Hi all...
Just a quick intro to me and the car...bought myself a golf 140 in grey, 5 door (more door) as I have a liitle person.
Hope to do some simple mods to begin with, while the bank account recovers.
Previously had a Lupo SDI and then sold that for a Polo 1.9tdi mapped to 132, lowered on coilies and running a decat with single silencer.

After getting to 163k miles and the arrival of my little girl, decided to go for a golf. Sourced a 1 owner with FVW service history...hopefully be a good base.

Looking at popping a GTI front on....got this little lot for 60 sheets....

Trying to decide on springs...leaning towards H&R as opposed to Eibach sportlines...have to consider the child lol

Welcome to the forum :happy2: You got a great bargain for the Gti front end! Even if it is a rep. :surprised:
-
Welcome and you got a bargain on the bumper! I've done the same on my TDI, I have removed GTI badges as it's a diesel and I've also colour coded the GTI strip to the colour of my car!
Have a look I think it looks cool! (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Ft427%2Fj12spk%2F45ea920a8d6a01426e20944e89e3d09c.jpg&hash=7b5cd5f887ead20914f6a7503032bd2b32282fae)

welcome from another gttdi owner :happy2:
-
Nice start matey bargain that bumper :)

-
Jeez thats cheap for the bumper! Look forward to seeing it on - I have a similar standard grey golf currently getting a makeover - but my bumper cost a fair bit more :scared:

Hi, thanks for the warm welcome!!! I will be removing the GTI badge, as.. .like you say, its a diesel
Ive considered colour coding the stripe, or just going black gloss.
-
Welcome to the forum from another tdi GT 140 owner. That bumper was super cheap :happy2: what other plans you got for it?
-
Welcome! Nice to see another gt owner!
The bumper was the first thing that i changed on my car! best thing to change first in my opinion! :happy2:
-
Plans are as time and money allows...
H&R lowering springs
18" alloys...love helios
GTI/ED30 5 door interior, flat bottom wheel, gear knob etc

I want to dewiper mine but scared I'll pop the glass like me and a friend did on his Saxo a few years ago :booty: what have you treated the rear glass with to help with rain and muck as obviously visibility is virtually gone now during stormy whether
-
Love the de-wiper mod.
Looks so clean. Been considering it for years :innocent:

I have just waxed it for now, should be sufficient for the summer, was fine on the Polo, will probably get some nano glass sealant at some point though. I was worried about removing the wiper arm, as on the polo it was stuck fast...but I just loosened the nut, popped on my ball joint splitter and it came off really easily

Love the glass wiper blank...would recommend it :happy2:

Every time I see one of these glass dewipered mods it makes me want to do mine more and more. Where'd you get the glass blank/grommet from?
Oh and car looks nice by the way. Nice mods. :happy2:

Cheers...not bad to start with, got some things in the pipeline :happy2:
-
So the power steering symbol didnt go...turns out my ABS pump was screwed, along with some wiring. So the car spent 2 weeks in the garage and cost lots of pennies...but its fixed now.
Did an epic 5 hr round trip to pick up a fully smoothed GTI front bumper...bump strips and splitter smoothed in. Needs a bit of tlc before fitting though, so in no hurry to get this fitted.
I will just leave this here

-
Well I followed your advice and got the skirts smoothed and painted. Also aquired an original vw gti bumper so got that sprayed too. The GTI splitter centre is gloss black to match my theme.
Can't wait to get it fitted but going to wait until the weather improves

Very good man  .. Ive honey comb but considering swapping over... quiet lied the look of georges.. love the boot badge...might try something like that myself soon
-
Looking good! Defiantly a good shout to get the skirts painted!
Need lows & update with some pics i feel! :happy2:
-
Liking the new bits especially the smoothed bumper. Something that I've wanted to do to mine for ages. I need to get an ed30 splitter first.
-
Nice looking motor! How easy was it to fit a GTI shifter?

thanks! It was really easy, just be careful not scratch the ashtray surround when removing

sticking with a normal bumper for now...as the smoothed one requires some work and I have too much on at the mo to sort it. Thanks for the kind comments though.

Thanks! ☺ I agree it was deffo a good shout to get skirts colour coded and smoothed. Cant complain for £160 to do them and the bumper!
Will post pics when all fitted up...soon as the weather improves. MOT soon and then will chuck the H&R sports springs on
-
Looks great! Got a grey Match, this is giving me a few ideas :happy2:
-

The best colour!!! Plenty of things you can do ☺
-
Passed the MOT no issues so got the H&R sports springs fitted. Still settling but happy with the drop considering its still got to be a practical daily. The ride is great, not bouncy but gets rid of the god awful body roll when cornering enthusiastically!
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMobile_Uploads%2F2015-02%2FIMG_20150220_221212_zpsefqah3fp.jpg&hash=339a4e168d5163d23b9c01f9ce39ad37f9d059e6)
So I braved the wind and sleet, froze my tits off but fitted my ed30 seats. Goes with my steering wheel, just got to sought the gaitors out and the arm rest...dont know what to do about the door cards though

Is it an easy swap mate? Would it be easy for someone with not a lot of experience to do.
