Wow. Impressive!!
-
Expect a 'Ring special edition in the future.
-
Never mind that, I want to know what size the PSCup2s come in :happy2:
-
-
Now that is the way to set a Ring record! I wonder how the Honda Type R techs are taking the news? :signLOL:
-
That was a seriously impressive lap and a seriously impressive car

Whilst an awesome achievement, it took 4 years, more power, a new gen platform and semi slicks to beat a French tin can.
I suspect Honda will beat this. I also suspect as the Megane is reaching end of life, they'll have another shot with a 265.R
New FRS, VXtReme thing, R Evo, 1/2M etc etc all on their way. Amazing times in the hot hatch world, I don't remember such a jump in evolution for a long time.
-
i can see this beating it
http://www.evo.co.uk/news/geneva_motor_show/291904/honda_civic_typer_revealed_at_geneva_motor_show.html
-
So can I. It promises to be a technology fap-fest. RWSteer etc. amazing.
-
I expect it'll look just like that in production form, too...
-
Well done seat !
I never seen that coming !
-
Good lap for a standard car, wonder how much faster the R version will be. Sounds brilliant.
Honda will beat i i guess. Unless we get a watered down crappy version like last time

Not actually a standard car it had the "performance pack" on it different tyres and brakes
-
The performance version was at the Geneva Show. It looked bloody awful!

-
I've seen worse Simon.
-
Seems Seat forgot to mention they'd removed the aircon from their lap car. Oops.

Source?
-
Seat coughed to it.

Its impressive whichever way you cut it. More importantly it helps SEAT define itself as the sport arm of the VAG group.
-
Seems Seat forgot to mention they'd removed the aircon from their lap car. Oops.
To be fair to Seat they have always been open about the fact the lap car was fitted with the 'performance' pack option and if that pack should allow the deletion of aircon as was the case with the R26R then I'd still class it as a credible achievement tbh
Besides it's made all the more impressive by the fact the performance pack runs RS3 brakes and everyone knows how crap they are...
-
I'm not fussed by it at all, just makes them look a bit silly when info gets released so far afterwards. It's taken a huge chunk of time off the record, aircon or not.
You don't need brakes, they just slow you down.
-
:congrats: :congrats: :congrats:
Well done Seat, always had a soft spot for them and would love another Leon, Could be a tough call between a Mk6 Gti and a Leon Mk2 Cupra R if we get in a position to by another performance hatch but really like that coupe version of the new one.
-
Toying with driving to my 'local' dealership to take a look, as they have one in stock. Bit put off with quality issues on SCN forum, though. Apparently the door seals leak and the wind noise around them is really loud.
-
The early Mk2 Octavias had noisy door seals which they fixed probably by stealing them from the Golf.
I guess it will come down to how it drives as you could always fit a loud exhaust.

MK3 is alot better built than the MK2... its a big step up

Dunno about that. Do your door seals leak?
-
Occasionally and the wind noise is terrible.. not that im bothered lol

My problem is my memory now I'm old. I'd never remember to sit the bucket on the seat to catch the drips when I parked up!
-
never the less still pretty damn quick for a 'near' production car haha

Well, I went in there earlier in the week to have a quick look. When you see the low rent interior it's obvious why a Golf or A3 costs a little more. My fears of poor build quality were heightened by the fact that the car was not driveable, due to a recall for incorrectly fitted engine mounts. I asked if I could try it later in the week, but no one rang to say it had been mended and was ready to run. It was totally the opposite of something I'd choose anyway, being a pale colour, 5 door and DSG...
-
It's actually a gearbox bracket recall

Just relaying what the salesman told me, I'm not gonna get all anal and google it first. :rolleye:
-
Didn't Google it lol its only on the demo models customer cars are fine
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
-
Well if they ever call me back to tell me it's fixed I'll be able to correct him now. I take it it was a DSG problem, as all the demo cars have that gearbox, don't they?
-
Just a bracket on the box apparently and only some of the demo cars.. the other issue with the cars is that they are being built and shipped without the "280" badge on them at the moment.
-
Well, drove it finally. Then placed an order!
-
Coolio!
Are you able to select the performance pack??
-
Not yet
I've ordered
Leon Cupra SC Cupra 280 with DSG.
Monsoon Grey
SEAT sound
Winter pack
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
-
My dealer didn't even know about it. I've ordered virtually the same car, but with black leather, as I wasn't too keen on the light grey bits on the seats.
-
The Seat uk configurator mentions the bucket seats being available from July onwards, I'd imagine it will be around that time that the performance pack would be available should Seat UK decide to bring it in.. :happy2:
Really liking the new Leon more and more :happy2:
-
Me too, now they've got the interior up to scratch, I really can't think of why they shouldn't sell like hot cakes!
-

