Having read this review I thought I'd give it a blast as its start at Pentrefoelas is about 9 miles from where I am staying in Wales.
http://www.greatestdrivingroads.com/great_roads/The_Evo_Triangle.html
All I can say is I was left thoroughly underwhelmed with it. The best section of the road is without doubt the A543. If the whole triangle had been like that then it would have been a better drive.
But still certainly not what I would call one of the greatest driving roads. The scenery isn't stunning either. I'll get some pics of the A5 going towards Bethesda. Now that is stunning scenery and a great driving section of road.
All in all if you are nearby then fine drive it. Don't expect much different from most other A/B roads in the UK. Certainly don't go out of your way to drive it.
I'd rate it a 4/10. The guy that wote the review above needs a slap :fighting:

thanks for the review. tbh i don't think i'd go out of my way anywhere in the UK for a good drive. i just feel that a "good drive" is likely to be ruined by weather, roadworks, slow moving traffic, bad drivers etc. i would definitely like to go on a driving holiday to Europe, maybe do a few laps of the 'Ring and some time on the Autobahn, but i don't think there's anywhere in the UK that would actually be worth the effort/petrol.
Please someone correct me if I'm wrong. I'd love to be

I love the roads from Betws past the Devils kitchen, Tryfan, Glyders etc. In the winter it gets a bit interesting (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kDF41nTJuk) up there though :driver:
-
Which roads are those? I am staying near Betws-y-Coed so may have driven some of them.
-
Think you've already mentioned it, it's on the way to Bethesda via the A5, map (https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=betws+y+coed&daddr=bethesda,+north+wales&hl=en&ll=53.131942,-3.989582&spn=0.083012,0.175095&sll=46.025065,-40.46233&sspn=49.140951,89.648438&geocode=FUH1KQMdA6vF_ymlZUfiOA5lSDFJ3V4Zno3vOw%3BFS9yKwMdLxHC_ynPe2tnaAZlSDHBsXxOlwh54w&t=h&mra=ls&z=13)
You can always drop over the start of the Pyg / Miners track of Snowdon, that's an interesting road at speed :rolleye: loads of very tight turns and lots of concentration required.
Over course it's good to get out of the car round there too... I especially like the Tryfan, Glyders, Devils Kitchen walk, and Y Garn if your feeling fit. pic (http://tinypic.com/r/2lv068j/5) You can see the A5 in red on the map.

I won't have a problem walking any of the routes. It's my wife and 1yr old son that might do
-
Drop tony Danza a pm, sure he has done a few jolly drives around Wales.
-
I did it a while ago and like you so many better roads about
-
Would it be possible to come up with our own GTI triangle? Or maybe even a list of good driving roads?

It's evo triangle due to the evo mag testing on that route
-
I live by there and we always go around them roads on Sunday, some of the best B roads around up there
-
It's an amazingly technical bit of road once you know it enough to go fast, a real test of all aspects of a car's handling - but as for scenic, no.
I think it's entered into some kind of Stelvio/Transfagarasan/Col De Turini mythology, which it doesn't deserve. Good if you're in the area, not something I'd travel to especially.
If you've got a day, then do something like this...

A57 Snake Pass is a great road IMO. Much better than the EVO triangle. A82 from Inverness over Loch Ness is good too. :driver:

Get it done then, well worth it too. Also if you head North of Inverness towards Ullapool the roads are great too! :happy2:

I wouldn't even say it was that technical. That's what I was expecting and it wasn't which is why I posted up. Not about the scenery. I'm no Jenson Vettel either but I was still able to drive quick enough to make the wife sick without going over the NSL
Maybe I need to go and drive it again on my own and i'll have a different view.

Next time try buzy lizzies in Skipton. Fish and chips and a cup of tea!
-
I'll see that and raise you Brett's in Headingley, Leeds. The missus lived just near it when at Uni and they're the best I've had. Fried in beef dripping FTW.
-
I had some fish and chips in Bridlington once.
Cooked in Beef dripping and a real shock for this shandy drinking southerner. Very good though.
-
I'll see you all and raise you the Mermaid chippy in Barmouth
