Title: Winter tyres & wheels fitted today ...... report
Post by: Jonathon555 on November 08, 2013, 06:05:43 pm
Well after buying a reasonably cheap set of BBS monza 18" rims off ebay & getting them poweder coated matt black for £18 each. They have finally been fitted to the car today with the cheap £65 each 225/40/18 Nexen wingaurd sport ( korean) winter tyres.

The car normally runs Pescaras with Dunlop Sport Maxx All round

Temp today 7 to 9 deg c, roads a touch greasy / wet

I was not expecting much at all from the Nexen tyres , was thinking that the car would handle more akin to a captain birdseye trawler ! But thats is not what happened , the ride is slightly more supple / soft but there is still plenty of grip.
Pushed the car on down a few A / B roads and it gripped well , braked well.

In 2nd gear there was wheel spin ,but just the same amount as the Dunlop.

This is a suprise to me as I normally expect tyres from the far east(excluding premium brands) to be worrying at best. But maybe things are improving. 7/10 for these Nexen tyres

Our Ed30 just needs to be able to get to the shops and back over winter for he wife, so these will do just fine. If i was doing alot of miles i would opt for a premium winter tyres as i have done in the past.

The price is crazy good, I'd love to try these back to back vs 830P's or UG8P's --- I'm quite tempted to buy some just to try, but it's a bit extravagant for sh*ts and giggles.., especially when the Golf is bound to need a new part before May 14.

I hope they do as well as your expecting when required. :happy2:

They seem to be a real good price seem to be having issues tho! Did you have to register to the site first?

Keeps saying to me I'm only allowed one tyre etc? Strange!

Looking at the ratings of these, they are rated at F for fuel economy and rain (well its a cloud with rain spots) on the diagram. My fk452s are rated better so i think il just them for winter!

Fk452s are my old summer tyres that i bought 6months ago but as im low, they used to catch on 8s and 9s. Bought new falken 914s (i think) in a smaller width. But as my winters are 18x7.5 ET51 i shouldnt catch.
