HI,im sure most people have seen the golf ed30 im on about but what are peoples views on cat d cars? baring in mind i would be to keep the car for a few years hopefully
Its on 56k and he wants 9k originally but managed to get him down to 8k i hope what are these worth?
-
Depends on the damage. Ive seen some cars with very light damage and been a cat D. I personally wouldn't mind a cat d if the damage was light. Just stay away from a cat C. I had a polo cat c once and it was falling apart!

My opinion is that you get the car for good money when u purchase it but when it's time to sell it be VERY hard to sell on..
-
There was an ed30 with 69k for £8.7k not Cat D in great nick the other day, I know which I'd prefer... :happy2:
-
You need a VERY good price to make it worth the hassle later on. £8k isn't even a good price.
-
Or buy my lovely Edition30! :happy2:
-
Just don't do it unless your willing to wait months to sell it and willing to accept silly cheap money. Save some more money and get a high spec GTI or a good condition Eddy that's got a few miles on the clock.
:happy2:
-
End of the day catD is catD so u won't even get half the money back
-
Don't do it , Cat D puts off 99% of buyers .
Spend the money on a good one , it will remain Cat D forever , or try to get them to get it inspected and removed , costs them quite a bit though .
-
£8k for a 56 reg cat D is a joke more like £7k or less really there some edition 30 on eBay at minute for £9k mark
-
i know ive read and read forums about it :/ and im without a car at the moment so when i get back off holiday in a week i need a car i was just gonna get a gti but then people say to save for an eddy..ive only got around 8k and at very push and thats borrowing abit off money..
I just cant be bothered with going down the route off buying a gti and then selling that and losing money and having to save more to get an eddy..
i would happily but a gti and replace the turbo with a ko4,s3 injectors etc etc but then this is why people say buy and eddy but im sure you can do it plenty cheaper :)
sorry about being long winded and thanks for the input
This was the car http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2007-VOLKSWAGEN-GOLF-GTI-EDITION30-DSG-230-SA-WHITE-/251311801233?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item3a8359c391

You actually selling yours?
thanks
-
Defo opt eddy but don't go rushing to buy just any car. cat d puts of most buyers look on pistonheads, autotrader, eBay, gumtree, google edition 30 for sale as well I waited near on a year to find mine there out there just got be willing to wait. You may need a car but are you willing to waste £8k on the wrong car. Doesn't even explain why car cat d in advert
-
this was his reply.. Hi there. Mileage is 57567. It's was damages on the front passenger corner. It was my mates car. I brought it off him. He fixed it. The car is mint. I'm not just saying it. Come and have a look. Or ring me. Thanks Nathan
There so much more though and i dont have that type off money :/
and ive been looking for over a year ha but then wrote my audi a3 off couple off weeks ago so thats knocked 2grand out my pocket :/
All off the eddys i have seen are dsg aswell :/
-
Patients mate lol it looks nice yes there is an 08 black one lower miles better condition for less money on cat d. Got to scan everywhere and find the right car not buy it cause need a car. Honest mate worth the wait unless you can get it for £7k ;-)
-
Yeh i have seen that one too..and that's not the reason because they is plenty off GTI for cheaper but dont know if it will be better to buy a decent gti and just spec it up to 350bhp over time..or buy an eddy
I tried 7k!! haha
They was one on here a while ago for that price i wish i had that one now!!
I really do miss driving :( and i kinda need one soon because i have to take my girlfriend to hospital for a quite major operation and she cant drive for a couple off weeks :/ so we would be buggered
-
Get insured on her car "BINGO" she not going to need it ;-). It's defo eating for an edition have a search on here
-
Eating for an edition? And that's my problem my max is 8k and that's borrowing money that I don't want to do and might not happy so might have to settle for a Gti :( and my gfs car is an Audi a5 black edition and I don't think she would let me or her parents ha!
-
Haha oh dear maybe not then. Go see it go through the car properly making sure you miss nothing make sure there no horrible hidden secrets.

haha no :( and im unsure know.. i just havent got 10k to spend on a car :/
so might have to get a decent gti and build from that
-
If your set on that eddy go see it. Does look nice and its candy white take £7500 might come home with it

Its not me set on one as such its everyone else who says to save up and buy one ..
i would happily buy the gti and when the turbo fails or i get bored uprate that aswell as other things
But i just cant save up that amount off money in a short time and with me needing a car lol ( i earn £720 a month ha)
Do you think that would still be a reasonable price if everything else checked out? i would be keeping it for a few years but would i get peanuts for when i sold it?
Thanks
-
Get a standard GTI, its a great car and you'll love it.
Avoid that Cat D Eddy, its NOT worth it and its not worth the hassle down the line. As for the price (come sale time), you'll be able to sell it but it will be for peanuts, someone will buy it somewhere if the price is low enough.

