Title: MK5 GOLF UNDER CAR PLASTiC DAMAGE
Post by: chakatee on September 13, 2013, 12:35:10 am
MK5 Golf GT TDi 2004
Hope someone can help.
Heard a crunch from underneath my car. Looked underneath and found that some of the undercar protective plastic has been damaged. It's a part of plastic about a 1ft away from the rear wheel over on the right-hand side. Some blue cables are exposed (assume they are brake cables).
Does anyone know the cost to replace the plastic cover?
Other than scrap yard, any other supplier of these plastic covers.
Anyone have part numbers for these?
Is there any risk in not repairing it?
Thanks

Could you take a photo of the part and location.

As long as the part is not too damaged you should be able to see the part number on it.

I had a similar thing happen on a motorway that smashed my long TDI undercarriage covers.
They are easily replacable, the studs are in the chassis and the covers come with integrated plastic nuts to tighten on these studs.

They are about £40 from a dealer or TPS. Don't waste time with used as most have cracks.
To put it in perspective, I just bought an R32 engine sump cover from a dealer and it was cheaper than buying a damaged one on ebay.

Pretty sure the blue cables as you call them are going to be fuel.

Buy the replacement units as Skard said. That being said I never had to replace them and I run low and scrape them all the time XD

... I run low and scrape them all the time XD

Same   :sad1: :stupid: Anything raised requires real thought to tackle, gone are the days of straddling them either side in the GTI

Mines cracked and shattered in parts but still 90% or so intact. I'd replace it if Audi didn't want £70 for a new one  :ashamed:
