For plug in/out the 12v socket on my daughter's new V-Dub Polo (and no, I'm not going to modify it!!.... She won't let me).
Which do you think is best and why, please?
Many Thanks :happy2:

Tomtom
Easiest to use. Has a less confusing interface and the maps look better.

Perhaps not a true plug and play unit but I use TomTom on my Iphone4 most days, It's very easy and straight forward to use. The maps are excellent and clear. The other thing is that you will always have it with you not tucked away in the glove box for some little scrote to nick as he will be looking for the sucker mark on the windscreen that tells him you have one tucked away :happy2:
Just Another option for you.
Oh and nice to see you back Red....

Thanks, guys :happy2:
She has an iPhone 4 (and iOS 7 installed) so that is another option for her to choose.
I have already advised her about never leaving it in her car.
So that's TomTom 2 vs Garmin 0 so far.

We've just returned home courtesy of a TomTom Go 400. It's the latest interface and absolutely brilliant and perfect for her needs. We saw demonstrations of all models from both TomTom and Garmin.
She paid for it and she's well pleased and so am I!

.........make shure she also removes the carrier & any trace from the screen if mounted there as well. Bas***ds break in & search the glovebox etc to see if left in there. :happy2:

RR- how comes you have one valeo and one standard rear light on your golf?
The polo looks nice :)

Hi RR
Here's an idea. I've got an iPhone 4S and have NavFree on it. Its free satnav software. Download from the App Store. It works very well indeed - I used the US version on honeymoon last year and the Canadian mapping is spot on in Vancouver. It works great in UK. Its not as beautiful or graphically perfect as TomTom or Garmin but its...Free! See how your daughter gets on with a phone based Nav system first; if she likes it she'll definitely like the paid-for versions. Remember, all the Nav data is basically the same, just different graphics and menu's.
Hope you find the right one.

....The latest TomTom Go 400 has its own foldaway mount and so no separate carrier but removing trace of the single ring sucker from the windscreen is wise advice.
I have already advised her not to leave it in the glovebox anyway and she usually carries a 'sensible size' shoulder bag.

....Thanks, PR. She already bought the TomTom GO 400 yesterday and we both really love it. Graphics/User Interface is everything and it's very much what scored over the Garmin. Plus the GO 400 includes free lifetime updates, Lane Assist, and wireless data from her iPhone if needed.
She didn't want the option of using an App on her iPhone for SatNav.

^ It really is an excellent interface (said with my pro graphic designer's hat on)

RR- how comes you have one valeo and one standard rear light on your golf?
....A while ago someone on the forum was going to convert the inner Valeo units to have LEDs instead of remaining just cosmetic. It never happened and my OEM inners were a 'temporary' measure which has become permanent as one of my Valeo inners got broken.
Ideally I would like a Mk5 R32 or GTI Ed30 pair of inners to match the darker Valeo outers but understandably no-one wants to sell them separately. I'm not too bothered.
EDIT: Btw, well spotted!

How about some red tint spray?

How about some red tint spray?
....Isn't that going to look like a paint spray? Masking an exact circle accurately would be beyond my skills.

Cheapest tomtom with free map updates

....Looks very low because friend BIALI Boy Dan lowered it in Photoshop. He was making it 'en famille' with mine. Modding it is not something she's at all inclined to do. It's a surprsingly good car for being just a 1.2 and 3-cylnders. In fact the 3-cylinder sound when driving is more attractive than many average 4-cylnder cars I've heard. It's not at all intrusive yet you can hear the engine as a driving aid. I absolutely hate silent marshmallow cars!
