My g/f said she had bought me a xmas present in 2004 a 2.0 gttdi-it came at the time with every mod possible ie full leather,6 disc and 8 speakers-the winter pack and the 17" estoril alloys..
this is the only picture i have in standard spec

The car was only 2 months old and i changed the audio
changed the speakers to these all round

then put in a header unit. After 9 different ones i settled on this
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fcc20%2Fmaxitrol%2Falpinescreen.jpg&hash=fe86c8bf1f1aff5d0a389016e704008245f3389c)
by luck i purchased the ipod shelf of e bay for £40
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fcc20%2Fmaxitrol%2F076d_1.jpg&hash=736978e1d9ae07e6fbabf1ac230829cfe4eb8caf)
Also put the alpine black bird sat nav in
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fcc20%2Fmaxitrol%2Fmn400e.jpg&hash=e59408bd6641c2d840d67035e7a205561cbc5790)
Last year i purchased some geniune R32 alloys with brand new tyres for £700 of e-bay and some R32 lights
and a private number plate
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fcc20%2Fmaxitrol%2FIMG_0742.jpg&hash=d48cd03f45ee9ac12917586c1f53ae1cc6a9a740)

bought orig r32 alloys with the tractor look
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fcc20%2Fmaxitrol%2FImage122.jpg&hash=191c3cfd2ac2ae2ba3bdf978d8378d2fa408d59d)
got a remap done at awesome-which transformed the car-i went back down thier to get the map tweaked but the turbo blow up on thier rollers(no fault of Awesomes)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fcc20%2Fmaxitrol%2Funtitled.jpg&hash=9f45a5525e64c2c5a7c08e897b182a478308e946)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fcc20%2Fmaxitrol%2FIMG_0916.jpg&hash=51ef5cd973e820ffb9085fa56b54f9747412f395)

After the dreaded white worm had attacked the rear badge i purchased the new 3d ones but it sticked out by 2mm which i didn't like
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fcc20%2Fmaxitrol%2FIMG_0971.jpg&hash=15b2370bafe8889fcdf8137c9d820f18dcbe2181)
so i got the orig flat badge and got my mate to paint the front and back badges and i debadged it..
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fcc20%2Fmaxitrol%2FIMG_1245.jpg&hash=2a169fb892af677fc86fbf6456633247272cacc5)

I contacted Rich after seeing pics of his car perfectly cleaned..i went up to Rich house today and this is the results

took a 4hr drive to see Chris and get the alpine ine s900r fitted today--when Chris removed my old header unit (alpine 320 with sat nav & ipod interface) he was shocked to see how a top Company that was in sunderland had wired up and botched the install..Chris reconnect the wires and installed the new unit..the bonus bit was the buttons on my mk6 steering wheel works now as well...its a excellent bit of kit now i have got the hang of it---i went for this unit over the rns10 because i am running to amps and a sub in the boot--also averaged 56mpg so all in all a good day for me

Nice car man! Love all the small mods!!
-
I've known the car for some time but only now I discover your build thread.
I have to say that your car is lovely and that it is one of the best cars on the forum, IMHO. :congrats:
Usually most of the non GTI owner go for the GTI look. I find it great and an inspiration to other non GTI owners that you kept the OEM front bumper but improved it by a great deal by adding the Votex spoiler. With the other mods (wheels, brakes, etc) I think your car is quite complete.
Again I think the car looks AWESOME and I would like to congratulate you on the progress so far! :notworthy:
The more I look on other member's ride the more I find really great builds such as yours. This is one of the reasons I like this forum so much

Maybe you can measure the clearance you have in the middle of the car to see if the side skirts would clear of not.
The perfect side skirts for your Golf are from Votex and they're chunkier than the ones from the GTI/R32. :\

Are they h11 fogs?
Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk

As I have some inside knowledge of these, they are standard reflector style HB4 ones off a GTI rather than the earlier projector style H11 ones which were off very early (pre-2006 I think) Mk5s.
Hope that helps!
-
not as yet checked but was informed my bulbs are h4 as well

oops hb4 :signLOL:
-
These were factory fit on my mk5 GTI. When I took them off to replace with some projector fogs, I had to make a couple of convertors from HB4 to H11 so the projectors would plug straight in. Something similar to these. If they don't fit your existing loom, it is easily solved as you would just need the reverse of these cables!