Had a spin out in Chris's new FR, it's a great car even in 1.8tsi form, LOTS of new tech and the interior is a very nice place to be :happy2:
LED headlights are the future too! :happy2:
-
It's on the new broomstick list for the missus in a few years :happy2:
-
Out of interest, does anyone know if the MQB cars have the same wheel specs? I assume the PCD hasn't changed and I'm pretty sure the offset is around 50, so that's good, but is the centre bore still 57.1? I'm hoping to keep my Turinis as winter rims, as long as they'll fit OK...
-
I'm pretty sure wheel specs are the same, they are Deffo 5x112
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
-
Mk5/mk6 platform wheels would seem to fit the MQB cars, there's a VW dealer selling a mk7 R with mk6 R wheels on for some reason and a few on the mk7 forum have used mk6 wheels as winters etc :happy2:
-
Lovely jubbly! Cheers :happy2:

Looks like the Fronch boys want their record back...

Wonder if Michelin are developing a "cough Cough" Semi Slick for Renault and employing a Touring car driver, why not just put Sabine Schmidt in there I think she knows the track as well if not better than anyone else :happy2:

That will prove absolutely nothing
The SEAT had bigger brakes and different tyres IIRC?
Renault named Michelin and Ohlins alongside Akraprovic in being involved in the Under 8 project, suggesting bespoke tyres, an overhauled suspension system and a performance exhaust
Totally different to the stock car lol
-
Well you say totally different to a stock car, but if they then launch a car you can buy with all that on the options list (like the Cupra pack giving Brembos and PSCup2s) it then becomes a 'stock' car.
I reckon they'll take it. Just. And Honda will wait for them to do it before having a pop.

They're releasing the performance pack :stupid:??
Renault won't be as this is an old model?
Does the cupra have a proper LSD like the Renault?
I agree with u about Honda tho
-
Not sure I follow you.
My definition of "stock" means it has to be something that any punter can walk into a dealer and buy. The Leon will soon be available with the Brembo/PSCup2s/etc, which will then make their time legit.
So to take the official record, the Megane will have to be likewise, they'll have to offer all that kit either as a special edition car or at least on the RS265's option list.
Do you see what I mean???
Clio Trophy had fancy Sachs dampers. R26.R could be specced with a titanium exhaust & R888s.... it's not like they've not done it before.
-

They won't offer that though, because they're bringing out a new shape aren't they?? Unless I misread it wrong and they're keeping the same shape?
-
Renault has twice before held this record, most recently with the Mégane 265 at 8m7.97s, and it is looking to give the current Mégane one last hurrah before an all-new model is launched next year.
So basically they're modding the older version just to try and beat the cupra time?
Just a bit of willy waving IMO!!
-
Has the MK7 R been around yet? Or did I miss the memo?

The R26.R was right at the end of that shape's life, the last hurrah. They're doing the same here, one last willy waving goodbye with a seriously stupid version of the current car.
Says a lot though when they can still get an old generation car around a track as fast, if not faster than the best the competition can do with their new ones, eh?
The new one will probably be mental.
-
Has the MK7 R been around yet? Or did I miss the memo?
VW made a claim, never backed it up with any evidence.
-
fastestlaps.com shows 8:14 for the R, but there's no other info with it to say who was driving etc...
-

Convenient :booty:
Maybe a bit gutted that a poor mans golf beat them around the track lol
-
Aren't VW making a go faster GTI to go for the record themselves? The R won't count coz it's AWD.
-
Renault's swan song announced.
Ohlins, Akrapovic titanium 'zorst, PSCup2s all featuring on the options list. Seems they reckon it needs less power to achieve it than Seat too. Not bad for an old car.
http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=29989
-
You do remember discussing this already on page 4 right?
-
I think there was some confusion as to whether it'd be offered as a real car, or not, seems it is.
Still have a soft spot for the Leon though :happy2:
This, not so much..... although I'm sure it'd be a hoot to drive.

