I bought my 06 plate golf GTI around a month ago, today i received the V5 through for it and on the V5 it states that the car is a golf gt fsi?
I am confused by this, I am almost 100% certain that its a GTI, there are a few manufacturer stickers under the boot carpet stating its a GTI, the handbook also has a sticker stating its a GTi although the handbook is in dutch which confused me.
Is there any certain way of checking if the car is a GTI bar a rolling road ?
Thanks

you could ring your local VW dealer and give them the VIN number. their computer will give the vehicle details.
-
Comes back as a gt on my car check I hope it's not a ringer!
-
Everything seems tto coincide with a GTI is there any chance it was improperly registered ? Will need to contact VW to bottom this out
-
Not trying to be funny here! did you not check the V5 before handing over the cash. :chicken: or is it after it has been sent away it came back different. More than likley sounds like an import with the log book details entered wrong.

YIkes, any pics of engine etc./
-
Checked log book all seemed fine, dont have a pic of the engine as im at work but its the standard fsi cover which ive seen on all the gti's has everything relates to the gti. Its had 1 female owner before me and the car was on mobility i was told certainly had a disability tax fisc on when i bought it, was bought from a reputable dealer. Im certain there has just been an issue with the log book. Just hopin to het this bottomed out

BWA engine code... = GTI!
-
I thought that, just weird that it is registered as a GF fsi ?
-
looks like a GTI. Make 100%, no wait 1,000,000% sure your insurance knows its a GTI.
-
For comparison, this was my Golf 2.0 GT FSI:

It is a 150ps normally aspirated 2.0 FSI and side by side looks nothing like a GTI!
Was a fantastic car but not as fantastic as the Pirelli! :jumpmove:
I would definitely be inclined to believe that the Docs are wrong - not the car.
-
the only thing i was querying for was incase they had changed everything to make it look like a GTi. But it does look as though the docs are wrong how i don't know lol.
Im pretty sure that its 200bhp, just seems to pull like a train compared to the TDi (170 bhp) i test drove.
Checking my insurance as well they have it down as GT fsi !! phoning first thing tomorrow to get the model changed doesn't look as thought the price will fluctuate any, well fingers crossed.
-
Defo a GTI with the right engine code, as someone else said just make sure it's insured as such, easy for these price comparison sites to grab the wrong data from the number plate. :happy2:

Thanks for all the help :D
Contacted VW and they have told me there has been a mistake whilst registering the vehicle, it was an import from the netherlands but was first registered in the UK. I have to take the V5 to sales and admin and explain and she said they will take the V5 get it amended and send a new one out.
However on contacting my insurance company he refused to change the car over to a GTi as on the logbook it says its a GT fsi, he contacted the underwriter (apparently) and they stated that as long as the log book matches then they wont change it, I then explained how it may look like i have modified the car and changed the engine but the guy was adamant and would not change it. He said he will put my call in writing against my policy stating that I have called up and tried to change the policy should anything happen.
I am very uncertain about this so will be getting the logbook changed and giving them another call, the info from the insurance company seems a bit flimsy.

Ask for that in writing.

That insurance sounds really iffy.
Have you tried other insurance companies to see what they say?
When I got my GTI I went with the insurance that VW offered - I thought it would be expensive but turned out £50 a year less than the cheapest reasonable quote I had. Might be worth giving them a call.
