Title: Facelift
Post by: wodder42 on May 05, 2014, 11:01:03 am
Hi all...
Just a quick intro to me and the car...bought myself a golf 140 in grey, 5 door (more door) as I have a liitle person.
Hope to do some simple mods to begin with, while the bank account recovers.

Previously had a Lupo SDI and then sold that for a Polo 1.9tdi mapped to 132, lowered on coilies and running a decat with single silencer.

After getting to 163k miles and the arrival of my little girl, decided to go for a golf.  Sourced a 1 owner with FVW service history...hopefully be a good base.

Looking at popping a GTI front on....got this little lot for 60 sheets....

Trying to decide on springs...leaning towards H&R as opposed to Eibach sportlines...have to consider the child lol

Welcome and you got a bargain on the bumper! I've done the same on my TDI, I have removed GTI badges as it's a diesel and I've also colour coded the GTI strip to the colour of my car!
Have a look I think it looks cool! (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Ft427%2Fj12spk%2F45ea920a8d6a01426e20944e89e3d09c.jpg&hash=7b5cd5f887ead20914f6a7503032bd2b32282fae)

Jeez thats cheap for the bumper! Look forward to seeing it on - I have a similar standard grey golf currently getting a makeover - but my bumper cost a fair bit more  :scared:

Hi, thanks for the warm welcome!!! I will be removing the GTI badge, as.. .like you say, its a diesel
Ive considered colour coding the stripe, or just going black gloss.

I have just waxed it for now, should be sufficient for  the summer, was fine on the Polo, will probably get some nano glass sealant at some point though.  I was worried about removing the wiper arm, as on the polo it was stuck fast...but I just loosened the nut, popped on my ball joint splitter and it came off really easily

So the power steering symbol didnt go...turns out my ABS pump was screwed, along with some wiring.  So the car spent 2 weeks in the garage and cost lots of pennies...but its fixed now.

Did an epic 5 hr round trip to pick up a fully smoothed GTI front bumper...bump strips and splitter smoothed in.  Needs a bit of tlc before fitting though, so in no hurry to get this fitted.

I will just leave this here

sticking with a normal bumper for now...as the smoothed one requires some work and I have too much on at the mo to sort it.  Thanks for the kind comments though.

Passed the MOT no issues so got the H&R sports springs fitted.  Still settling but happy with the drop considering its still got to be a practical daily.  The ride is great, not bouncy but gets rid of the god awful body roll when cornering enthusiastically!

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMobile_Uploads%2F2015-02%2FIMG_20150220_221212_zpsefqah3fp.jpg&hash=339a4e168d5163d23b9c01f9ce39ad37f9d059e6)
So I braved the wind and sleet, froze my tits off but fitted my ed30 seats.  Goes with my steering wheel, just got to sought the gaitors out and the arm rest...dont know what to do about the door cards though

Great new mods! Those seats look mint.

Like many said already your Golf has the best colour!

I chose mine because it hides better the dust accumulated. :innocent:

Is it an easy swap mate? Would it be easy for someone with not a lot of experience to do.

Had to cut away some...line the bumper up and its possible to see what needs cutting.  Then fit, remove, trim, fit, remove, trim until it sits well
