Whats the cheapest way to get a spare key together? Its a 2005 Mk5 golf gti :happy2:

Get the right blank key with the correct frequency, buy the rfid transponder chip, get the key cut and code it using vcds.
If you don't have vcds, borrow a friends.
All in mine came just under £40. I think at dealers its around £160.

I thought this was something that couldn't be done through vagcom as it requires a code which not even the dealers can give you these days.
How do you know what frequency the key is to be able to get a duplicate?

You need the SKC code. The OP has a 2005 reg so can be easily read using vag commander. The frequency iirc is printed on the current remote fob when you take it apart.
