Title: Tuning info for newbie gti
Post by: Luke s on May 12, 2014, 08:19:03 pm
Hi I'm after some advice regarding gti tuning Im new to mk5s had other vws mostly g40s though so different ball game

I'm wanting to go for a remap but to make sure that I'm taking the car with full potential rather than getting it mapped and then getting told ahh you should have done this should have done that

I'm totally standard at the moment and I'm looking at stage 1 which I believe is around 240-260 depending on each car am I correct?im not sure on torque figures but am I correct in thinking just under 300?

Right my question is,is there any hardware upgrades that I could do that would maximise the remap and essentially stop me from having to have it mapped again once I've realised I should have done something else 1st

I've just done pcv and diverter valve had those done while apart for rattling timing chain along with fuel pump follower so there a couple of bits I don't need to worry about

Any help greatly received and sorry I have used the search but difficult to no what keywords to use
Cheers
Luke

Your power figures will depend on your modifications & the tuner, get yourself a decent intake ITG/Revo/Forge/Evoms, Milltek/APR/BCS turbo back exhaust system & Airtec/Forge/THS intercooler for starters.

If your after cheap gains, a panel filter and removing the pre-cat would set you back less than £100 all in all (less if you do the pre-cat yourself).

Or go for all out performance as Wooosh suggested above.

Depending on condition, fuel quality, tuner etc. . you should make around 245-250bhp on a car with the mods ive suggested above. I got 248bhp and 311lb/ft of torque from R-Tech on my old GTI, although since then Niki has improved his mapping techniques so the tiv mapping may see you a couple more HP

As I thought well tbh seams that exhaust intake and intercooler aren't worth it for possible gains if bought new those parts are like 2k so looks like I'll be sticking to a basic stage1 remap

Thanks for your help guys much appreciated I knew I should have bought an ed30 haha
Cheers

Just get the R-Tech map and spend money on brakes and suspension , no point having the extra power without a front brake upgrade and decent shocks/springs, stiffer ARB's  :happy2:

+2,get a r-tech remap & some handling mods & also don't forget to sort the brakes out too

What do you guys recommend for brake upgrades preferably something that's easy to source and pretty much straight fit as I'm not wanting to modify the appearance of the car it's supposed to be a sensible car (honest)

Suspension is difficult I don't want a harsh low ride I need the rear seats and boot to be useful live had so many cars that's are really only 2 seaters that it got old so any upgrades would have to leave me with a useable car that's still comfortable for myself and passengers but like I said I'm new to these so any opinions on suspension will greatly recieved

I was looking at r tech anyway just from what I've read seams they really no there stuff

Thanks
Luke

On Facebook. His website is a bit carp tbh

He did a stage 1, with great figures.

Pretty sure one of the R owners on this forum is going to him for big turbo map

As it's a TFSI all his unique mapping techniques work on the R

I'm going to him for a big turbo map but booking it via Aks as Alex is doing all the work & taking the car there for mapping..

Audi s3/r32 front brake set up is good mate, I've ran them since December and I'm at stage 2 now with no issues. They can be bought on here / eBay for less than £400 for the full set up but you will need to buy new brake lines though. Again these are cheap at around £35-40ish direct from HEL. Decent fluid and you'll be sorted  :driver:
