Hey guys,
Looking to replace all 4 of my tyres, as my car came sold with cheap japanese ones on which are appalling in the wet!
Which are the best? Ive been browsing the forum and come down to either goodyear eagle F1 as2s or Michellin PS3s but my options are still open.
Also where is cheapest to both buy and fit them? Is it cheaper to order then get them fitted separately or all from the same site (e.g. blackcircles) Ive heard cam skill are also pretty cheap too but dont offer fitting.
Sorry if this has been discussed before!
Thanks in advance!
-
I love the F1's, but I've not tried the Michilens, Camskill are usually pretty competitive, clicky (http://www.camskill.co.uk/m61b0s134p105410/Goodyear_Tyres_Car_Goodyear_Eagle_F1_Asymmetric_2_-_225_40_R18_92Y_XL_%28R1%29_FP_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_E_Wet_Grip%3A_A_NoiseClass%3A_2_Noise%3A_70dB) :happy2:
-
I used black circles for my Continentals :happy2:
-
I use some guys in Macclesfield. Can't beat them on price, they advertise on eBay and will do postage if your not local too them :happy2:
-
PS3's from camskill. They were 106 each last week on special offer!! :happy2:
-
I've heard that if you ring up some tyre fitter partners on Blackcircles etc they'll often beat the price.
Or enquire with local firms, you'll be surprised by some of them.
-
Always go for F1AS2s - they are the best tyre for grip out there, better than the Michelins by some margin. The CS3s get very close to the GY but overall for ultimate grip in the dry and the rain, you cannot beat the GY.
Camskill everytime!
-
The Eagle F1 have a great sidewall look too. Best tyres I've used this side of track tyres, you won't be dissappointed! :happy2:
-
I prefer Sessantas to the Eagle F1 assy 2.
Camskill is one of the cheapest places to buy. Although my local tyre shop normally match/beat their price by a few quid.
-
Ps3's from camskill I managed to pick them up for £170 each bearing in mind I have 19's so it was cheap!
-
I got some more Michelin sport pilots 3s at the weekend - great tyres. Michelin are also doing an offer at the mo where if u buy 2 or more u get a free £50 fuel voucher. Haven't tried the gys but had the mochelins all round on the car for a while now & can't fault em. Wet grip is immense
-
Assymetric2's and Michelins are both great tyres.
The goodyears have won just about every tyre test over the last few yrs - I had a set on my last car and they were very good.
Not tried PS3's but I'm sure they're going to be pretty good too based on previous experience on Michelins.
When my conti's are worn out I'm going for anther set of Goodyears.
-
Ill be trying the michelin pss
-
Camskill are great and next day delivery is always a bonus

Like most others i have found goodyear eagle f1's to be the best tyres i have ever had. A close second were Hankook ventus evo v12, excellent grip. Listed as Hankook k110 on most sites :happy2:
-
Just got my tyres changed to Goodyear f1s, after reading the feedback from members. I would highly recommend them.
-
At the moment im edging towards the f1 as2s. Cam skill have them on special for £102 each and £10 worth of fuel for every tyre which looks pretty good. Do you reckon its worth ringing up my local dealers to see if they can better it? Im in the Reading area, does anyone know anywhere good?

Call tyre barn a call mate
I use them for tracking and all my tyre changes for last 2 years, never had any damage done by them, got a really good relationship with the guys there.
I bought my tyres from Camskill they were 87 quid each plus postage plus fitting at £10 a corner.
This place did them 94 each fitted ergo would been cheaper.
http://www.thetyrebarn.co.uk/
They do not fit personally supplied tyres anymore though.
-
JAMIEP91 I pmd you about tyres for sale.
XJAY1337 might have to give them a call, thanks for that!

I have Hankook v12's on my gti, great tyre in my view and at under £90 a tyre there cant be better value out there.
-
Go Revo :happy2:
Ohhh this is a tyre thread. GY Assy 2's get a vote from me then :drinking:
tyreshopper were the cheapes supply & fit price I could find
-
I usually go for f1's or similar, i was once a bit tight for cash and didnt want any of this cheap chinese rubbish so tried some uniroyal rainsport 2's and have to say i was really really impressed with them, think they were around 70 a corner. definatly worth a look for the price anyway!

My first question is what stage is your car?
If you are max 250bhp the recommendations already giving is okay, but as you climb the power ladder, you need more grip, at least up front. I would avoid Continental, Michelin PS3 is okay for this level and GY F1AS2 at the top of this class
From my personal experience running above 350bhp for a couple of years my recommendations would be the Michelin Pilot Super Sport due to the great balance between grip and mileage. Trouble in 18" on these is the loadindex which is 88 and as i understand can be an issue in the UK. The 235/35-19" should be okay regarding loadindex (I'll have to check on the missus car as she has them fitted atm) and are well worth the money.
alternatively the Toyo R1R is a great contendent as i saw more than 15.000km on the front in size 225/40-18".
Remember a harder rubbercompound might have a higher treadwear and should last longer BUT if your power ends in wheelspinn your harder worn tyres might end up lasting shorter than a more sticky tyre that actually gets the power down to the ground
-
Running Michelin PS3 on my Gti
To be honest wasn't to impressed, not to great in wet conditions when pushed hard. Though they do have decent wear rate.

