Saw some pics this morning but couldn't get on the forum to post about it.
That is some serious power from a 2.0L
I really like it :happy2:
-
Same here, read about this this morning. I like the bit about the engine is individually handbuilt by an allocated engineer from start to finish.
-
so you know who to blame when it blows up :signLOL:
-
^^^
:signLOL:
-
I'd have that over a 135 that's for certain... Looks superb, but wonder how much one of these with a double clutch is? :popcornsoda:

My thoughts are, who ever chose the music for the vid should be strung up by his knackers. :fighting:
-
i like em, although thats just based on looks.
-
Its a :happy2: from me!
The only problem for me is it's named after the main Birmingham to Coventry road!
-
Any idea on price for this? Will it be priced to compete with the GTI or more likely the R?
-
They are saying 36k only comes with Dct
-
Cheers , a bit steep , I wonder if its that much better than a 135i?
-
£35k I read.
I really like it, and reading how they've adapted Haldex and built the chassis really impresses me. I think the AMG will be more aimed at the 'if and when' new 1M & RS3, rather than M135i? Be interesting to see how they compare though.
Note how engine is nice and far back in the bay, lots of it behind the front axle. Turbo looks like it's off a cross channel ferry, look at the downpipe!!!!

Ditch the cheesy music in the ad and let me hear the engine..
Ditch the cheesy turbo badge on the back I'd have to debadge it
According to the telegraph prices will start at £32,000.
I'd take one over the ugly M135i anyday..
-
Hmm maybe I should stop modding the R with immediate effect :signLOL:
-
Hmm maybe I should modding the R with immediate effect :signLOL:
Excellent plan.. :happy2:
You want a lift to the dealers ? Orders being taken from April.
Looking forward to car swopping, I'll allow it if you get one of those :signLOL:

The model in the vid is close to 40 grand the seats wheels big brakes and exhaust r all extra

PH reckons it's standard spec! They can't put silly little brakes on an AMG model!
-
Went looking on the weekend it comes with 18 and black brakes the red brakes and black alloys are extra so mr merc informed me and their r AMG specialist
-
Where u see this? Germany?
Oh well the BMW will kick its arse in sales then if thats the case!
-
The new A class has a nice driving position and is a well thought out car. I really like the look of this.
Especially with the aero pack
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fthumbsnap.com%2Fi%2Fdro1Ngmi.jpg&hash=547ec03d2fa2b9c2142ea929429dced1bd2936c2)
-
Where did you look at one? I think Merc are the only people that know, so unless anyone works for them, we're in the dark.
As Chungy says. The pics on PHs represents UK standard spec @ £36k.
-
Omg wish I never saw that pic lol
-
That's a beautiful car, interior and exterior !
Mercs are really looking good this weather, pretty much all of them !
-
All reports say that the A class drives like sh*t. Maybe the AMG will differ, but is still take an M135i.
It is a beautiful looking thing though.
-
If priced 'in the region' this will surely give new S3 and Mk 7 Golf R (if they do that in RHD) a bit of sales competition won't it.
Being 2.0L turbo, 4WD Haldex and dual clutch box.
Even though I'm VW to the core could be tempted by one these Mercs though.
Cannot personally see me driving a BM no matter how great it was. Just my view. A three pointed star on the other hand..

Then you would be missing out. 10% discount on an M135i means £27k. Better GFV and competitive finance (if you can't afford outright purchase) means they are an immense bargain at the moment. You can spec a Mk7 GT to nearly £30k with just a few modest options. Doubt there will be much discount to be had from Mercedes.
-
can you really get a 10% discount on bmw M135 . Any idea of apr etc..
-
great car by the looks!
but more importantly how good it drives?? AWD can be dull at handling feel but let's wait for some tests!
for now big thumb up from me :happy2:
PAul
-

Yes, I got 10% off mine + 5 year service pack. 4.9% and 55% GFV after 3 years.
Say what you like about its looks, every motoring journo's car of the year, that performance for that money - find comparable elsewhere.
-
Looks fantastic. Much more appealing than the new S3, M135i etc....
-
very interested in this, looks far better than rivals but can it provide as good an all round package as the m135i?

Kinda reminds me of the Alfa Giulietta, especially in white, although prefer the merc.

