Personally prefer the look of the 3 door. But totally agree that a 5Dr is more practical.  :happy2:

being 6.1 I find in five door cars the seat is so far back the b pillar blocks my side view far more than in a 3 door

and 95% of the time there's no more than two people in the car , I'm old and my sons 30  :happy2:

5 door for the offspring, 3 door once they left home!  :pomppomp:

Its one car that REALLY does look as good in 3 or 5 door IMO. When I bought mine I had the option of my 3 door Red Mistress or a Candy 5 door? If it had been the other way round I'd have had the 5 door as my main requirement was RED.

Both look great but somehow I think the mk5 in general suits the 5dr shape. Think the 3 door looks like a 5 door car adjusted (guess it probably was!?)

I prefer the 3-dr shape for the mk5. The 5-dr looks good for sure, but for some reason I prefer the 3dr. Guess I am also scarred by having to replace the door locks on my old mkiv 5dr two times on each door in my ownership due to failures...

I weighed up how often I carried rear passengers, and decided 3dr was for me, but I admit it can be a pain with the long front doors in tight parking spaces.

I have a newborn and a 3dr, can get him in and out no problems into the ISOFIX base.

I don't think a 5dr would be particularly better in these circumstances as I still think it would be a bit small for the 'family car'

Looks wise I prefer the 3 door, just looks quicker  :P

Practicality wise, the 5 door is better for people with young kids, obviously. How ever I have 2 kids aged 8 and 11 and this isnt really an issue for me

3 door looks better, but the 5 door golf (all the way back to the MK2) always looks better than its 5 door competitors, I include the A3 in that.

When I had to bin the Focus ST for a 5 door, Golf was the only thing i considered. The 5 door ST is bloody 'orrible.

I actually prefer the look of a 5dr, they're longer, so when slammed, they look lower in a way..
But I wish I'd gotten a 3dr purely due to weight, mine is a 1.6 FSI, so doesn't benefit from the added weight of the 5dr body :sad1:

According to Parkers they are both 1328kg. Take that with a pinch of salt though. I am sure the last focus 5 door weighed 26kg more than the 3door though.

Yeah I'm sure it's heavier due to added bracing as well as length of floors, exhaust, roof, etc.
Haven't researched or anything, was just assuming haha

Voted 5 door as I've got one, first 5 door hatch I've owned since my 309GTi in 1996, always had 3 door Golfs until the arrival of my little lad coincided with car swap time, thought I'd just make life easier and go 5 door this time  :happy2:

Aesthetically the 3 door is better but it has to be 5 doors for me purely for the convienence factor. We had a 3 door for a while but my mother in law how has mobilty problems found it hard to get out of so it had to go.