Vouchers, only redeemable as Tescos... :scared:
-
Does anybody have any experience with Uniroyal Rainsport 2s?
I've just got a Gti after owning a Mk1 Fabia vRs which i always used them on, they were brilliant tyres, just as grippy as the proxes that were on it when I got it in the dry and streets ahead on wet roads. not sure if they will cope with the extra power of the golf, but for the price, they have got to be worth a look?
-
Purchased some Michelin PS3's today from Costco, they had 20% off. Worked out to be £403.16 for 4 including fitting/balancing, can also apply for a £50 fuel gift card, bargain.:pomppomp:
This offer is on at Costco in Southampton til the end of May, well worth it if you need some new tyres. :happy2:
Mine didn't need changing just yet, they said I can go back anytime within 2 years to have them fitted.

Ah that looks a great deal mandy. Was gonna go for the GY F1 AS2s but if i can get all four corners done for 400 fitted and the possibility of a £50 fuel card then i may have to go for the PS3s. :happy2:
Now i just need to acquire myself a costco card somehow.
Unless anyone knows of any better deals out there?
Also is this deal available at all Costco's, im in Reading so ideally would go to that one.
-
Hi Mandy thats a good days shopping
what other makes of tyre to cosco supply ?
do u have to buy all 4 to get 20% discount
mandy the £50 petrol card does it work in any petrol station ?
thanks in advance for reply pete
-
You receive a prepaid MasterCard which should work in any petrol station that accepts MasterCard.
-
This deal is in the Southampton branch only as far as I'm aware.
The 20% off and fuel gift card offer is only valid on Michelin tyres. You have to buy a minimum of 2 tyres to qualify.
I was told the gift card is just a prepaid Mastercard so you could just spend it on whatever you want, doesn't have to be fuel.
-
i know quite a lot of people who have used camskill before but that price you got for the michelins are unbelieveable
i have used a company called event tyres a few times, cheaper than places like kwik fit and e-tyres
all fully fitted and come to you too
-
michellins expensive but good, cam skill price good
-
just saw the costco post, thats cheap!
-
if in reading micheldever tyre services have good prices as well
-
Just gave micheldever a ring they gave me a reasonable quote for Goodyears. However the cost co price is still working out to be better!
Mandy, when does the free fuel offer expire? I saw somewhere that it ended at the end of april.
-
The price of the Michelins are unbelievable, I didn't even have to think twice! :jumping:
The national deal for the fuel gift card ended at the end of April, but this fuel gift card ending 2nd June is exclusive to Costo. I can upload pic of the leaflet later if that helps?
-
Yeah sounds like an unbelievable deal! definitely looking into getting this. Yeah that would be great mandy thanks
-
This is the leaflet you need to claim your fuel gift card:

where do you get the form?

They had a stack of them next to the till in the tyre department... along with Michelin stickers and pin badges (if that's your kind of thing)

Yes mate, had 4 fitted about 18 months ago, the fronts have just come to the end of their life. They have been ok but only had semi worn contisports to compare with on this car. I've gone for the people's favourite good years now and will be dropping them on the back wheels, I'm sure they will live up to the hype!

Mandy....
Is there anywhere online to view Costco tyre prices?
Do you know if they sell 225/35/R19's?
:popcornsoda:

I couldn't see anything on their website so I gave them a ring...
He said the PS3's don't come in that size. He said they do Michelin Pilot Super Sport in 225/35/19 for £217 each fitted (inc. VAT), or 235/35/19 for £220 fitted (inc. VAT). These would need to be ordered in. They qualify for the 20% discount and £50 fuel gift card.

That's a great price Mandy :happy2:
With 20% off that works out at £173 fitted for Super Sports AND a £50 fuel card :congrats:
Camskill have them at £180 each (without fitting).
-
I paid £119 fitted each for the michelin PS3 a few weeks ago on my girlfriends Leon, in addition to the £50 fuel card that i got twice i put the forms in each name, so basically 4 fitted for £376 (225/40/18).
I used clickontyres.co.uk
http://www.clickontyres.co.uk/buy-tyres-online/?ct-tyre-finder-width=225&ct-tyre-finder-profile=40&ct-tyre-finder-diameter=18&ct-tyre-finder-speed=Y
they have Goodyears at £102 & ps3 at £112, + £12 fitting. Main site is based in shipley, west yorkshire, but they do mail order also.
:happy2:

I just bought 4x new Pirelli P Zero Rosso's from Camskill, £440 delivered and fitted, which I thought was very cheap.
First time i've used these and very happy with them so far, anyone else tried these Pirelli's before? WHat did you think?
-
My new car has Hankook S1 Evos which are about 8/10 as good as the Sessantas.
