As the title suggests im not sure what to do! Currently a mk5 gti on stage 1 revo with milltek tbe and evoms intake.. I dont know wether to save my pennies for a new car next year or go for a ko4 bolt on.. Need some suggestions please! Been quoted 1920 for a good used ko4 conversion

Go K04, best value for money by far :happy2:

K04 all the way, best bang for bucks you wont regret it

Damnnn i better start saving! In terms of power what can i expect? And does noise in exhaust and engine change at all??
-
It all depends on how long you plan to keep the car. Almost £2000 plus your gti might see you close to buying an ed30 and have k04 as standard. I thought about it when i had my octy but i couldnt justify the expense for only a couple of seconds quicker in acceration through the gears. Id rather have the money in my pocket now as ive got a 150bhp Focus mk3 and i can get by most lorries on the road. You cant use all that power everyday unless you plan on track daying it .
-
I suppose thats a good point! Im still umming and ahhing its a tough one!!
-
As above, might as well get a ED30. You have the KO4 plus all the other bits in the engine to make it reliable. Plus you will suffer less depreciation and have a nicer car.
That's why I did the swap just over a year ago.
-
I wouldn't bother K04 your GTi unless you are really attached to it, it would make a lot more sense to put it towards an ED30 like others have said :happy2:

Hmmm i guess i have become attatched to this car! Just had a milltek tbe fitted too and it seems to sound even better now that its had some miles covered in it... I let a friend drive it while i watched him take off sounds immense when outside the car much more savage and the dsg pops wow,, bit off topic!

Oh _ell yes! Do it ;p

Do it! it's an awesome mod and totally transforms the car :happy2:
People will say, sell the car and get an Ed30, but its just not always practical.
Putting aside any personal attachment to the current car - if you have mods on you current car, you will have to go the effort of removing all the parts to fit to the new car (assuming that you've kept the standard parts, or there is even more expense in finding replacement standard parts). This cost cost a some £xxx too if (for various reasons) you pay to have your mods and parts removed.
Then you'd have to store the parts, sell your 'standard' car, try to find the right replacement Ed30, and then fit all the parts to the new car - hardly an overnight excercise....
Whereas, Alex at AKS will perform a K04 conversion on a GTI in about 8 hours :happy2:

Thats exactly what i was thinking about gareth! Sounds like wayyyy too much hassle.. Did you find the noise of the car changed going ko4 ie exhaust engine etc?
-
^ depends on your K03 state of tune imo.
Going from say K03 stg1 to K04 Stg 3 would be huge.
Maybe it's just me, but because the K04 is stronger, it does sound a little angrier on boost. You do notice the slightly longer spool time, but further thorugh the rev range it is so much stronger, and a much quicker overall car.
Plus, you get rid of the annoying squawking noise that people are commenting on in another thread :happy2:

How long does a ko4 conversion take labour? Do they need the car overnight?!

mine was running 361bhp at last dyno, sure others have had slightly more, but you wont get much more unless go down wmi route.
tbh, some will say 361bhp is too much anyway. certainly to get the best out of it apart from usual mods i have had to get a diff, linear throttle map and sticky tyres. the esp never comes on anymore unless ice or mud is in the mix, you can get the power down although not sure how long tyres will last :driver:

Same advice from me

6 hours max...you should give it to the tech cool though or the night before so they can get right on it.

I k04 my gti. Put the turbo and injectors on myself. It's a right pain in the arse. Took me a weekend on the driveway. Got a revo stage 3 map. Goes like stink. But now I need clutch and it is pushing the engine to its limits. Personally I wish I bought an ed30. It's a lot safer. Also I wish I had dsg as I wouldn't have to worry about clutch issue.
Don't get me wrong it drives lovely on part throttle round town and when foot down it flys. But it is a lot of work and money. And it's never going to be as safe as ed30.

Age old question, but are folk running mapped 04s on stock AXX conrods safely?

I had my AXX running K04 safely for 64.000km and ended up making app. 360bhp and 460nm on it, no worries :happy2:

I'm running US version rods(the poorest) with my K04...but true that there is a stronger remap if I upgrade the rods ;p
