Title: 30 or 45-50mm drop?
Post by: marcnazer on April 03, 2013, 11:03:47 am
Hi guys,

Im looking to lower the gti more for looks than performance but I dont want too much of the standard ride comfort taken away, after a bit of research I think I've decided on H&R springs as they seem to fit my budget and have a good reputation.

Now...
Ive found an online store that sells 2 different H&R springs for my 06 GTI DSG. One set is £202 and lowers the car 30mm and the other set is £190 and lowers the car 45-50mm!
Im wondering is 45-50mm is too low? Would I have problems with rubbing/scraping on things. My car is standard apart from this and has the 18" Monzas on it.

I guess if anyone has made a similar drop im after pictures and opinions.

Thanks!

Now dont quote me on this but id be under the assumption that the 40-45mm would actually be more like 30 as is with the eibach versions. This is because the GTI already comes with a lowered suspension over a standard model. The standard model obviously has to come down that much further so 40-45mm would be a decent drop. Awesome gti confirmed this wen i ordered my mine through them. Maybe give em a bell 0161 776 0777. Hassans your man.

Yeah I heard about that, but I've not seen it read anywhere else so I wasn't sure. It seems like they should advertise it as '30mm lower than standard GTi' Also I just quoted you

I just had a further look into it and they both have different part numbers which would suggest they are different drops, it also says they are specifically for the GTI.

The Part Number for the 45-50mm drop is 29260-1
The Part Number for the 30mm drop is 29176-1

I have the 29176-1's on my GTI and they drop by about 30mm even though the ECP label stuck on the box said 40mm. A lot of the time they are relating to other models, not the GTI.

Do you have a link for the 29260-1 springs?

Yeah it seems most people are using those springs as seem to be happy with them so I think I will go for them as anything more would probably cause me problems going up curbs and stuff.

Here is the link to the lower ones http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Golf-Mk5-Hatchback-2-0-GTI-2003-2011-H-R-45mm-50mm-lowering-springs-kit-/230785983512?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item35bbeaa418

Great!
I think you will have an order over this weekend  :happy2:

Although just looking at your site now I notice you sell some Apex springs that lower a GTi 35mm or 30-40mm anyway.

Ignoring the price difference would I really feel the benefit of the H&R springs over the Apex springs on daily driving as the extra 5 or 10mm drop could make all the difference to the looks of the car that im looking for as sometimes 30mm doesn't look quite enough to me but not far off...

Right, lower the GTi by 30mm lower than the standard GTi springs? This whole thing is confusing. Haha
