Title: Exhaust has anybody fitted
Post by: Scooby mic on March 15, 2014, 05:17:24 pm
Hi all
Looking at exhausts and I like a sound of a exhaust I've seen on line
My question is anybody fitted it?
It's sounds immence IMHO but that's just me
But also how does it preform
How well is it made etc etc
It's same exhaust as on my bike
Akropovic exhaust it's on a mk6 gti so prosume it'll fit mk5 with slight bod mods

Akrapovic are very very expensive.

What are you talking about?

From the picture
The exhaust has that terrible flexi braided part ?
That's mainly seen on ebay cheap crap
Why is this on a top looking exhaust
No flex should be needed if car spasific .

Post by: Scooby mic on March 16, 2014, 03:34:34 pm
Well after looking about
They've all got them :0
Never seen these before on high end exhausts just the Chinese stuff
Well live and learn ;)

What a load on nonsense. The flexible is there so that the movement of the engine isn't transmitted down the full length of the exhaust.

Nonsense eh lol
Well I'm learning loads about golfs
As in the scooby Evo world any exhaust with braid on it got laughed out the garage pal.
As it always corrodes and is a weak spot.
But maybe the braid is better quality.
And my solid exhaust worked fine on my old car
Is the oe exhaust braided too?
Maybe just as different car etc ie engine moves about a lot ?
Just curious as why

Vw ain't scoobs.

You can't transfer a lot of the tuning styles over.

Two different beasts.

Post by: Scooby mic on March 16, 2014, 04:23:43 pm
I know
But I'm trying to learn ,quick.
As I'm doing my car ASAP
I'll just dei wrap and wire it.
Hopefully protect it a bit .
As they all have them.
Title: Re: Exhaust has anybody fitted
Post by: greygti on March 16, 2014, 04:25:23 pm
Ok I can see both sides of this, the reason mkv gtis have a flexi in the downpipe is because of the way the engine spins/rotates when running and under load it moves back and forth on and off throttle thus requiring a flexi in the downpipe to stop excessive exhaust movement

The Scooby engine spins/rotates and moves in a complete different manner whilst driving and under load due to its flat 4 configuration hence why aftermarket exhaust manufactures don't need to include a flexi joint into the system

Title: Re: Exhaust has anybody fitted
Post by: greygti on March 16, 2014, 04:31:50 pm
Don't DEI wrap the flexi joint either mate ,if its a good quality downpipe it'll be made of stainless any way and wont corrode in any way shape or form

Thanks for the information and great replies guys
A day without learning something's a day waisted

This is a cheap ebay flexi...

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fthumbs2.ebaystatic.com%2Fd%2Fl225%2Fm%2FmdC_017zPgaFI2BNLVytlew.jpg&hash=47e9fc3686b0e4864f69ee9c79d6b6f5dd9708ee)

Because it isnt lined, over time the inside contracts and reduces in internal diameter of the flexi..... = BAD

This is a good flexi...

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tegiwaimports.com%2Fimages%2Fa%2Fexhaust-manifold-header-2-5-63mm-flexi-pipe-joint-3698-1l.jpg&hash=034b1deb78d6515e874a2904b7a48d33b42a482b)

You can see that it has a corrugated liner.. which wont contract..... =GOOD

Why bother and why not go with a system that's been tried and tested on a Mk5 Golf like all the systems that have been mentioned?

I know you can just used Hayward and Scott many times also had a quote from btb exhausts of 3500 plus vat.
Never liked miltek after previous exhausts with build problems on 2 cars .
Love the power valve exhaust the other company do
But I like to do things slightly different
Weather Ivan be bothered to leave car is another question
But if we didn't ask questions or query things wed never progress
No offence is ment to anyone during the making of this tread
If I could edit I would
