Title: Brake pad warning light
Post by: brough74 on March 14, 2014, 07:38:31 pm
Does anyone know any common faults with this ?

I keep getting the light on the dash on odd occassions, the brake pads are fine so it must be the wiring.

Initial investigation i think its the NSF wiring but not on the pads.

Any ideas please ? I will be looking into this problem in the next few weeks

When mine came on I went to change the pads and the wiring had completely snapped. Luckily the pads were in need of a change anyway. I think you can put the two wires together to complete the circuit and the light will go out. IIRC the wires are only on the NSF as well.

Hope this helps  :happy2:

If the fluid level is where it should be the likely cause is a damaged wear sensor lead. Can be coded out

As above,
This light came on, on my 58reg polo. The brake pads were fine but the wear indicating wire had broken, I tied the two wires together to complete the circuit, light went out, no need to change my pads until they were worn  :happy2:

I had the same, like they say the wire had broken/rubbed away and caused a short

The fluid is ok as ive only just changed it.

So the issue will probably be the wire then, many thanks guys i will sort this out next weekend when im not working. By either shorting or coding out.

(did not realise it was only on the NSF)