The show car (the Civic) looked pretty good, but that one is a bit of a munter.
Anyone else reckon the Megane will be hideously expensive? I reckon they'll struggle to shift 'em without a xenon headlamp option, too, as they're jolly popular these days...
-
The Leon wont be owning this title for much longer as Renault are about to release a Megane 275 Trophy!!

Today at the SEAT Media day Jordi Gene took me around mallory park in a cupra 280 dsg... it was very very wet but he still pushed it very hard was quite scary at times.. i could see he has a hell of alot of confidence in the car..
then he took me around in the MK3 Leon Cupracer
-
Megane will nail it and be much cheapness tbh :scared:
-

The Megane 275 will not be cheap.
-
Pretty f*ckin nice!
-
Megane will nail it and be much cheapness tbh :scared:
We had an interesting conversation about the Megane over lunch.
Jordi drove the "car" that Renault set the previous record with at the ring a few weeks after.. his lap time was 12 seconds slower than there record, another racing driver (whose name I forget) also drove the car that day and was another 1 second slower. In his words on a perfect day for driving aswell.
Read into it what you like but hes basically saying the Renault lap times are as dodgy as the Leon's (Yes they removed the A/C tut tut)
-
Over that distance on such a complex track with a different driver - although 12 seconds sounds a lot, it's a tiny % difference and certainly not inconcievable. Simply losing a fraction of a second per corner would account for it, especially with the knock on effects at the likes of Bergwerk and the run up to Hohe Acht.
So yeah.
Car "optimised"? Maybe. Probably.
All drivers capable of getting every last drop out of it? Hell no.
-
a couple of kilos of weight removed would also give you 12 seconds haha..
Problem is none of these runs are verified by any governing body so they can tell us what they want, A notary was present for the SEAT run.
-
I sense you're trying to imply Renault have cheated more than SEAT cheated, so therefore the SEAT is better or more valid???
No matter how much either have bent the non-existent rules, the time is the time - they'll post a video of it and the last thing they'd do is fake it by clipping frames or speeding it up, the Internet would take it apart in seconds. PR disaster.
-
Im saying they both bent "the rules" :innocent:
-
a couple of kilos of weight removed would also give you 12 seconds haha
So, Gene was fatter than the Renault driver?
-
Im saying they both bent "the rules" :innocent:
This is why I prefer Sport Auto's lap times.
Same driver, car plucked off a dealer forecourt & spanked. Maybe not the fastest ultimate time, but pretty much as close as you'll get and much more honest.
-
Renault did it then. With a stripped out R26.R style 275 dripping in motorsport parts. At least you will be able to buy one the same spec, though, unlike the Leon.
-
I'd rather have the Leon anyway... what's a few seconds either way.
All Renaults are built pretty badly.
-
Renault takes the record back with the 275R and Seat have the track today it seems
-

Doubt you could get the exact same spec that Renault used as part of the standard car??
Just sour because a poor mans golf beat a golf....
-
Ill take the Megane
-

Hahahah
Tbf they are meant to handle so well

Who's sour? I don't give a toss either way! Not only that, but I have owned a Renaultsport car, a Golf and have a Leon en route as I type, so I can hardly be biased towards any of them...
-
The Renault driver gets an extra 1000 Internets for changing his own gears.
-
36K for the megane and if you want the exact same spec as the ring car then it will cost 40k+
-
I know, but then it's one of 30 to come to the UK and for the sum of its parts and knowing it'll be a depreciation-proof car - you'd swallow it. If you want that kind of thing, which not everyone does.
The sensible money will buy the normal 275 Trophy at normal Renault discounts (big) and cherry pick the options.
Or the SEAT, or the Type R, or whatever comes next....
-
Here's some close up pics of the VXR Extreme

You would think for that kind of money, you could get the bonnet lined up correctly :P
-
Like the tailgate on the R400 perhaps?
-
They had it on display at the Pageant of Power last weekend. I walked past it three times thinking it was some kind of off road racer . I dont know whether it was the colour but it didnt look sporty, I kept thinking it looked like a Berghaus walking boot.
