Personally prefer the look of the 3 door. But totally agree that a 5Dr is more practical. :happy2:
-
the 5d looks more longer and bigger somehowe to :O
-
3 door looks a lot better.
-
friends 5 doors
no friends 3 door or a bike :signLOL:
-
3 because it looks better and iv no family :signLOL:
-
friends 5 doors
no friends 3 door or a bike
Or an Oyster Card lol
-
5 door... :innocent:
-
3d forever alone :jumpmove:
-
being 6.1 I find in five door cars the seat is so far back the b pillar blocks my side view far more than in a 3 door
and 95% of the time there's no more than two people in the car , I'm old and my sons 30 :happy2:

Both are fine, I'd own either.

i think the mk5 gti looks better as a 5d rather then a 3d :O 3d looks more like a big round ball :chicken:

I can be nice.
Sometimes.
-
Looks wise I'd say 3dr but I need the practicality of a 5dr.
-
3 door for me, got 2 kids (10 & 12 now) and never felt the need to go for the for 5 door :happy2:
-
Got to be 5 door as letting people out of the back when it's raining or bad weather is a pain.
-
I prefer a 3dr looks more hot hatch but I own a 5dr reson colour and price
-

That! :drinking:
-
Deffo 3dr, looks much better. Don't care about practicality, my cars for me not passengers
-
only + i like about the 3d is less windows to dry and less windows to tint
-
5 door for the offspring, 3 door once they left home! :pomppomp:
Its one car that REALLY does look as good in 3 or 5 door IMO. When I bought mine I had the option of my 3 door Red Mistress or a Candy 5 door? If it had been the other way round I'd have had the 5 door as my main requirement was RED.

i dont get it :D

Both look great but somehow I think the mk5 in general suits the 5dr shape. Think the 3 door looks like a 5 door car adjusted (guess it probably was!?)

the 5d looks more BIG for me :happy2:
-
I prefer the 3-dr shape for the mk5. The 5-dr looks good for sure, but for some reason I prefer the 3dr. Guess I am also scarred by having to replace the door locks on my old mkiv 5dr two times on each door in my ownership due to failures...
I weighed up how often I carried rear passengers, and decided 3dr was for me, but I admit it can be a pain with the long front doors in tight parking spaces.
-
3 door for me.. 3 door always looks better in a hatch, cant think of any of reason to go 5 door other then if you got a babyseat in the car
-
5 door is handy if you ferry mates, kids etc. Looks good too imo.
-
5 door better because when it's lashing down you don't have to get out to let your mates in the back
-

^^^^This! My only issue with my 5 door after coming from a 3 door.
Other than that i have no preference
-
3 Door for me & I've got 2 kids (6&8). It's not been a problem at all.
-
3 doors drops draws!
Homesqueeze knows the deal. :congrats:
But ye 3 doors, don't care for practicality as my cars for me only. :happy2:
-
3 doors. They just look better
-
I have a newborn and a 3dr, can get him in and out no problems into the ISOFIX base.
I don't think a 5dr would be particularly better in these circumstances as I still think it would be a bit small for the 'family car'
-
3dr - please lock thread. :happy2:
-
3 door for me - not only in the Mk5 Golf but for any car availible - the only reason I'd have a 5 door is if a 3 door hasnt been made.
-
3dr - please lock thread. :happy2:
the 5d is still leadning :P
-
^^Most 3dr owners are too busy out driving and looking cool to vote, that's why
-
3 door all the way! Don't know when was the last time I owned a 5 door lol!!

-
3 doors drops draws!
i dont get it :D
Draws = Knickers :happy2:

-
2 Doors and a boot.
-
Draws = Knickers :happy2:
I think you mean drawers.
-
Got a 3 door but now need a 5 door
I would be happy with either
-
3dr for me.
There's mainly just me and my missus in the car anyway. Plus, i prefer the look of the 3dr.
-
I have a 3 door
Looks wise I prefer the 3 door, just looks quicker :P
Practicality wise, the 5 door is better for people with young kids, obviously. How ever I have 2 kids aged 8 and 11 and this isnt really an issue for me
-
21 votes for each ATM, so 50/50.
Just proves its a car that looks and works just as well in either!
-
I would nt have a GTI if they did nt do a 3 door , 5 doors just dont do any thing for me !!
-
Draws = Knickers :happy2:
I think you mean drawers.
Gold star that man!
Couldn't decide which way to spell it, so obviously I chose the wrong way!
-
5 door for me because I cant get my golf clubs in the stupidly narrow boot. I have to put them on the back seat.
-
^^ thats called Golf in a Golf

3 door looks better, but the 5 door golf (all the way back to the MK2) always looks better than its 5 door competitors, I include the A3 in that.
When I had to bin the Focus ST for a 5 door, Golf was the only thing i considered. The 5 door ST is bloody 'orrible.
-
I actually prefer the look of a 5dr, they're longer, so when slammed, they look lower in a way..
But I wish I'd gotten a 3dr purely due to weight, mine is a 1.6 FSI, so doesn't benefit from the added weight of the 5dr body :sad1:
-
3 door :popcornsoda:

According to Parkers they are both 1328kg. Take that with a pinch of salt though. I am sure the last focus 5 door weighed 26kg more than the 3door though.
-
Yeah I'm sure it's heavier due to added bracing as well as length of floors, exhaust, roof, etc.
Haven't researched or anything, was just assuming haha
-
5 door practical easy and still looks (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fgeaton86%2FMobile_Uploads%2FEF80EE70-6B50-40E1-A8DE-D065C9A20248_zpsbdmecxaa.jpg&hash=c4b09928d1ec04b5e7faec85ffad5af62be66396)

..have to agree with Clive_gti, if you have kids its a 5 door!!

..have to agree with Clive_gti, if you have friends its a 5 door!!
Hehe  in all seriousness though, it really bugs me having to get out and fold the seat forward every time I have people in the car, which can be quite often.. so I'm welcoming the arrival of my 5 door
-
5 door is much easier to live with. 3 door is much easier to look at.

Half right half wrong :signLOL:

I've just tipped the more doors into the lead
Voted 5 door as I've got one, first 5 door hatch I've owned since my 309GTi in 1996, always had 3 door Golfs until the arrival of my little lad coincided with car swap time, thought I'd just make life easier and go 5 door this time :happy2:
-
Aesthetically the 3 door is better but it has to be 5 doors for me purely for the convienence factor. We had a 3 door for a while but my mother in law how has mobilty problems found it hard to get out of so it had to go.
