Title: slow initial pick up in ed30 (1st gear)
Post by: GTIEd30 on May 28, 2013, 11:29:21 am
I've bought an edition 30 recently and one of the first things I noticed when I drove is that the initial pickup from first gear is noticeably slow....slower than a friends golf mk5 gti. once its over 2000 revs then its fine with the turbo kicking in.. Just wanted to know if this is normal ?
cheers. :happy2:

garrardrj, thanks for that... i was a bit worried there.. i take it the hissing sound(like tyre deflating) from the front is also suppose to happen when turbo comes in..?

If its hissing as your accelerating it may be your DV split!

Major impact on performance. Get it checked, it's at the front of the engine bay on an ED30 and very easy to remove

just to update on this:
I followed the link above which suggested to to remove the oil cap for a very brief moment as you don't want to screw up the pressure ..
I did this exactly as suggested, lifted the lid very briefly. and found the engine was behaving as expected ie revs increasing.. i gathered fro mthis that the pv is fine...
However shortly after this, when I started driving again, Engine emissions lights had come on and has been on since(3 days)....
I have no idea if the two are related...just wanted to ask if this could possible....

cheers

my 2.0 tdi the very same as this , its been remmaped but first in first gear it makes me think twice before pulling out at junctions think I going to get this looked into with the dv , never had a turbo car before so all abit odd to me but hit 2,000 rpm and she gone

Where in the uk are you? Maybe see if someone is close with vcds and they can scan for the error code

the whole 'pull out the dipstick/remove oil cap to check engine revs' test is to find out if the PCV is gubbed, not the DV. If your DV is split/torn, you will suffer a loss in power and possibly a hissing noise as the turbo is spooling

just thought id give an update on this:
vw55raz  from e london(nice bloke) vdcs registered owner came down and scanned my ed30. we found an error related to "system too rich in idle".
had it cleared and it hasnt come up since yesterday...
not sure what caused this but its a recently purchases car and I think it had been sitting around for a couple of months before this...this might be the cause..
in any case im clear of any dashboard lights.......for now!
cheers
