This will be the first time I have been to Europe in the MKV. I have halogen headlights an would like to know what I need to do to make them legal. Is it an adjustment of the light pattern or is it something you place on the headlight cover to change the headlight pattern?

i dont think were driving at night!?
I just put stickers over mine the other week.

....Hurdy and I aren't going with you. Early mornings before it's light.
Where did you get the stickers from, Joe?

You've got those aftermarket jobbies, Hurdy, yes?
I know on OEM xenons there's a lever on each lamp to flick them from RHD to LHD - now a cynical mind may think that an aftermarket manufacturer would be insane to make RHD & LHD versions and adopt a similar approach?? Instruction manuals FTW.
If not, those Hella stick on jobbies from Halfrauds will do the job.

Im with mike on this one.
there will probably be a lever inside the headlight John, that changes the beam pattern.
They have that function on the OEM lights, and some aftermarket lights i had on a mk4 once
-
^^^^
John's got aftermarket headlight units with the LED DRL strips.

No internal adjustments :sad1:
Just got some stick on jobbies and also found out that you can buy headlight protectors from VW that come with a conversion to EU light patterm.
Thanks for the help guys :happy2:
-
rather than it being a conversion, it just cuts off the higher part of our light pattern on the left hand side.
Basically it chops out a lot of your light.
It does always beg the question with me this one....
how many french, polish, estonian, spanish and Lithuanian truckers/drivers bother to change their headlight pattern?
-
Having just returned from france, I am in a fairly strong position to comment, especially as I did 800 miles overnight!
I purchased the proper headlight protectors and stickers, but still had to set my lights to setting one, as I got flashed when they were in the normal position!
On the way back I removed the covers and stickers completely, and set the postion to 1 and didnt get flashed once, and I have uprated bulbs.
SO the moral is dont buy anything, just set them to one, no probs!
-
Ive been to france twice now and used the stick on circles, pile of pants as said, you still get flashed, so yes turn the light beams down.
if anything they save you getting a tug by the cops, as this is one of the reasons to pull you over, as they want payment on the spot.
so worth banging them on,
things i took, A high vis vest per passenger, tri-angle, spare bulbs, GB sticker or euro plates, all car docs, and a spare car key
(zip/tie wrapped in secret place) in case you loose it.
