Title: What's the limit!?
Post by: GtiMaxi on September 13, 2013, 06:04:30 pm
Been shopping around for a custom remap, rs tuning look promising but iv been offered one for 350 pounds that gives me 70bhp, am I right in thinking that's the kinda dodgey work that blows turbo's up and snaps drive shafts?

The car is as good as standard at the moment

RS mainly do Renaults and Vauxhalls - So they are not a VAG specialist. If your in Yorkshire like me, head down to stattlers in Sheffield.

And yes - 70bhp for a map seems a bit over the top mate. 35-55bhp

+2 on r-tec,did my ed30 & it was really awesome..if they could remap a golfR I would go to them again,no doubt about that but due to r-tec only having a fwd Dyno, they wouldn't map it..settled for GIAC in the end

They can do Golf R's and now do the dsg for them too.

I know its a different engine, but when i asked if they would remap my MK6 GTI they said they are only doing the 2.0l FSI and the 1.8T. I know if you have the business for them and you have the perfect mapping technique then keep doing it. But the MK6 has been out for 4-5 years now. Surely it time to move on to it and get a grip of it.

So ended up going with Bluefin (which to be fair has been a decent map) Still wish i could have taken to R-Tech   :sad1:

Niki only realise recently he's been a wally turning down Golf R's, not realising its same engine as S3

He's mapping them now

Aren't all the post 2009 ECU's locked now Rich?

I could be wrong but I know mine was (CR 170 2010 A3).
I think the rule is if it's a tri-core ECU then it will certainly be 'locked'.

That said, I think Alex (AKS) managed to map mine without doing a full break on the lock but I appreciate that's a very high level noddy description  :ashamed:

My Scirocco R 2010 was locked. When Regal mapped it for me it was the first that they had done in the country, they had to take the ecu out of the car. their counterparts in Germany connected to it over the internet and I guess they hacked it to bypass the encryption. They also managed to flash it without increasing the flash count which was nice for the old warranty ;). Mind you it took them 8 hours!! Before they took the ecu out, they flashed it, dynod it, turned off the ignition and the ecu reset itself to stock.

R-tech is the way to go, even at that distance.

Fit the Rev G Diverter valve before your map.

HAd mine done at R-tech, went in with just an intake and ran 193bhp and 222ftlb.... left with issues but ran 232bhp and 286ftlbs nik said it was poor and said he thought the turbo was cracked... it turns out my turbo was cracked    :sad1:  Statllers in sheffield fitted me a new borg warner K03 and all was UNBELIEVABLE. Went to the Charity rolling road day and my car ran 267bhp and 324ftlbs... at stage one!! no other modifications, no fuel additives.

R-tech are in a different league! :happy2:
