Exhausts UK have loads of backbox designs, but I doubt they would get near to a V6 howl. You could ask though. :happy2:

....

I have to say I hate imitations. I shudder to think what exhaust sounds might be programmable in electric or silent cars of the future.

A silent car has no soul!!

I know someone who has a 1947 Hooper Rolls-Royce but it still makes some sound - An ultra deep rumbling - It's alive!

....Milltek have redesigned my backbox and it makes a different sound but still from a turbo'd 4-pot. There's surely a limit to how much you can change resonance from an unchangeable root sound.

APR, Blueflame, Milltek, etc all sound different but all 4-pot turbo sounds.

The V6 creates an off-beat burble that cant be created by a 4-pot.

So no chance im afraid.

It would be totally chavtastic if you did, because ive heard of companies that can fit a speaker system with various engine type sounds. Reminds me of the idiot in an MG ZR that i dusted, and he had fake turbo dump valve sounds lol.  :signLOL:

i remember seeing a tv prog a few years ago and the car on the show was fitted with a speaker inside the car and what else, this made the car something like a 1.4 sound like a v8 but only on the inside of the car.
i think it would be near impossible to make a 4pot sound like a v6 with an exhaust it would have to be a fake speaker kind of system i imagine

Ha "pimp my ride" they installed a sound system near the cat and had a monitor connected to the engine, they installed it on a people carrier and it was able to imitate GT40s, AM, Lambos etc

This is where you want to look mate but as people have said above its rather chavy, but each to there own and all that!!

I had an MKV R32 with added Milltek, and it sounded absolutely amzing, that was until I got the RS4 with added Milltek - For me the best sounding engine/exhaust in is class!  Back in a clattery four pot now, but at least it'll be a quick one!

Why didnt VW just make it 300bhp?

S3 competition?

I know it would have increased running costs and services but the GTI exists to offer 'value' hothatch fun, the 32 should be expensive.

And the Cayenne V6 is a VW powered unit, similar to the R units. So not a true V6 either.

So as i said

The VR6 isnt a true V6. Its barely even a V at all. Developed to fit into a hatchback sized car, instead of requiring more engine bay.

A V6 has 2 banks of 3 cylinders with 2 cylinder heads. A VR6 has i bank of 6 cylinders and 1 cylinder head.

Read the Wiki article, explains it better tbh.

The original Cayenne V6 Engine was the VR6 3.6 lump, but they have now changed it to the 3.0 V6 engine from the touareg, which is a 90 degree V6.  But they are both V6's even if the VR6 lump is a narrow angle - 15% I believe.  The only difference being the VR6 has a single cylinder head - very clever desgn to be fair.

1) You cannot make a 4-pot sound like a 6-cyl, FAIL
2) Porsche engines are not V6s, they are flat-six engines and have been since the war, FAIL
3) The VR6 - with, as Oli points out, a 15* v-angle - is more like an inline six than a true V6 with a 90* v-angle. This allows for a very compact 6-cylinder where a traditional inline 6 or V6 would not fit. The firing order is also more akin to an inline six than a V6. As such it is incorrect to consider the VR6 as a true "V" - more as a subset of "inline" 6. Volkswagen AG does have traditional V6 engines amongst its lineup though; the 3.6 V6 is a proper V engine as I recall. So, somewhat less, but still FAIL
4) I think we've covered everything.

It is more correct to regard it as an inline engine for the reasons I've stated above, and will reiterate - narrow gap between the cylinders is effectively a staggered inline, and the firing order is more similar to an inline, and it is not inherently unbalanced like a 90* V6; it is not a true V6 and it is more incorrect to regard it as such.