-
Interested to see if they also release a 3dr version. The 3dr A Class comes out this year.
-
Guess the silver fox chap is correct looking at this AMG portal
http://www.mercedes-amg.com/webspecial/a45/index_eng.php
Stock is double spoke 18s. Not sure what standard seats are then. All interior pics seem to show the optional sports seats
Lots of options as usual. Engine uses air/water charge cooler! Would like to see how the new S3 compares to this :driver:
-
I really like this I sat in a lhd drive a few months ago with those seats in and carbon dash on the 18s and it looked the dogs bollox to me once mapped up I think it's going to be an animal
-
Wouldn't have dreamed for a minute that a Mercedes A-Class would ever be cool & desirable to hot hatch owners
-
I'll go and have a gander at one in Mercedes Benz World.
They do look good and sound ideal.
-
Serious amounts of wantness from over here..
I will be all over one of these come early net year when the BM goes. So long as it drives well and comes in under budget.. Only problem is, once the seats, red calipers, aero kit, carbon pack and other interior options are added, it's going to be a seriously expensive hatch.. :scared:
Wonder what headroom will be in that engine though? 360bhp from a 2.0, 4 bagger is a lot, but I dare say you will be on the right side of 400bhp with a cheeky map. Plus with 4wd, dual clutch box etc, it will be a fooking weapon so long as it's weight doesn't get the wrong side of a RS3.
-
The pictures leave me cold sadly, have to agree with a few others that I would prefer the M135i and a few tweaks
-
No one else think the car looks a bit boy racer/chavvy with the aero pack?
-
Better vid of it here (although not giving it enough beans for me)..
Is it me, or does it sound a little bit like the TFSI with a Milly?
-
I guess soundwise you can only do so much with 4 cylinders, a turbo and some steel tubes.
Looks good though. :happy2:
-
telling that none of the pics/vids are of the standard spec and are optioned to some degree...... (even the "milly" exhaust, probably......)
-
Seems UK spec will be much higher than Euro, those seats are standard and some other trinkets... apparently.
-
Have you guys seen the upcoming CLA version? Now that is a looker, same chassis, slighty wider and longer than a current c-class
-
I think the CLA looks awful, to my eyes it has a very awkward shape with no fluidity to it. It goes from being slab sided and angular around the front wings and doors to outrageously curvy at the rear.
-
Another vid...I think it looks pretty good
-

Doesn't sound too healthy towards the end of the video, something's whining under the bonnet
-
^^^ that sounds fooked all the way through the video it's making an awful noise
-
This is kind of why this car doesn't appeal to me. For me AMG is about amazing noise and driving sideways. Seems this car can't do either.
Incidentally, did anyone see the E63 4matic review on Pistonheads? 0 - 60 in 3.6 seconds for a 2 tonne plus estate car!

i will be eager to read full review in evo. hoping it will be better than m135i, but i cant see that it will be somehow :sad1:
-
I just think you'll see the M3 vs C63 scenario all over again, minus the screaming V8 and power oversteer.
-

so which do you think youi would plump for andrew out of - rs3, m135i or a45 amg?
i was sure the rs3 was for me.. now i think it is bottom of these 3
-
I think with the RS3 the general feeling is it is looking dated now, though still highly desirable for many. There is a certain appeal to the 5-pot and the surefootedness of having 4-wheel-drive. But I'd choose a car that is entertaining, so it would be the M135i. Rumours of a face lifted version have surfaced too, so who knows, it might even look OK!
-
I'm with Andrew on the RS3 - as much as it would be the complete car for my everyday life/job, I couldn't get past that fact you're paying £40k for a 10 year old platform..
-

is it really that old/outdated? very odd move from audi. Wonder what M135i value will be after 3 years could be an extreme bargain then

Yeah there is an awful whine noise , wonder what it is? There was non of that in the video posted earlier

Agree on the RS3 been outdated but I'd have one over an M135i simply because of the 5pot.. There should be a facelift out soon seen as though the new S3 is revealed ?
-
Depends, it always takes ages for Audi to get the RS model out...
-
^^^
Yeah that's why they are always pretty much outdated on release...
-

This 'was' the case and I was just about to say the same thing tbh. However, the new versions of the RS4, RS6, RS7 etc are no where near as long on their release as the previous models..
Either way, you won't be sat in a new RS3 for a couple of years at least (if they do actually release one that is)!
-
Having spent 20+ mins dribbling over the A45 at Geneva I know we will be getting one of these at work this year as a priority. :jumping: :jumping:
The Edition 1 version with the aero bits and graphics looked amazing as did the normal one with the satin silver paint work they had on display.

The carbon dash and red ringed air vents make me want to vomit. Only IMHO though.
-
That motor is a work of art, look at that manifold
-
I'm hoping Mercedes Benz World start doing some of their driving experiences using one. :happy2:
-
very very cool that engine design. Wonder what material that manifold and downpipe is made of. The engine on the stand looks like a mock engine compared to the one in the car though?
-
Not much space in that engine bay for a nice CAI :chicken:
-

The engine on a stand was a moving mock up to show the inside of the turbo with led illuminated cutaway sections and a moving gearing box/transfer box :happy2:

It looked like a 4" intake and removing the airbox would allow for the big cone filter :happy2:
-
Ahh that explains that, thanks
-
If I were to go with one of these next then it would have to be in Grey with the dark rims, carbon bits, Red calipers and the aero kit. However, I'm not sure about the spoiler and whether it suits the car tbh. Looks like it's been ripped straight off the back of a Focus RS..
-
Just to resurrect an old thread but I believe they now have one in Mercedes Benz World.

Looks like an "Arbarth" :chicken:
-
That is full of win IMO.
-
looks great
