Morning guys,
Ok so I've cured the poor mpg, but have also had a problem with the Aircon on the car since we bought it. Basically it wasn't working. I've taken it back to the trader we bought it off and he has "repaired" it. I argued we wanted new parts to fix but trading standards states he can replace with second hand parts. Now I genuinely believe all he has replaced is a faulty compressor with a second hand one and the air con worked ..... For about a fortnight.
It was then diagnosed with low gas, I had it pressure checked and the garage said it was holding pressure but was low on gas.so they re-gassed it. Two weeks later- compressor is whining and it's low on gas again.
After absolute f***ing murder with the trader he has now agreed to get it repaired again. What worries me is how they are repairing it but principle is also making me loathed to spend the £700 plus to get it repaired myself.
I'm thinking if suggesting he replaces the compressor and I supply him with a condenser and drier and insist they flush the system out properly.
After war and peace(!) my question is : in your Jonestown opinion will this suffice or are we just wasting our time here?
Discuss please.. All help greatfully received..
Cheers chaps

Most common problem is the pressure valve going porous (about £40 plus regas charge)
This site does a good deal on the parts needed if you go your route

Is this the pressure switch or expansion valve?
Ta for the assistance .

Depending on the problem with the original compressor's failure and if just replaced, there may be metal shards in the AC system that could give problems later.

same as bacillus

If to sounds like darth vader in the dash before it stops working. It's the high pressure switch.
-
If it helps the part number of the pressure swich from the dealers is
1K0 959 126 E - current price £61:38 - full reatail inc vat.

Thanks to everyone for their comments -it sounds like a diff whine to be honest which increases with engine speeds until you hit the "econ" button and the noise disappears.. What's the mose effective way to flush it out ? Or can anyone recommend anyone in the north west to fix it ?

From memory mine started like that then went on to darth vader.

This is becoming more common practice and is highly rated for those difficult to find leaks
