Title: Ebay - Dispute over RCD510
Post by: Ant.W28LKR on November 15, 2013, 10:12:02 am
Guy's i bought a RDC510 at the end of last week. It now turns out it's a Chinese copied version that doesn't have rds? (it's not displaying the radio station names) The seller is refusing to take it back, never once in his advert did he state it was a copy but he was aware of it because he knew the station names weren't coming up.

His advert heading was "UK VW RDC510 WITH CODE"

see - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231085393326?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

I've had to open a dispute claim against him. I feel he has deliberately mislead the buyer (Me) And the item i thought i was buying isn't the item i received. simply due to the fact he's avertised it as a "UK VW RCD510" when infact it's a Chinese copied version.  Has anybody had to do this? if so how did you get on?  Ebay have said nothing on the matter so far.  I'm kinda worried that EBay will do nothing about it.

Yeah well that's what I'm hoping.  The fact he's put uk vw rcd510  when Infact it's a Chinese model is hopefully enough for eBay to get me a refund.   I've submitted pictures of the unit with the Chinese label and seal tag on the rear of the thing.  Said it will take up to 8 days before eBay look into it.  Arrrrgghhh.

Whilst I feel that he's misled you with the 'UK' label, it doesn't seem like a bad final price imo.

Hope you get things sorted and ebay correctly resolves this asap  :happy2:

I would suggest you suggest to ebay that they look at his purchase history and i think you will find that he bought this via ebay in the past , ebay will be able to prove where he bought it from , suggest this to the seller too and you may see a change in attitude , there is no way he went to china to buy it and there are chinese ones on ebay - Good Luck

Whether or not the only thing it doesn't support is names is irrelevant, its not what was described, end of.

I've not heard great things of these Chinese replica units, and IMHO it is a bad final price considering you can get a proper RCD 510 for the same money.  I'd expect the knock off 25-50% cheaper

If and when you do send it back make sure you take photos during the packing process and have it in a suitable strong box etc. then insure it via Special Delivery :happy2:

Ebay are usually understanding and back you up if you have enough proof that you have been sold something not as described. They went in my favour yesterday when i'd recently bought a supposidly "mint condition golf gti edition 30 gear knob" but received it and had 1 broken clip and 1 so loose it will break if it touches anything? Then the seller accuses me of breaking the part that I need as mine is broken? Cant deal with idiots...

Rant over. :jumpmove:

The issue over UK may not go your way

It could be argued that the item is in the UK unlike some others

Although a bit of buyer research before buying could prevent a lot of hassle to both parties

Ebay will side with the buyers in most cases

But this is not a Chinese 'replica' unit - its an official VW unit built and distributed by VW china. It is a proper RCD, but lacks the RDS function of the UK units.

Hopefully eBay will sort this out in favour of the OP  :happy2:

You can tell its not an English version as the buttons aren't labelled up right, top right is supposed to be 'Tim' isn't it? I read somewhere that's how you tell the difference.......of course that doesn't really help you now, but as said ebay will refund you if it's not as described :)

How long did it take for them to resolve the matter?

Ebay have reviewed the case and have backed me, the RCD is now out the car,  boxed up and being sent back to the seller tomorrow by free post. I need to get proof off sending and then eBay will return my money via PayPal once I fill out some details.  I'm not sure how they get money back from the seller but I am not interested in that.  I won't sing and dance just yet until I have been fully refunded.
