My mrs has gearbox issues on her golf...

the price of a new box is pretty collosal.... anyone know how much a recon is? im in somerset so would need to be somewhere in reasonable travelling distance :)

I know this isn't a answer to your question but have you thought about getting a gearbox from like someone breaking a car on eBay or a breakers yard?

I have yea, but ideally wanted some warranty or something as Ive been told the issue is a common fault therefore dont want to buy one for it to have the same issues really - not entirely sure what to do if im honest!

Horrific noise in 5th gear... can be firstly hear when releasing the clutch and again when engine braking... like a grind as if its rubbing.

also creaks or rattles kind of when going engine is under load...

apologies for my awful explanations lol :)
