Well what a relief Kieth!!!
After 2 months of sh1tting myself, I had court today and got 4 points and a £377 fine. I'm absolutely chuffed to bits.
I collated all the advice and suggestions I got from you guys on this forum, and used this in my plea paperwork and on the day.
I'd really like to thank all of you who took the time to reply to my thread back in Feb, your help was invaluable and it's yet another example of the calibre of this forum.
THANK YOU!!!!!! :happy2: :happy2: :happy2:
For anyone else who finds themselves in my situation in the future, here's a summary of what you guys told me to do:
Wear a suit
Call the magistrate 'Your Honour'
If you know you're guilty, plead guilty early by post but then attend on the day (that was seen as a real positive)
Advise them of your intention to do Institute of Advanced Motoring Course & Test (That got nods of approval from all 3 magistrates)
Be genuinely apologetic when you get your chance to speak
Use any extenuating circumstances in your life that you'd like them to consider when sentencing
Highlight your driving history if it has been good up to now
If you drive for a living, make them VERY aware of this

It wasn't too bad on the day, it was the build up and not knowing the severity of the outcome that was scary. My livelihood is licence-dependent!! :scared:

Yeh know the feeling! The build up is the worst as it could take 6 months to go to court which just destroys your life. Least it's sorted and 4 points at least allow you to relax per se. Many more happy years of happy gti motoring to come!

Sounds like a result to me. :happy2:
-
Good result mate, hope your insurance company goes easy on you too. I'm with green light and thy have given me a good price even with 5 points for my similar incident. Would recommend them. :happy2:
-
Excellent result Ian--now don;t do it again
-
Not a bad result mate (as I mentioned on Facebook). The relief from knowing the outcome must be great.
-
Lucky laws are worse in Scotland I got caught going 99mph by traffic years ago £150 fine and 5 points did much same as you letter from work and suited and booted lol
-
Sounds like the best result fella, your approach to this and humility was obviously noted, resulted in this outcome.
Hope your still driving like Miss Daisy!

Yeh they actually stick you on for dangerous driving if you exceed the limit by loads - something that will never happen in england/wales!
To anyone outside who's reading this, where not all irresponsible GTI owners celebrating a lower than normal penalty for exceeding the speed limit! The court has realised an honest mistake and dealt with the OP as such, as opposed to the a serial speeder/person who doesn't care! That is why it's a good result.

If I was the beak I'd have given you a few months in a Turkish prison you naughty boy...
Glad it turned out reasonably well.

So, when the points expire, will all four points come off or is it still three points off at a time? Would be a bit daft for any insurance increase if you only had one penalty point?

:popcornsoda:
I don't know, I've never had more than 3 before
Do they normally only take 3 off at a time? If so, when would the second lot come off?
-
It'll be 4 years: https://www.gov.uk/penalty-points-endorsements/how-long-endorsements-stay-on-your-driving-licence
-
The points only last 3 years but can't be removed till 4
-
5 years for insurance purposes too :sad1: Never did get that.
