Just so I have this straight as your post is a little difficult to understand. The passenger courtesy light, so the "map reading light" doesn't work when the passenger door is opened. Does it work when you manually turn it on using the rocker switch, if it doesn't it will either be a dead bulb or the connectors are broken either way it should be a easy and relevievly cheap fix.
If you do need to replace the whole assembly, check out ebay as they can be bought for £20-£30. Maybe less

I think he minds the one behind the sun visor

In tat case I would be tempted to check the bulb first before removing trim.
Might even be worth getting the car scanned as it might shed some light.

My bad i should of choose my words wisely i ment footwell light on passenger side....the unit is there cant see or feel a wire to connect is it worth removing yhe glove box or will there not always be a connector for passenger footwell?

You said you took the unit out. It should have a press fit wiring connector so you can disconnect the unit. If all is present, disconnect it, remove the metal cover and replace the bulb.
