Title: vcds coding for new radio
Post by: karl210 on July 26, 2013, 09:02:15 am
My car came with a rcd500 radio which i swapped out for an aftermarket one. Last week this broke but i sold the rcd500 but i had my old rcd300 from my previous car in the loft so ive put that in for a while but im getting a fault code saying its incorrectly coded and that all the speakers have an open circuit. I didnt have this problem before even with the aftermarket stereo. It all works fine except its really bassy and its doing my head in. Where will i find the correct coding? thanks

Did your car originally come with the VW sound pack option i.e. ten speakers with separate amp under the front passenger's seat?

Sounds, sorry for the pun  , like you need to let the gateway know in the installation list that the sound pack amp is there. You will need use of a vcds cable or vas software to check.

I have a similar issue.  I have fitted an after market single din stereo.

No issues with it not working. Just that I get a fault code because the original radio controller cannot be reached.

Not sure how to change the code as the controller cannot be accessed to tell the car it no longer has the oem stereo

Try running vcds> select>19-Can Gateway>installation list. address 47 should be checked if you have the sound pack.

Mike in your install list have you unchecked address 56 for Radio?

Address 47 was ticked. I changed the speaker coding to 0 passive speakers instead of 4 passive speakers and its got rid of all the speaker open circuit fault codes, and i ticked a radio antenna box and its got rid of the incorrectly coded radio fault code but it doesnt sound any different, oh well looks like il have to get saving
