engine with gains of 64bhp and 114ftlb isn't good enough?
-
I thought it was a just under 40bhp gain? Why 64bhp?
-
Because peak gains are not overly important on a road car so as much power as possible is dialled in to the more usable RPM range with the biggest gains being achieved from 2500-6000rpm.
-
To be fair with that much torque it will feel monstrously fast !
Although I thought a few RRs were stating that some of these were putting out 330 ish standard, I think that's why maybe the headline figure of 362 didn't seem like much of a gain. Well that was my thinking anyway.
-
its 1bhp more than my stg2+ eddie on the same rollers, with a lot more torque and RWD... its going to be sillly quick.
tbh i dont think i will add any hardware to next car i get.. stg 1 will be enough as will still be quicker than stg2+ eddie
-

Well that's area under the curve. Tbh for myself gains under 4500rpm are irrelevant, as I use my gears.
I just expected more from a medium sized engine peak to peak, as for example the 2.5tfsi kicks out over 400hp from a remap, so 70 odd Hp gain peak to peak same story for the ed30
-
M135i stage 1 vs RS3 stage 1 (bhp and torque on seperate graphs)......... Makes an interesting comparison:

1 less than mine but with a dollap of extra torque & I bet it sounds a bit better than mine aswell !
I'm in the same boat as you my next car will need to be fast from the box, Map and back box and that's it !
-
Placed an order for M135i today!! :innocent:

You won't regret it.
Just been for a drive in mine, stock mode (I can switch maps via steering wheel) for a quick blast from Sunderland to Durham and back (25ish miles) and mainly country roads was massive fun and managed 32mpg.

Ill give it 6months and you'll sell it

I don't think I've wanted a car so much (apart from the new Cayman S) before. Was just waiting for our house purchase to get out the way before committing. Really looking forward to it.

@Deako - I remember seeing your Polo GTI at Ultimate Dubs last year, and I'm sure your signature box has had at least 3 different cars in it since then
You sure get through some cars :notworthy:

What colour are you going for ? Im getting one once our house has sold and were in our new one !

3dr Alpine white
Sports auto
Professional media
Harmon Kardon
Should be here for my Birthday in September! :)
-
Nice ! If I keep my eddy I want a black one if not it will be white.
I think mine only specced up at just over 32k and it was just over 30k with the discount, I think prices have went up since then though, have you drive it yet ?
-
Went to Shakey, it was HOT HOT HOT!!!
20 minute+ queues and the car was cooked. As I thought the gearing bit me on the ass... on the limiter in 3rd crossing the line, or a short shift to 4th, both lost me time. Great fun though and a huge improvement on Brunters.

Yea you can really feel the differance the heat makes it was in the 30s here and I took the eddy for a drive in to the mountains and it felt like it had reverted back to stage 2, Ive never felt that much of a differance before !
Either that or shell nitro plus is Sh1t !
-
I thought it was you bombing down the strip every half an hour or so.
Decent trap speed, but I reckon the starting block wasn't prepped enough or the surface temperature killed it as I've noticed a few people's 60' times seemed slower than the Pod. :sad1:
-
Yup, I was really having to manage wheelspin in 1st & 2nd, not something I'm used to at all - it usually grips and gets off like a stabbed rat.
I reckon a decent launch would see me able to use 4th to just tickle that trap speed up a bit and get in the low 13s. Cooler days and shorter waiting times can only help too, my bonnet was like the surface of the sun!!
I'm tempted to head to the Pod now.
-
Run what you brung? Id be up for that!

Lovely colour that mate, epic car aswell

I sat in both the A45 and the M135i at Goodwood FoS.
Sadly not enough room to the right of the brake for my oversize clog but the BMW was definitely a class place to sit.
My vote goes to Munich irrespective of anything else.
-
Was it the Alpine white one with the carbon interior bits?
I've ordered mine in similar spec, minus the devastatingly costly carbon parts. Although I have ordered the M performance kidney grilles and pedal covers.
-
I was up having a look at the weekend I was really surprised at the interior space and the entry room from the door !
Bigger and easier to access than an e90 I reccon.
-
It was the white one with red leather.

How much are 1Ms going for thee days?

Pretty much never moved from their 40k sale price.

Yep good investment