@maxitrol (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=164) Just looked through your build thread, great work! I'm a fellow TDI owner, but building towards a GTB2260 upgrade.
One thing I found interesting in your thread is the s3 gear selector... did this make a real difference was it worth doing?
Also I find my changes from 1st to 2nd are pretty clunky, it never crunches but it's not smooth like all the other changes. Is this just a common problem that us Mk5 owners have to live with, I would assume the s3 selector wouldn't help with this, as it seems only slower gear changes help.
Cheers, Stu.
-
the s3 selector is a good upgrade as it is less travel through the gears. The gear change should be as smooth as the others between 1st to 2nd.Check the cables and the bushes and the linkages
-
This looks gorgeous mate, the transformation is stunning! and by the looks of things could strike fear in the eyes of a standard GTi.
-

I always think i am finished modding it but then find some thing else to do
-
Haha, I've found the same with my motorcycle, there's always something else on the list of things to do to it.
Never really modified cars much other than smoked indicators or different alloys but have a good idea what I want to do to the golf and yours has certainly helped me on the way for inspiration :happy2:

Hi Mate car looks great just bought a gt tdi myself . what size are your wheels and have you lowered it?? mine lowered 35mm but ideally want bbs 19 staggered , any help would be much appreciated .
-
Hello
The car is lowered on kW coil overs and the alloys are
19"et44 with 225/35/19 tyres
The problem you will have is finding bbs alloys that are staggered but keep looking as they do come up for sale

Thanks to Dan for the picture

The high line clocks give you access to more menus and is a good upgrade
The service lights you can turn of your self

Hi, just read through your thread. Car looks amazing and loving all the work and detail that has gone into it!!
A couple of questions if you don't mind - where did you get the wheels refurbished as I live in Newcastle (well South Shields) and will potentially need mine doing, not that I've actually got the car yet but hopefully buying one this week!
And also, the detailing you've had done looks amazing, are they a local firm? One last one. The switches that you got (lights, electric windows etc.) are they the cheap ones on eBay from China or genuine parts?
Thanks, James.

Very nice :happy2: you must be sad to see the TDi beauty go after so many years of ownership.

just a few things like the oem blue tooth and change the tyres s they are cheap budget ones but might just run them of first
set of lowering springs and thats it for now
-
Awh mann. Such a nice car but a good upgrade ;) you selling as is or breaking?
-
Cheers mate
Just selling at the moment
-
Not a problem :) if you come round to breaking could be interested in a few parts after having a nosey at vwfest ;)
-
Will do mate
-
Those brakes and ck's would go very nicely on that r32 Andy :innocent:
-
Yeah they would look good but having driven it i just think it will spoil the drive of it as i can just fly over pot holes etc where as with the bbs i would slow down
-
Well cared for car. Would love to treat myself!
-
Seriously. You need to swap the brakes..... they are lighter than the R32s and better. Makes no sense to sell the TDi with them on it.
-
TDi .....to R32...
Do you have some knowledge of an oil price change that I have missed? :signLOL:
I went a similar route 330D to Ed 30 at a major change of job, but now very much wish i had stuck with auto/DSG. Had no idea that the M6 Birmingham is nearly as bad as M25!
GLWS
-
No way, as above you should switch the Forge kit over as unfortunately you're not gunna get much extra value over an R32 kit when selling but are way better and lighter
-
Andy defo take the easy bolt on parts off like the brakes.
to swap the forge brakes to the r32 ones is easy. don't be daft and sell the tdi with those brakes on it! you won't get any more money!
put the r32 ones on your tdi .
-
No way. Just seen this. One of the nicest diesel, if not the nicest diesel car around.
Congrats, the new car looks well specd, but your white balance or exposure seems wrong, cause I could swear it don't look black.
-
Another vote for the brake swap from me! And any other part that you can see in better shape in your TDI that can be easily swapped too!
-
Who can photo shop my bbs ck alloys on to the r32

Those wheels look awesome in any Golf! But for going over potholes the Omanyts are really strong so you don't really have to fear much when driving with them. Mine are 17'' and have taken a lot with no issues over the last 7 years.
This is closest pic I could find. Not CK but the shape isn't that much different.

Horrible seeing that.. Used to hate seeing my old A4 after I'd sold it... I kept it spotless but it was filthy and alloys kerbed within a few weeks of being sold, not seen it in a while though.

Just read the whole thread, was a great read with lots of great information and seeing your old car like that must be really upsetting compared to how you kept it.
Thanks for the approval by the way.
-
Yeah looked after it since new and seeing it like that was bit upsetting
-
Just read this whole thread, what a lovely car. Hope the new owner looks after it though. :happy2:
