Hello all,
I am planning to carry out this mod in my golf. Wanted to get some opinions as I'm no professional.
So... It all began when I saw this switch:

I have an RCD300 in my car so I know I can't use this item out of the box. After looking into it a little, I came across this:

Do you think I would be able to drill out the existing jack on the switch and push this one through it? Or is it wishful thinking?
I have seen another retrofit where the 3.5mm jack is constantly exposed but not a fan of it. I'm buying the connects 2 as the unit then attach it to the switch via the cable above.
What do you guys think??

I'm sure you can use the other OEM jack on your car it may just need some different wiring.
All the VW Mk5/Mk6 plugs are the same on the back of the unit as you can switch them about willy-nilly.. It also says it's for the RCD300..?
-
Yes it does. However, it requires me to have the RCD300 with the silver buttons. Unfortunately mines are all black.
-
Why do you need to have the silver buttons?
There's like, no functional difference in the headunit, plugs on the back are the same, presumably this plugs into a part of the CD changer port and tricks the car into using the multi CD changer menu as the Aux in.. ?

It is because of the description on this sellers description that put me on the DIY tangent.

"Many Customer had the wrong expectation on this item. Please note it is AUX Jack without AUX enable function."
Due to the above I was considering the connects 2 and then mod the switch for a slick finish and no sticking out.

Tried it, it doesnt work mate. You need another module inbetween... you can code your radio to have via long coding AUX but it wont work. but worth a try for this bucks.. :signLOL:

Yeah that's what I read on the tinternet. That's why considering the connects 2 unit. However wanted to know if it would be worth drilling right through the aux switch and have the audio wire route through the switch for the neat look.

Very odd indeed.
If it's true that you need another box inbetween then you could most likely do a teeny bit of wiring and mod it so the proper Aux controller simply goes to the Aux port that you have linked to.
Would be pretty simple really.

If I could get some advice on how I could go about doing this I would appreciate it very much.
