Title: Rust on Wings
Post by: Daveh on February 18, 2013, 12:42:56 pm
I was washing my car yesterday and noticed bubbling on both front wheel arches of my car !! Its an 06 plate.

Is this a common problem and does anyone have a rough idea of what is would cost to have both wings painted ?

Cheers

Yes it's so common VW will fix it for free, some people have had to fight fir it or pay 30%.

Both my mk5's have had new wings without quibble.

See the many threads about it already on here. Just make an appointment with an inspector at a local main dealer. If not fruitful, go to another local one.

Skard/Rachael

Thanks for the responses. My car started life in Northern Ireland so i guess its classed as an import, any idea if this will make a difference ?

Cheers

You won't get a definite answer here, I would ring up a local dealer and explain the issue & give your reg  :happy2:
It's still UK spec.

I'm not ignorant and yes i do know that NI is part of the UK. My understanding is that a car from NI is classed as an import, i may be wrong on that count, but my geography is spot on.

Has anyone had this done at a VW garage in the North West of England ?

Cheers

Maybe check your understanding or at least note on your post that you are not certain before you insult my home country

....Maybe you should take a chill pill and understand that what a corporate organisation such as Volkswagen AG recognises as a territory re import/export is not necessarily the same as a political territory. Transport across the Irish Channel is port to port, hence the terms import and export.

Is this a joke ? Insult your home country ?? I must have missed something. The HPI check on my car showed it as an import, fact.

Back to the point of the thread, anyone with experience of a NW garage carrying out this work, please let me know.

Cheers

Just go to your local dealership and have them inspect it.

Search for the very long thread on rusty wings - you have the option of ringing VW UK

my car is just in process dave, both wings being replaced - as long as no previous has been done you should have no problem getting it done for free!

Mine are bubbled and rusting too but the car is lowered on eibach springs, would that void my warranty? Also its only £60 for a pair of new front wings.

This shouldn't void your warranty, when I took my one in they did say anything and I had it sitting low.
Also I'm sure the front wings from dealer are more then that!!! (may be wrong)
Not in all cases they will change the wing, if it's not too bad the will strip the paint treat the metal then paint the wing.

....That's right  :happy2:

My car is lowered and I had the wings repaired without any question.

It's entirely up to VW whether they repair or replace. I think it's reasonable to assume that their decision will be based on which is cheaper for them.

In answer to whether this is a common problem - have a look at the picture on this advert!
