Title: Window motor not working
Post by: percy on May 31, 2013, 06:26:06 pm
Hi guys, has anyone ever had to change there motor or regulator as mine is knackered when I took the window down. I heard a terrible crunching noise then it packed in. I've tried to price a motor but can't find a supplier except main dealers or ebay. So can anyone help on locating one and how easy to fit. Thanks guys :happy2:

You'll need to remove the door skin. Look in the "how to" thread for a guide.

Try a scrapyard. Is a new one from vw prohibitively expensive?

I've repaired a few VW & Audi window regulators over the past few years; my last Audi A6 front passenger side window failed which was down to the plastic guide clips breaking up and jamming in the regulator and also a pal's Golf IV with a similar problem.  Your window motor may not have actually failed - something has jammed the window glass, could be a broken clip or cable. The motor has a themal cut out and clutch to prevent damage.  There are repair kits available from various ebay companies and I've a feeling VW sell a repair kit too.  They definitely sold updated plastic guides which attach to the window glass and the new ones I bought had a metal insert which made them more reliable.
