Title: How to acheive most from the K03
Post by: DRJGTI on March 19, 2013, 12:35:15 pm
As you all know the standard MK5 GTI comes with the measly K03 turbo.

My car has a Stage 1 remap, decat and custom 2.75" cat-back exhaust system with Pipercross panel filter. The car does go really well but seems to die off over 100mph? (On a private test track) Any ideas what this could be?
Anyway what I'm after is as much feasable power from the K03 until I can afford to go K04 in the future.

I've read that 3" downpipe with pre-cat delete will help matters, what about an aftermarket intake or is the panel filter fine? Anything else people can recommend? Obviously a stage 2 map once other mods are on. I've also heard of a stage 2+ map? Some of this boggles the mind. I've a;so got the DSG box and read that a Revo DSG map transforms things again?

I've had a few 1.8T powered VAGs and know pretty much how to get achieve good power from those but the 2.0T block is a whole new experience for me so I'm on a learning curve.

Thanks guys!

Strange that you have a decat and not a pre-cat delete.

I'd go for at least a pre-cat delete or better a 3inch DP, then Stage 2 it, perhaps a nice CAI before the new map.

Do you have a Rev G DV in there?  And try some Nology Silver D4YS plugs too.

Best to have it scanned to see if things are running smoothly before anything else :happy2:

Thinking about it, didn't think you should run a decat with a stage1, usually flags errors which a stage2 will map out...

I have Stage 1 remap and Stage 2+ hardware(B&B Downpipe with 100cell cat, bastuck exhaust, BMC panel filter, autotech HPFP internals...) installed for around 2000km and never get CEL... So I think this depend of remap...

I had the CEL delete done by a Tuner friend of mine after I had the decat fitted. I only just discovered that there is a pre-cat restricting things too!

I may just jump straight on a 3" downpipe, a CAI and then Stage 2 which I assume should give me a nice gain but will I need the DSG remap to make the most of the torque?

There cant be a pre-cat if you got a decat pipe fitted, the decat pipes and downpipe are the same thing.

I was thinking the same, unless he's got some weird bespoke thing on the go... Cut out main cat (keeping original DP with pre-cat and flexi), weld pipe in lieu of the main cat, then mate a cat back on to it :rolleye:
Doubt anyone would do that though...

Mine cost £230 delivered from the US.  I think it's built for K03, but can be converted for K04: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,57182.0.html

That's exactly what I had done haha. Main cat's gone, original DP with pre-cat and flexi still in place.

Hehe, at least you can try out the pre-cat delete with a full de-cat, should make some decent gains, and probably enough to go Stage 2, if not grab  the 3inch DP :happy2:

So with the pre-cat out it would be ok for Stage 2? What is "actually" needed to get the best from a Stage 2 map? Anyone know what the Stage 2 map has that differs from the Stage 1?

tighten the actuator when you get it mapped,  will give you a few more ponies.
