Title: Brad Gill Mk5 Golf GTI Roxy
Post by: Brad Gill on September 30, 2013, 08:55:49 pm
Well after owning my first car a Fiat Punto mk2 1.2 16v 6speed decided to sell it and buy a MK5 GTI. Really impressed so far. I am the 2nd owner from new. Car is Silver at the moment soon be changing as i am a Panel Beater and spray painter to trade. Choosing the colour is the next big choice. For the mean time while i wait for my V5 Document. Going to give it a service. So when i can take it out for the first time it will be perfect.

Future Plans
. Re-Spray
. R32 Rear Bumper
. Miltek Exhuast
. New Alloys BBS
. Not sure what else the future brings

Picture of my punto after 4 years of ownership

Here are some quick photos of the first day i got the car sorry for low quality taken from my mobile. Better High Resolutions are to follow

First job i decided to do was re-paint the red calipers as they looked a bit dull.

Finished off painting my calipers on the OS. Still have the NS to do. While the car was jacked up i removed the diverter valve as ive heard these are bad for failing. Guess it needs replaced!. Should i buy the uprated valve. I will leave a link to one on ebay im thinking of buying.

New Diverter Valve

I went for a OEM VW Rev G DV valve (replacing my forge one). You can get 'uprated' ones but the Rev G is perfectly fine.

The different revisions just refer to the changes VW have made. So D is upgraded to E as VW changed some part of it. The DV valve failed in a few golfs becuase they had old versions, but VW revised it and came up with Revision G - part no: 06F 145 710 G

As above, I believe OEM+ is the best look for MK5s, but it's your car :happy2:

Car is now back on her feet. Calipers painted. Oil and filter changed. Shampoo the interior. Thought i would restore the lens on the standard GTI Headlights while i wait for the projectors to arrive. Some wet and dry paper and my machine buff with cutting compound brought them up a treat  :happy2: then it had to start to rain!  :sad1:

Nice new upgrade to my Golf Today. Pair of xenon Projector Headlights. Hardest part of the install was trying to diconnect the wiring harness of the back of the lights. Other than that it was pretty straight forward. Ballast screwed down underneath the headlights for a clean job.

Any pics of the ballasts and where you've mounted them under the lights? I fancy getting these for mine and a pic of the install would be good  :happy2:

I mounted the ballasts underneath where the Original VW ballast would go with double sided numberplate tape. Then screwed a decoder box onto one of the original holes for the VW Ballast. 22mm holes was drilled for the gromit on the back of the headlight

Have a little update. Decided to refurbish and paint my alloys. Painted the centres black with a graphite on the face off the alloy. New VW centre caps to finish them off. My R32 rear bumper arrived today. So will need to paint that and get the exhaust made up. Can get a full custom made from cat back for £300.

Here are a few Pictures

They are Depo. Not original. Not had a single problem with them. Give out exact same light ouput possibly better as i have the 6000K HID installed. Just need to get white sidelight bulbs.

Little update. Decided to modify my wing mirrors and fit some Puddle lights. ALL works a treat and very bright.

Stripped the wing mirror down
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fff158%2FBG-Grafix%2FIMAG1205_zpsd0f11aaf.jpg&hash=5ac8b2de4169fa0154fc7672dfb678dc9376809d)

Drill a hole in the bottom using a hole saw
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fff158%2FBG-Grafix%2FIMAG1204_zps125f53d3.jpg&hash=3606d8454d42405640ee5dd6bf7b9db7c8132570)
Glued a sheet of clear Perspex on the inside to protect the LEDS from water
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fff158%2FBG-Grafix%2FIMAG1202_zps26de3b41.jpg&hash=c4f2674246c991912691019212724f11aa188b37)
Final result. Simple but effective. I know i could have bought the Puddle Lights of ebay. But my wing mirrors dont have the guide at the bottom also wasnt much space underneath. So went with 24 SMD Panel each wing mirror. Wired the SMD panels via the footwell Lights.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fff158%2FBG-Grafix%2FIMAG1207_zps867bd1fb.jpg&hash=c8c3e3f952d44047610044935eb8aa735e716ad9)

Today was the first day of the Re Spray. Went pretty good for a days work considering I have been on my own. Gave the golf a good wash outside and inside all the checks make sure all dirt and grease is removed. Jacked it up and began the strip down. Following the strip down started some repairs. Rust on wings (Foam inside the wings causes this) few door dings. New wings should arrive tomorrow and Sunday hopefully get the shell painted. Will upload more photos of the progess but oviously be black and white photos until I have fully finished  :signLOL:

Thanks its (Porsche- Championship grey) I was going to go for Dolphin Grey but I liked the Porsche colour. I was originally going white, then i thought nearly every golf is white. Then i was thinking Rising Blue, But most R32 are blue. So thought if im going to the extent of a full respray may as well do it a colour that is completely unique. Here a mobile photo of the car in natural day light. Looks different in different lights.

Colour looks ace Brad, works for me!  :happy2:

I thought at a glance through the pics you were gonna' say Suzuka Grey, it's very similar - another classy VAG group colour.

The de-badged rear + exhaust setup is superb, this cars "got A$$"

come on Brad, why did you lie....I thought most people on here were honest. To say you have spent that much on your car and you tried to rip me off over £3.50, and then not to message me and say "Sorry fella, I made a mistake", its just wrong.   :fighting:
