Title: H&R Roll Bars: what are the negatives?
Post by: GS WAX on October 24, 2013, 10:52:47 am
Curious as to the negative experiences (if any)owners have had after fitting.

Im contemplating having H&R's fitted to my factory suspension'd ed30, i have read all about the positive improvement in body control, however have read nothing regarding a downside... ie.  more crashy or increased nvh.

Also comparisons between the two diff size H&R offerings would be welcome.
Thanks

I should add these will be for street use only.

When I had my ED30 it was the first suspension mod I had done and can honestly say that it made a massive difference over the OEM ARBs. Zero downsides apart from the cost to fit. :happy2:

Some people have had issues with creaking, but mine were ok.

I also had it on my ed30...I'm so impressed with it that I also did the same to my golfR

x 3, I've taken them off my A3 ready to put on the Mk5, were perfect with the KWs, 0 downsides again apart from labour cost, rear you can fit yourself, you need a ramp to do the front

Cheers Guys,

Looks like I will def get these then :happy2:the reviews say the H&R are creak free, my worry was that they introduced some sort of noise that I didn't like.

What size combo Bars did you all have?

Are these worth buying for road use? or do you guys track?

I don't have the knowledge nor means to fit these myself, any ideas on labour at a garage?

I supply and fit tons of these bars. Use them on my own cars too.  Never had an issue.  Had kw 26/23mm bars previously and switching to the H&R bars improved the handling even more.

1.5 hours to fit them isn't long.

Get them ordered my man...1.5 hrs turns into 2.5 with chatting time, but atleast you don't get dirty hands working on my heap.

The only negative is not having them...or at least the rear arb is a must ;p

I believe thats the best. Too stiff on the front and you can end up with understeer, which you dont want.

The front wheels can skitter over mid-corner bumps, too, which you don't want when cornering! I had both bars and the front lower arms poly bushed at the same time which tightens up the steering nicely.

Bit of a noobish question, but you would you run these with stock suspension? Currently got H&R 20-25mm springs which im thinking of taking off and resorting to stock springs, as the tyres rub with any amount of hard corning

Some people have had issues with creaking, but mine were ok.

Hurdy, I thought you had the AutoTech items on the Ed30? I can't decide between Autotech and H&R at the moment.

He did have Autotech on the ED30.  The front bar snapped on the car they were then fitted to after the ED30.  That car is now on H&R's and the Autotech bars went in the bin.

The brackets and bushes are a tad pants on the Autotech.
