ive got an enitial 6 months warranty with the dealer but i was wondering what the best deals are out there? what cover people are using ?
-
personally I wouldnt bother unless you have dsg.
-
DSG box is actually stronger then a manual with clutch. Less likely to have issues then an older car with higher mileage tbh.
Mechatronic issues have be reported on cars that are newer rather then ones that have been fitted to the car since new and have had no issues.ie ones over 3 years +.

It might be stronger but if the gearbox fails, i read you are looking at £5000 to replace it so good advise ref warranty :happy2:

Ever heard of 2nd hand dsg's going for £500?? .
If you need one, statlers in sheffield are stock piling . Same with Mechantronics units.
I wouldnt be put off by the 5k pricetag personally.
Again isnt a very common issue to worry of tbh.
Any warranty at the end of the day is useful. What you manage to get though(from the small print) is another subject

Never really looked into it phil, I just remembered reading the headline a while back. Left an impression, certainly put me off

In reality, i cant remember hearing of a dsg box going "bang", only faults reported has been the Mechatronics unit.I sort of remember someone on Golfgti.... had one fail within a year, under warranty etc, but nothing apart from that.
They are quite robust. ( Hurdys car will be proof that if it can handle "Hurdy Power" then im sure Joe Standands attempts with it will be reletively fine :happy2:

Believe it on not the Porsche owners club started moving to Tesco (yes the supermarket) car warranty. Porsche warranty doubled to over £1200 Tesco underwritten was ~ £400
Looked last week and the GTi was about £200 paid over 10 months interest free.
Sounds like a good deal to me, I will probably take it out when my warranty runs out.
Hope this helps a little.

Our mini cooper s has their most comprehensive cover. Covers almost everything for £27 a month and no excess when you make a claim. Good value IMO

I read somewhere recently that in North America VW have released a statement that dsg equipped cars will be guaranteed untill 100 000miles or 10years (gearbox/mech unit only obviously), if theyre doing it over there then surely they would have to honor that over here?!
I will try and find the thread, has anyone else heard/seen it?

just bought mine i got 12months warranty on it. And in 12months when vw call to extend it i will be taking the extended warrenty lol

With used car warranties, check the wording. My VW Approved Used warranty only covers named components. With all the problems I've had with my car in the last 6 months, VW have only approved the change of 1 CV boot. One garage I worked at had a 14 day 100% warranty, the rest of the year was with them contributing only 25%.
The Tesco warranty does look really good, it does have some exclusions that raised my eyebrows though so do check the smallprint before committing.

Which exclusions should we all be aware of please?
Cheers

Well the cover doesn't cover certain people in certain ways. Finest cover only covers cars up to 60k. Mine's almost at 57k so it'd be valid for all of 6 months.
I'm also an employee of a motor dealer, so they refuse paying out if they find out.
As I say its worth checking the small print as we don't want anyone wasting money
