Title: Rcd510 in 2005 gti which can gateway? Where to get code

Couple of questions:
Off to get a rcd510 tomorrow (really wanted rns!) but its cheap.
I know the can gateway needs changing, but which unit is it that i need??
Will one off a passat work or does it need to be from a golf?
I understand aswell that vagcom needs to be used to update gateway software,
My mate has vagcom, but i think he used it on his s3??
Would this plug into my golf and do the update thing? Or is the leads/software different.
Also radio Has no code where could i get this from?

Please help as my head feels burnt out with all the updating business!!
What happened to good old fashion plug n play!

Did you ask the seller if he had the code before you bought it? I would've.

After that you could pay someone on Ebay about £8 and give them the serial number, and they'll get the code for you.

It was listed with no code,  as alot of them are on eBay.  After i posted, i looked on ebay and seen some ads on there for around the £8 mark

Ah in that case I would suspect it was a knock off. But no matter, as you say £8 or so should sort it.

Beats me why the seller doesn't pay £8 and sell it with a code. Makes it a lot easier to sell.

I know, would make life alot easier the guy! I i just thought with seeing so many on ebay listed and selling with no code it would be easy to get the code, guy i got it off said it was removed from his tiguan as he upgraded to the sat nav, and this has been sat in his shed ever since.

If he took it from his Tiguan and it was the original HU, he just has to ring up the supplying dealer for the code with the original reg number.

I did the exact same with my RCD510 from the Tig, and the dealer called me back with the code.
