Just been trying to read up on the differences between the AXX (early) and BWA (late) GTI engines. It appears that there is quite a power difference. When i had the engine cover off earlier, i noticed that my engine code was BWA. Which is good, in theory it should be closer to 217bhp, rather than 197bhp stock figures, according to all the sites.
Anyone else had a standard BWA dyno'd? Do they make more power than the earlier AXX engines?
Can anyone also tell me definitively what the major differences between the 2 are? As there is conflicting information.

Both engines are rated at 147kW!
The difference iirc boils down to the emission Euro rating, the bwa engine having a higher rating than the AXX one.
-
LOL is that all? The difference is Euro 3 or Euro 4 compliancy?
I guess this thread is total BS then? :signLOL:

It would make sence i have the bwa code and made 242 on a rolling road with standard map but with all the stage 2+ bolt ons and I couldn't believe they had made 42bhp increase on a standard Vw map!!!! Now if they were 217 then 20hp increase might not be so crazy...
