I've got an orginal mark 5 CD player fitted. However, I had enough of making new CDs every week. Is their a way for me not to change my cd player, but connect my iPhone/iPod?

Yes but depending on your head unit you'll be limited to 6 playlists if you use the VW ipod kit.

Or use a non OEM eBay aux in jobby. Tricks the radio into thinking the aux in is a cd changer in the same way the Vw iPod kit does. Not limited to playlists etc then.
Circa £30.

Like this mate. Clicky (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-AUX-input-adapter-interface-3-5mm-jack-RCD300-RCD310-RCD500-RCD510-CTVVGX004-/321080991502/)
I had one exactly the same as this in my old Polo and it was faultless.

Not sure on costs, but if they know what they're doing it shouldn't take any more than 15-20 minutes. Infact, if that.
