Title: Switching to Millers Nanodrive 5w40
Post by: richtung on January 27, 2014, 08:39:36 am
Morning Folks,

Didn't want to hijack another thread so thought I'd start my own.

I currently run a standard ED30 doing 7k a year. Like most people on here, I run it with Castrol Edge 5w30 which is changed every 6 months (so 3.5k miles between changes in my case).

I've read a lot about members with modded cars who have switched to Millers Nanodrive 5w40 with good results.

With my low mileage in mind, if I reduce the oil change to one per year on the Millers stuff, it works out the same price im paying now for the 2 oil changes per year with Castrol Edge.

Would there be any benefit in me changing to Millers Nanodrive 5w40 with mine being a standard car?

Thanks

Rich

Always going to be a benefit.  Less likely to burn oil, better performance, better fuel economy etc.

Try it.  If you don't find that its any better then you can just chance back.

I can vouch for this!

After a recommendation From Alex @ AKS and others on here I went for the Nanodrive and it seems to run smoother and quieter.

Mine is stock too bar a panel filter.

I read this review which sold it too me also:

A brilliant oil that keeps my engine running at max power plus cool and in difficult circumstances. I sprint a 570kgs 231bhp Dunnellengines car , in sports libre category which means many stop/starts before actually getting on the track. Then it runs at max rev's in all gears over 2 to 3 miles in 93 plus sec's from a standing start. Last time the shells were inspected on rebuild , due to a missed gear , they were found to be perfect even after 3 seasons of using Millers 5w40 then the nanodrive 5w40 once it was on sale. The missed gear mean't I reved it to over 10,000rpm --- 8000rpm is it's rev-cut !!! I also use Millers in my gearbox and diff. Dunnellengines also use Millers oils.

 :happy2:

So that drag car guy above was using the NON Nanodrive Millers 5w40 (considerbly cheaper) oil for 3 seasons and had no issues or wear... begs the question why use Nano drive in the GTI if used as a road car.

Independent dyno tests have shown the nanodrive to give a BHP increase over the normal Millers competition oil.

I would be using the cheapest I could get hold of in my own cars and customers cars, but I choose to use the Millers as its shown to work.  I don't get anything for free from them either.

Just playing devils advocate  would you need to notify your insurance company if you change to this oil because of the gain in BHP  :pomppomp:

Thanks for the info guys - looks like i'll be giving the Millers stuff a try.

My only niggle is that its not VW 504 approved... However, its not like we are talking about Asda's Smart price oil here, is it?

In trying to get my head around in difference between 30 and 40 . Wouldn't it be better to use  40 as it protects better in higher temps and especially as turbo engines run hotter ? Confused between edge titanium 5 w30 or shell helix ultra 5w40 or the miller

^^ me to! I didn't know you could get millers 5w-30 until someone above posted a link, so is it modded or stock millers 5w-40 is 100% safe or should I just stick with the 5w-30
