Title: GTI Rear Bumper fitting
Post by: irish_ram on February 19, 2014, 11:00:14 pm
Hi All,

I am looking at my next mod and thinking about a GTI rear Bumper but there are a few things I want to know.

One the link below is the style I am looking at so is this the correct one or are there other styles

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2007-VW-GOLF-MK5-EDITION-30-GTI-REAR-BUMPER-COMPLETE-GENUINE-/161216315028?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item25893dbe94

Also what sort of price should I be looking at paying and as I have a GT Sport MK 5 I am presuming it will not be a straight fit?

rear bumper will fit straight on no mods needed.
That price is a bit steep imo for an ED30 rear though. The GTI rear lower bumper is about £50 off ebay

That's an edition 30 bumper not a gti. You can get a genuine gti rear bumper on ebay for £60 then get
It painted ( if you were going to)

It will also fit straight on, but you may need an exhaust  unless your gt has the twin exhaust sticking out like the gti.

That's a very steep price for an edition 30 rear.

Ah right as thought it was a bit steep. My current rear setup is below with the double exhaust so presume I have the right standard setup.

Yep, the Valence will go straight on. The lower valance is really easy to remove also so shouldn't take you too Long.
Any more questions just ask

Rear bumper are easily removed:
2 torque screws (per side) holding the inner arch splash shield
1 holding the bumper to the rear quarter.
2 torques underneath the bumper holding it to the chasis.
Remove rearlights & you'll see 2 torques holding bumper to the carrier.
Don't forget to dissconect number plate light cable!!

Cheers for the info chaps.

Just a question to clarify. Do I need both parts of the gti bumber then if want to convert and not just the lower??

Also lookingat colour codingthe lower bumper to the top apart from the small section just above the exhaust if that makes sense

If you have a GT TDI the exhaust will sit too far in so you will need to get the tip extended

You don't need to remove your rear lights to take the bottom half of the bumper

Maybe I have started ahead of myself as was looking at the ed30 bumper instead of the GTI one. Would like the ED30 but a bit steep so the GTI seems like a good compromise.

So first question is do I need to replace the upper and lower bumber. Also if I do only need to change the lower what are the disadvantages of doing this as it is not expensive for both if went that way.

To clarify I have the GT Sport 170 petrol model so is it just plug and play or do I need any modifications doing.

Also looking at some GTI rear bumper the lower bumper seems to have an indent part that runs just over the exhausts so I presume this is the standard one and it is actually different to my current one I posted a pic of above

Nope, all the top part of the bumpers are the same. Edition 30, gti and r32 bolt to them.

Answer to your exhaust is it should fit. A friend of mine has the same and he hasn't had an issue with the exhaust.

Yes, the gti has a groove as shown below

People tend to colour code the bumper and leave the centre bit black which looks great.

Nice one,

Exactly what I was thinking of doing, colour coding all but that small section tornado red.

Someone has offered me the whole upper and lower rear bumper so was checking if needed or not but was for a good price so may take the lot and fit if in better condition than mine or sell if not

Looks very nice but is it me or does your lower bumper look slightly different with the groove as to the one posted above

Ah right, getting confused but think I get it now.

Got a member potentially selling me the upper and lower bumper off his GTI for £70 so looks a good bargain
