Title: Diverter Valve!? Not the norm...
Post by: E30Dom on January 03, 2014, 05:48:05 pm
Haha, never thought I'd actually be asking a DV question... Currently building a 350bhp/tonne toy, and will use a ko3 type type turbo(well untill a time internals are uprated!)... Just wondered what the DV actually does? I thought it just released built up pressure when you come off the gas/boost?

Also has anyone got a pick of how the ko3 turbo looks with the DV removed? Looking inside sort of angle...

Cheers in advance.

Dom

(P.s.wont ask which one is best I promise lmao)

Use a DV+ on a tuned / hybrid K03 imho... I've cooked two Revision G DV's on a little 250bhp K03... and the Rev D's leak.

However you could grab the relocation kit and use a G. :happy2:

Haha, the rev G was never gonna be any good for the ko3 as it gets hot and brittle after time, the D's do leak but it's only gonna be running 220ish bhp anyway, just weigh 650-700kg :-)

After info and pics really... The DV is a solenoid, does it just activate when you come off gas, on the ecu controls this but when? Why? How?

The dv is just like old school dump valve there just to stop turbo stall. The one on the ko3 is machined into the housing, still does the same takes boost from after the turbine to before. I take it the ecu knows when to do it from the fly by wire throttle pedal.

But remember the tfsi likes the recycled boost and relies on it.

And you can block it off with a Astra vxr blank and put a normal vacuum operated one plumbed in somewhere.

Also the dv operates to stop turbo overspool and will open to prevent the turbo from going bang. Being fair I never had any issues with my G valve when running K03 Stage 2+. Id just fit a dv relocating kit and keep with the G, as it gives a good seal.
