I have an intermittent tappet like noise can go days without anything then comes on hot or cold if I go over a big bump in road sometimes goes again sounds loud like old diesel car strange
Ideas anyone
Thanks

Bump :P can anybody help monkey boy here please coz it's driving him mad :stupid:
-
i would suspect it is your fuel lines knocking against the chassis. Quite common and an easy fix, search on here to find thread

No knocking fuel lines on 07 GT TDI - yes on GTI that would be a good shout!
If your saying it's an engine noise my money would be a faulty injector for the symptoms you've described hot or cold or the tank fuel pump beginning to fail!

Cheers will look into it asap

Had similar issue, turned out to be a worn belt tensioner.

Had belt and tensioners done last year could it be this already ?

Get your alternator clutch pulley checked. I have a similar issue where I had replaced the tensioner and belt, but the noise came back 7-8months later. Realised that the clutch pulley was jammed. This causes extra stress on the tensioner pulley and causes it to wear prematurely. For me the sound is a very pronounced intermittent tappett noise in the cabin. Kinda subsides in neutral and under a little load