Or buy my lovely Edition30! :happy2:
You actually selling yours?

Yes,it's not a Cat 'D' been well looked after 63k on the clock with FSH T+T till April next year, sach's clutch,MK6 steering wheel,Eibach Pro kit,Walk kit still on the car.5 door Grey Manual. :happy2:

Think I will have to get a cheaper Gti and mod it :) and true I really would like one because it will save me a lot off modding but owell nothing is easy lol

-
Do you have any pictures?
I may settle for a 3 door decent spec Gti and mod to about 280bhp and see how I feel then wait for an eddy to drop in price or something..
Any tips for going (stage 3) in a Gti
Ko4
Injectors
Fmic etc..
Has anybody seen any lately as I've not sen many performance mods for sale lately
Thanks very much for the help

It has been put back to stock on the outside, the alloy's will stay the colour they are now, this is the full spec.
Sach's clutch and dual mass flywheel fitted only 9 month's ago.
Eibach pro kit.
Mk6 GTI MFSW steering wheel.
Tint's.
WALK kit.
As well as the normal Edition 30 spec it has.
MFD2 navigation unit.
6 disc cd changer in glove box.
Highline cluster with menu button.
It has full service history 63K(last service carried out in March this year) on the clock, cam belt was changed at 52k,Cam follower was changed a few month's ago as well as a new battery last month,no expense spared at all with regard's to maintaining this fantastic car and it drive's spot on with no rattle's or knock's and pull's well through all the gear's! :happy2:
-
This is what it look's like with the steering wheel but the standard Navigation unit has been fitted now as the pic show's the Alpine which has been taken out.

all the controls work still?
is it just the standard oe clutch not an uprated one?
is it completely standard power wise?
and looks really nice and im not a fan off 5 door i really want a 3 door but for such a great car i might have to compromise and rob a bank or somthing ha!
cheers
-
Yes all control's work as they should do,the clutch is an uprated Sach's(one that is one step up from the normal sach's) which cost me around £950 to buy and fit(was bought from a forum group buy on here!),it's completely standard power wise and is ready to be mapped as I only had it mapped for around 4 week's before it started to lose power but it was diagnosed as a problem with the Intake flap motor which is a common problem and this was fitted only last week and everything is running perfect,it's never wanted for anything and I take great pride in my car's.It's raedy to go and does'nt need a penny spending on it but i'm in no rush to sell but will trade it in if the right car come's along,a shame really as it will be nice to sell to someone who will really look after it.
-
Cat d is is when the damage is over 40% of the value of the car cat c is 50%-60, my dads freind worked for a crash repair place and i got hold of a couple of cracking cars cat d, but they were repaired to a good standard and honestly couldnt tell any difference theres so many around due to crash for crash ! Almost all front end /rear end shunts depends on the quality of repair and will struggle selling id bye sanjs 100% lovly car
-
Thank's mate, just hope somebody buy's my Edition30 as I don't want to trade it in but nobody seem's to have any money!

So will be plenty strong enough for a stage two remap :) was the clutch slipping then! Car only had 50k ha
And I would so much rather buy off somebody off the forum when you can tell somebody has put the time and money into there car and think people seem to trust more with a forum :)
What do garages offer for trade in I can't imagine it being much :o
And true nobody has any money and I just have bad luck with cars having to pay out for things that look fine when I buy it and don't earn mega bucks to be able to shell out the amount people are wanting :( and can't be botherd buying something half hearted and not enjoy owning it
But I do really like yours and I'm not that keen on 5doors ;)
-
Hi I've been offered £8.1k so far from carcraft but know its got to be worth more than that!like I've said I'm probably rushing to sell which I know I shouldn't do but I'm in the lucky position to buy,but if it doesn't sell I'll hold onto it until the right car turns up and make a loss by trading it in.It was only mapped for less than 1000 miles!
-
Oh okay that is a bit off a stump and yeh you do what's best for you anyway :)
I wish I was that lucky to be able to buy what I want without worrying ha
